We stayed for one night in May, at the time of booking I didn’t realise it's up at almost 1000m above sea level. When we were there snow still covered half the land and the lakes were frozen. The communal areas of the hotel were fantastic, far better than the outside of the building had me think, full of character and charm. There is a room dedicated to photos of the building, over the last 100+ years as it's been owned by the same family. The rooms weren’t as great, perfectly clean and acceptable but a bit dated for me, but that could be Norwegian decor, saying that I would stay there again tomorrow. Great buffet breakfast, lots of choice.
One think to bear in mind, it's in the middle of nowhere. Geiranger Fjord is 30 minutes away, this must one of the most visited tiny towns in Norway, tens of thousands visit it every year. I would stay at this hotel and drive to Geiranger as the prices there must rocket up, also the drive there is amazing.

Stayed for one night with my son on our way to a family reunion in Geiranger. I had booked a small double room at a (for Norway) low rate, but was given a large room with a separate sitting area and great view, without asking and at no extra cost. Allthough there were only a few guests we were served a very tasty three course dinner and a lovely full breakfast buffet with lots of local food. Both the staff and owners were very pleasant and made us feel most welcome.
The room was not top standard (especially the bathroom), but the cleanliness very comfortable bed made up for that.
Will absolutely be back.

Grotli is a wonderful place to visit! The public area is delight and a 100 year of history you can feel and see! Our room was large, clean and a place that not only was perfect to sleep in, but also to charge the "batteries" by resuming this day activities and planning the next days happenings. The food, the decorations, the history/stories in the walls are perfect. We have stayed here for 5 days and are very pleased. Give it a try, we fully recommend Grotli!

What a wonderful place to stay! The entire complex is very large and each public room a delight to see. Our room was larger than expected and we were very pleased. We even had a sitting area that looked out on the fjords nearby. The staff was very helpful. This is definitely the Norwegian experience. We stayed 3 nights and sadly only discovered the cafe the last day. We went in thinking we would just grab a snack and were delighted to find a buffet. We chose waffles and the worker kindly offered to make us fresh ones even though 2 were sitting out already. They were heavenly!

Here one can really enjoy a traditional norwegian atmosphere. I didnt overnight but went to have dinner and drinks at the restaurant there. The decoration of the food was a bit better than the food itself, but one doesnt expect much by scandinavian cuisine right! Magical living room, full of tradition. Would recommend it.also the way from stryn to grotli is spectacular.
