I spent three nights in the hotel in May, and had dinner there twice. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and people and friendly, despite their English level is poor. I had to make myself understandable by speaking a sort of "Portalian" but in the end things were quite reasonable.
Food is tasty and the wine carte acceptable.
Quite nice place ideal to spent a couple of relaxing days, whether you want to enjoy the thermal baths or not.

The road from Montecchio (Alte) just off the A1 autostrada leads you through a semi rural / industrial / commercial / residential area until some 40 kilometres along you enter into a beautiful town of Recoaro Terme.

The stunning small dolomites encompass your 360 view and rise as majestic peaks above the towns especially beautiful in winter encapsulated in snow.

Summer allows for beautiful walks within these pristine mountains whether looking for mushrooms or chestnuts; with cheese, prosciutto, bread and a bottle of red wine what more could one ask for.

Entering Recoaro you pass the famous Aqua Recoaro factory with its export of mineral water all over the world; as you drive along the main street past the church and its campanile, slow down as the entry to the hotel is a small archway on your right just before a fork in the road.

Once through you will see the Trettenero at the end and parking is only for a quick drop off of luggage as there is a car park within the hotel grounds at the rear; the staff will indicate how to get there.

The Trettenero is a family run business with Brigida, Marta, Paolo and the celebrated chef Giorgio (ask him to show you how he makes “gnocchi con la fioretta”!) (He is also a mad All Blacks Supporter)

The building itself has been a hotel since the early 19th Century but flourished with the Cornale family’s purchase and beautiful refurbishment to bring the building into the 21st Century but still maintain its 19th Century charm.

Arriving one mid spring afternoon from Verbania on Lago Maggiore, we were greeted warmly and shown to our recently renovated 1st floor room with its beautiful charm and modern ensuite bathroom.

Opening the corner windows your breath is almost taken away with the majestic view of the mountains resplendent in a golden glow of afternoon sun.

The pine trees that grow on the sharp incline towards the scraggy rock faces provide a wonderful contrast and if only a balcony, what a wonderful way to spend an afternoon with a glass of Amarone di Valpolicella.

The best views of the hotel and the surrounding mountains are from the rear of the building in its beautiful courtyard.

Have a wander around and do not forget to look at the main dining room with its Gothic type architecture, beautiful high ceilings and if I recall fresco’s.

A walk up the ramp towards the car park you will find a beautiful old Japanese maple and a tall pine tree under which, at this time of the year, you will normally find Brigida resplendent in shorts and tee shirt sporting an amazing figure and tan, planting some 1500 seedlings which not too far in the distant future will provide a mass of wondrous colour.

The hotel during its main tourist season serves 3 meals a day however there are many restaurants that are within a few minutes’ walk which add a diversity of cuisines.
The town itself has many small boutique shops with an abundance of bars and cafe’s; if you are there on a Thursday the main street and piazza are taken over by the markets; an amazing array of fruit, vegetables, meats, cheeses and virtually everything from the kitchen sink to clothing and shoes.

Our stay of 11 nights was wonderfully relaxing, the service was 1st class and the breakfasts sufficient, with dinners “by Giorgio” a wonderful culinary experience necessitating lengthy walks in the mountains each day to ensure that we would not be penalised for additional “baggage” on our long flight from Milan to Australia.

It is not the 1st time we have stayed here nor will it be the last; we know that all is subjective but for my wife and me a wonderful place to stay with wonderful hosts.

Well done “Trettenero Gang”

Cristiano.
