“Taken at short notice”
Reviewed 30 September 2013

Called the Bistro at short notice (midweek) and was pleased to hear that they were very busy yet managed to give us a table for two.

Great food in a laid back setting, nice relaxed atmosphere and not in the least pretentious.

Thanks for a lovely meal.

“Fabulous High Tea”
Reviewed 29 September 2013

Another fabulous meal at MacMillans, Sunday High Tea is such a great deal. An enormous main course, bread, tea and then a cake stand full of scones, meringues, and lots of lovely chocolatie things. Top it off with BYOB, what's not to love ?

“Skills and hard work bring success!”
Reviewed 17 August 2013

It's now a year since David and Kellie took over the running of this bistro and coffee house. We live nearby and have often been in for coffees, ice creams and light lunches. We went for an evening meal last Saturday and were delighted. David is a very talented chef and Kellie seems to have inspired all the staff to be as warmly welcoming and efficient as she is herself. The recent emphasis on fish dishes has been welcomed; our sea bream was beautifully cooked and the accompaniments were excellent. The place appeals to locals and visitors alike: the people at the table next to us were from France; the people across the way were from Edinburgh. I have one minor gripe. The cheerful noise of people enjoying themselves can get a bit much. Any chance of softening the acoustics a bit?

“Simply excellent!”
Reviewed 11 August 2013

Stopped for coffee and cakes when out for a drive one Sunday. Cakes were fabulous and the coffee was really good too, all very good value for money. Waitress was lovely and I'd like to return to sample the evening menu. Recommended.

“Don't believe old reviews”
Reviewed 1 July 2013

Last week, the local FSB branch held its meeting here, a dozen of us - sandwiches, cakes, tea and coffee provided. Super! Home-made, all of it, and well worth a detour. I appreciated it so much that I am going back next week to sample the dinner menu with some friends, and I expect to be equally impressed, especially after our long and interesting discussions on the menu options with the very friendly and competent host and hostess (the owners). Martin R (see his review) must be very unlucky (who says venison cannot be rare?) but you can get the occasional upset anywhere, including at home. It's a family business, extra staff only come in when needed, so the personal touch is very much "owners hands on" at table and in the kitchen.
