“Really excellent”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

This was a really excellent stay. Right from the first moment when we drove in and the owner waved and smiled I knew it was going to be ok !
We parked at the front but did have a bit of trouble locating the front door. we tried to go in the patio doors ! This lovely building that Queen Victoria stayed in maybe needs a more imposing front door, or big brass sign to say ''Door'' !
The inside was lovely, so Scottish all tartans and heather and just as you would expect an ex Victorian hunting lodge to be. We loved the feel of it, and that was in July so it must be really cosy and snug in winter.
The owner was very friendly and very helpful. We had a lovely room, but as it had twin beds I asked if he had a double room. He was very happy to show us two other rooms and give us the choice of any of them. He was so attentive nothing seemed too much trouble.
The view was really stunning, and it did help that there was a huge rainbow permanently over the loch.
Breakfast was very good. No complaints , only that the poor little waitress was doing it all by herself, and the dining room was full and with people waiting. I think they need two people on. She was so nice and cheerful and chatty I could almost have jumped up and given her a hand.
This was a very good stay, lovely room, no complaints at all. OH and there great wifi in our bedroom. A really good signal. Icing on the cake !

Room Tip: Ask for a room with views over the loch, it is stunning.

We stayed in the log cabin last week. What a peaceful and restful visit we had. Cabin was comfortable and the management were really nice and helpful. Bed was very comfy too. Kitchen was well equipped with everything you could need. Had some lovely walks round the loch which our wee dog thoroughly enjoyed. Don't miss the Victoria Falls. Quite spectacular and unexpected! Enjoyed the views and just chilling out - watching the fantastic huge TV. We will be back.

Just back from 3 night stay at Loch Maree Hotel.
Stunning location, good breakfast, very clean room and very welcoming and helpful staff.
Really couldn't have asked for more.
Have stayed in the west coast many a time but this has to be one of our favourites.
The added bonus this year was we stayed on the hottest days of the year so far 29 degrees (yes I did say 29 degrees)
Only downside was the midges which made drinking outside impossible but hey you can't have everything.
If you have the chance book this hotel it's well worth it.

Great to see Hotel done up. I was amazed at the Victorian Dining room,. But more the story of Isle-Maree. Twice I got engaged on the Isle, the boat across to the Isle is fantastic. The Pub was really well used, a travellers pub. So romantic. The Hotel it self 2003,4, 7 and 9 was great. It is the 3rd most romantic setting in Scotland. I stopped in cottage before it got refurbished. But that was the romance about the place, I had my two GSDs a white and black and tan, Kori nicked spuds out of the shed, deer often trundle by the cottage. The views are spectacular, your photos do not do the place justice. I thought it was a bolt hole a treasure up west, we skinny dipped off Isle mare on 3 occasions. My House is called Isle-Maree, say no more, Kinloch ewe is just down the road, The famous Victoria falls 5 minutes away, the stoney beach by the loch just 10 minute drive. Its awesome.

Room Tip: Use the Guliies cottage, do Isle Maree, hire a rowing boat, but be careful there is the legend of Is...

Fantastic Hotel with lovely friendly proprietors and staff. The food was superb and on our first night we both had the venison steak served on a bed of black pudding, it was the nicest venison we have ever tasted and all butchered and cooked by Raymond, the owner. The evening meals throughout the rest of our stay were equally good as were the full Scottish Breakfasts!! All the staff went out of their way to chat and make you feel most welcome. We stayed in a four poster double bedroom which had magnificent views of Loch Maree, we were lucky to see the most gorgeous sunrise over the loch during our stay. The room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable, each day we returned to a room as if we had just checked-in!! We were also privileged to enjoy a boat trip out to Isle Maree in the owners boat and Raymond kept us safe by ensuring we wore lifejackets and he entertained and showed us all the highlights on the Isle from the Druids Circle and Viking graves to the Money Tree and Viking tree carving together with the history and legends of the Isle. The weather was outstanding which made seeing this beautiful area of Scotland even more enjoyable. We both can't thank Raymond and Caroline enough together with the friendly staff for providing us with such an outstanding time at the hotel, just wish we had been there at the same time as Billy Conolly!! We will definitely return and have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful, good value for money Hotel.

This hotel is right on Loch Maree and has amazing views. There is nothing here but the hotel.

The room was comfortable and ideal for one night. There is a really friendly atmosphere in the hotel and a few regulars that come for the fishing.

The food was very good and local with a few interesting things on the menu.

This Hotel is along the West Coast route and has some excellent views to get here.

Ideal for somewhere quiet and away from it all.

My partner, daughter and I were fortunate enough to be the first guests to stay in the newly restored and renovated Ghillies' cottage, situated near the hotel with a fabulous view of Scotland's most beautiful loch. The cottage is very well appointed, with any instrument or appliance you could possibly need, all brand new, but if you did somehow want for anything, then Caroline and Raymond would do their best to accommodate. Upon our arrival after a considerable but stunningly scenic drive, we were afforded a very warm welcome, with the log fire burning, some fresh scones and a chilled bottle of wine - felt like royalty! We had a cot and high chair laid out for our six month old daughter, and the cottage even surpassed the attractive photos we'd seen before booking. Beds were very comfortable and waking up to a view like that certainly blows the cobwebs away! The hotel bar is excellent and the atmosphere among the guests always seemed very friendly and jovial whenever we popped in. Loch Maree and the whole surrounding area took our breath away - nearby Gairloch has an abundance of boat trips, shops and cafes and a peaceful beach, and if you fancy a bit of a drive then Applecross is also highly recommended. However, there are such fabulous walks and views within a few minutes of the hotel that you may well find you just wish to stay put! For those who enjoy a spot of fishing, you may well be in for a treat - have a word with Raymond who owns the fishing rights to the loch and he'll advise you - I was fortunate enough to spend some time on the loch and it was a very memorable experience. Magical place, just the tonic to get away from it all, can't recommend the cottage, hotel and hospitality highly enough, we'll definitely be back. Thanks again Raymond and Caroline, fantastic hosts.

Room Tip: Both rooms in Ghillies' Cottage are comfortable and newly refurbished.
