“Take your appetite with you, to enjoy Marian's delectable culinary masterpieces.”
Reviewed 4 March 2010

Old Joe's is as hospitable as ever. In fact I think it has evolved into the most personal and intimate of venues for a stop-over or weekend destination.

The service is attentive yet not intrusive. The ambiance is relaxing and comfortable.

The culinary masterpieces that come from Marian's kitchen, always have a unique mouthwatering appeal.

My partner has been driving past Old Joe's for years now and I booked us in as a treat and way of breaking up journey to Jo'burg from Maputo. We booked the log cabins, ours was nestled back and view from bedroom gave impression of being in the treetops.
Dandering around the gardens some outbuildings seemed neglected as did pond, greenhouse and pool, but latter being renovated at present. We took a pleasant walk by the river prior to dinner. Welcome from hosts excellent, not intrusive and dinner utter joy to tastebuds (organic produce on each dish) and superb, well-chosen wine list. I loved the homely decor in the main building, tunes as we ate, abundance of magazines and books to peruse and will go again. soon. The hosts are most welcoming and service superb. P.S. breakfast on the terrace is equally good and I recommend a walk beforehand.

Dear travel diary,

my sister and I stayed at Old Joe's Kaia for one night. A friend of mine had recommended the accommodation to me before I booked it. Afterwards, I can tell you, we regreted that we did not stay longer at "our green paradis", because you have a lot of opportunities to be active or just relax in the peaceful garden or at the swimming pool.

After the flight we just were tired and we were looking forward to a relaxed stay before we were going the next day to the Krueger Nationalpark. All our expectation came true even more!

I would like to highlight following points:
- advertent and helpful personnel (from carrying our luggages until helping with our queries)
- very good and varied meals (!)
- nice surrounding, such as wonderful wooden houses where you sleep, swimming pool, well-kept garden and houses
- enjoyable mood

To sum up, Old Joe's Kaia is a nice place even if you just would like to relax. Furthermore, the place is close to the Krueger Nationalpark and on direct way from the International Airport Johannesburg.

Best wishes and have fun!
Axel (from Germany)

The fact that this was my fourth visit to Old Joe's Kaia, says it all! From the moment you enter the gates, you feel at home. The atmosphere is just something one has to experience, it is calm and peaceful, away from the daily hustle and bustle and tranquility is written on every leaf in the garden. Although this can be used as a base for touring Mpumalanga, one tends to stay just there at Old Joe's Kaia to experience a world of peace and relaxation. Every meal is an occasion, with cuisine that you will only find in top restaurants in the big cities! I can certainly recommend this venue to any prospective traveller to Mpumalanga!

Had just the one night on our way to the Sabi Sands. After heavy rain and a thunderstorm during the late afternoon which cut all the electricity for the duration of our stay we had a delightful candlelit evening meal and a full cooked breakfast in the morning.

Everyone was very friendly and helpful and Old Joe's is in a lovely setting close to the Crocodile river.Would have liked longer to explore the area.

If you're a food lover....this is the place.
If you love your wine with a view and bird songs in the backround...this is it.
If you want a halfway house for sightseeing the lowveld (Graskop, Sabie, Pelgrims etc) or just a overnight break from traveling between Gauteng and the Kruger Park...stop here.
The hospitality is genuine...cause they love what they do.
We have returned many times, with the same service and standards, noticing the ongoiing upgrading of facilities and service.
Hence our return...

This was a birding week-end, where the hotel invited Dr. Steven Evans to do 3 presentations and take guided birding walks. Food, service, presentations and guided walks were out of this world, setting absolutely amazing.
