Muckle Roe Chapel is quite possibly the best holiday cottage in the whole of Shetland. Excellent facilities and amenities are available a short drive away at Brae. Easy driving to Lerwick or for ferries to the north islands makes Muckle Roe the perfect location to get the best out of your stay. Views from the Chapel are unrivalled and, with all the comforts of home at your disposal, you could hardly choose better for a relaxing and restoring holiday. The attention to detail is second to none: just when you think it can’t get any better and you’re struggling to get into your walking boots, you spot the wall-mounted shoe horn, right beside you. How cool is that? There is no doubt that respect and admiration must go to the owners, for their dedication and determination in restoring this spectacularly unique place.
We stayed a week in this wonderful cottage. Everything was perfect, the view is marvellous, you can stay hours in the rocking chair just watching the colours changing. The cottage is really high level and fully equiped. 3 comfortable bedrooms, one with ensuite bathroom (shower) and a Bathroom with bath. Very large fully equiped kitchen, nice sofa's, great outdoor terrace and table, and the mezzanine is a great place for the kids to chill!
The owner is very kind and available, all our questions had fast answers before and during our stay. Prices asked for a week are really fair for such a quality, so excellent value for money !!!
Very easy access with 30 min driving form Lerwick (shops & Tesco store) and 5 min from Brae where there's a Co-op Supermarket and some restaurants. Muckle Roe is ideally situated to visit the whole archipel: the South Sumburgh or the North Unst can be reached in no time.
We had the most beautiful holidays of our lives and we definitely recommend the Muckle Roe Chapel to anyone.
We stayed 2 weeks at Muckle Roe Chapel. Just genius! Very good contact with owner Bogi, who has very professional instructions to the house ready. Great service. Thank you. Very nice converted chapel, very good location. Only a few minutes to Brae with supermarket and 2 restaurants. Beautiful view. Pure relaxation. Just to be recommended! Well located for excursions in all directions ,. Unfortunately, the weather was not great, so we enjoyed the chapel. Thanks Bogi for your helps.
Muckle Roe is perfect for getting to many places on Shetland and the chapel is one of the best holiday rentals I've ever had. The kitchen was particularly well appointed and care had obviously been taken in the design of the accommodation. On top of that we had wonderful weather!
It's difficult not to run out of superlatives when reviewing "The Chapel" on Muckle Row and all I can do is add my thanks to Bogi for providing such wonderful accommodation and my wife for booking it for my big "0" birthday.
Muckle Roe was a perfect spot for a family retreat at the start of the year, after a hectic Christmas and new year.
The Chapel was spacious enough for us and our 3 teenage boys, but very cosy and homely too. We stayed "home" quite a lot, as one boy has exams coming up and needed to study, but it was never a hardship, as the rest of us could play board games at the table, read by the fire or head out for a walk.
We had a glorious walk round the Hams, starting from the door of the Chapel, a walk that took in a beach, cliffs, heather, frozen lochans and a lighthouse. A few friends thought we were brave to travel to Shetland in January, but we had some beautiful, bright, clear weather. When it was a bit wild and rainy one afternoon, it was wonderful to sit by the fire and watch the ever-changing sky and water just outside the windows.
I would add that the ferry trips from Aberdeen to Lerwick and back were very quiet and comfortable and a great way to start and end our short break.
The trip to Shetland had been in the pipeline for a few years, postponed for various reasons, but although I had looked for accommodation, there had never been anything that really grabbed me. Once it became a more definate plan in 2016, I set about to find somewhere to stay, and within ten minuted stumbled accross the chapel. It was love at first sight. It had me at the picture of the view from the dining table and then I saw the rest of the photos and was hooked. The whole trip was planned over 6 months ahead and I spent a lot of those dreaming about the trip to Sheltand and Orkney. This really helped me through a very trying and stressful winter at work. Arriving at the cottage was so exciting. but somewhere at the back of my mind was a slight doubt about whether is could live up to either the online pictures or the ones in my head. but absolutely nothing to worry about. Everything was as shown, but so, so much better. The chapel in beautiful. The furniture and fittings are of an excellent standard, but there is so much more to it. Both the inside and the gorgeous surroundings are so peaceful. This is the perfect place to get away from the stress of everyday life, while missing none of the comforts of home. The owners have put a lot of thought into fitting out the chapel - there is everything you need in the kitchen, including a welcome package (thanks!) lovely locally produced soaps and an amazing array of information. The location is excellent for exploring the islands as well as being downright spectacular. The views from the windows are ever-changing and the play of light on the water is a photographer's dream.
All in all, I find it difficult to put into words how much I loved being here, all I can say is go there, you will not regret it!
