“Fun Experience with the Maple Industry in QC!”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

We visited the Erabliere Chemin du Roy as a special group, where we were treated to an excellent time! Great food, entertainment and an invitation to interact. They brought out a basket of 'musical spoons' and the fiddler taught us some basic rhythms to play. He then fiddled and we all clacked away -- it was a blast!

We also learned about the industry itself, which is fascinating. We learned that Québec produces over 85 percent of the world's maple syrup, which equals 93 percent of the Canadian production. (Source: Québec Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food). I had no idea it was the prevalent in QC with many more producers than I would have guessed.

If you've never done the 'maple taffy' on the snow, I think it's one of those simplely must-do Canadian-experience. The location was very convenient from Quebec City.

“Maple memories forever etched”
Reviewed 15 May 2012

Sugar Shack - Érablière le Chemin du Roy
This antique style establishment is located near the Saint Lawrence River and takes its name from the ancestral road that runs through it. Approximately 14.8 km’s – 15 minutes from Hotel Universel - Quebec City.

It was early-April when we visited this homestead-style Sugar Shack as an optional night tour run by ATI MotorCoach Tours at $42.00USD... It is cheaper if you do it yourself. And although spring had arrived early this year to see the actual syrup from the tree; we were not disappointed as the grove glistened with a light blanket of snow under moonlight. This sufficed for those of us from the tropics... The contrast from Palm trees to Maple Grove was enchanting.

Upon welcome in the Grove your Hostess narrates a short history about the traditional process of making Maple Syrup inside the Sugar Shack. You will notice that this is by no means a high brow establishment, but a pure rustic authentic building museum with old-fashion tennis racket skis as I call them etc.

The traditional Quebec 'camp meal' (Maple Syrup flavoured cuisine) was plentiful. As you can always request more for the table after the initial spread is arranged. All of this was set to the tune of traditional folk music entertainment, puppetry and, later audience participation in dance.

Here you can order and try a Maple Syrup flavour beer from the bar and if you forgot to purchase anything cheaper through Customs there’s a gift shop where Maple products are sold, ready to take your USD and or Canadian Dollars.

The evening ends outside with Maple taffy on snow to leave you with a memory forever etched in your heart and travel. Especially since I forgot my camera!

We hope our review has been of help and assistance…

P.S. If you’re opposed to having a Tour and Lunch/Dinner (2-3 hours), there is NO Fee that I am aware of to enter this property for a quick visit (<1 hour).
