“amazing amazing amazing!!”

OMG!! This place is incredible. The service was excellent and the room (Chiva Som) was like being on holiday the hot tub was amazing and the room was so clean we even had a nespresso coffee machine in the room. The manager was super helpful and was always on hand whenever we needed him. The food was super tasty and well worth the price in fact I probably would have paid more.
The breakfast was amazing and was delivered to our room we were even allowed to check out an hour later at no extra cost. I cannot recommend this place enough it was amazing and I'm definitely going back......

The Room
There are slippery mats on a tiled floor. I slid and my wife tripped on them. These are dangerous and someone could easily hurt themselves badly.
The menu in the room does not match the menu in the restaurant. After much studying and decisions made when we got to the restaurant we had to start again as they differed.

The Bathroom
This was in poor repair. There was enamel chipped off the bath, The shower head did not give an acceptable covering, the toilet seat was of very cheap plastic and kept slipping when seated on it and the toilet roll was of cheap quality.

Dinner
The prices of your wine are very expensive for the range they offer, however this is on the website so I can only offer the observation that: A lot of customers like a selection of wines in the £20 to £30 bracket; these are very limited and poorvalue.
We both ordered the Monkfish which we have had many times and enjoy immensely; however it was undercooked, being raw in the middle.
The “thrice cooked” chips were soggy and burned.
The choice of desert was poor, not a varied selection and once again did not match the menu in the room.

Service
This was mostly very attentive in fact too attentive. When the mains were finished my wifes plate was taken before she had swallowed her last mouthful.
My wife ordered a cheeseboard which was delivered quickly, however she sat there without a knife to eat it with for 10 minutes.
When we arrived we requested (from reception in person) an ice bucket. I had to go there again after 30 minutes to find that they had forgotten about it.

Checkout
On checking in “an authorisation” was taken on my card. I was told that this was not taken from the account as it was just an authorisation. At checkout I was told that you could not take the extra due as it was over 10% of the authorisation so you had to cancel the "authorisation and take the full amount. On returning home I found they had take both amounts leaving me unable to access the amount they took first for 5 days.
They should make this clear on checking in.

Positive points
My wife left a watch in the room and we were contacted to say it was there and you would post it if we wished and breakfast was very good.

Summary
This is a restraunt with a small number of rooms.
It tries to be something it is not - good.
It is very expensive for what you get.
I tried complaining but were told they would not do anything about it.
It seems customers are an inconvenience.

I recommend you give this place a miss. It looks good and trys, but fails miserabley. They just want your money.

We stayed in Cipriani, which was at the end of corridor. The room was lovely, everything you might need. There weren't many places to put your clothes, but as we were only staying for one night, it didn't matter to us. The room was warm and nicely decorated. Not the biggest room, but again, for one night it wasn't an issue.
The usual amenities were supplied, plenty of shower gels/shampoo's etc, but there were also cotton balls and cotton buds, which was a nice touch. There were ample towels and two giant fluffy bath robes. In the room there was a flat screen tv, DVD player (no dvd's supplied) a decent coffee machine, but also a kettle for tea. There were two jars of home made brownies and biscuits, again another nice touch.
We had a hut tub room, so there was a private outside courtyard. We were lucky enough to have stayed on a quiet night, so there was no one above us or next door.
If the hotel had been full, we would have felt that the gardens were a little close together.
Then hot tub was lovely, a real treat. It had a cover on, which stops bits getting in, but also stops the heat getting out! We sat under the stars in the hot tub, drinking champagne we'd brought from home and felt totally relaxed.....also feeling a million miles away from work!
We ate in the restaurant and it was delicious. You are a captive audience, as the hotel is fairly remote with not much near by....and the restaurant is pricey, but again simple extra touches made it feel worth while.
We were given a free amuse-bouche to start, which was soup in an espresso cup and home made bread, our starter and main course were lovely. We had a whole gurnard, which they filletted at our table for us. I'm not a massive fish fan, but all the food was lovely. The restaurant was reasonably busy with couples and groups, all enjoying their food and having a nice time. The service was attentive.
Back in the room we discovered no thermostate to turn down the heat and the radiators had covers, so we had to open the door for a while, again luckily there wasn't anyone next door.
The hot tubs hum over night, but nothing more than a fridge and it didn't bother either of us.
There weren't any spare plugs, so when i came to use the hairdryer i had to unplug a lamp to use it. Quite a common mistake with hotels. If we had wanted to plug in a laptop or charge our phones, we may have had to unplug the tv/dvd.
Breakfast was decent. When we arrived there was only one other couple in the restaurant and we were seated right next to them, so the atmosphere was a little hushed. The main breakfast is made to order, so everything is fresh. I had eggs benedict and my boyfriend had a full english. We were also given a basket of toast, croissants and pastries, all seemingly hand made. On offer were bowls of yoghurt, fresh fruit, cereals, banana bread and juices. There was so much food on offer that we could barely finish our order breakfasts!
Checking in and out was easy and fast. On check in, they did take a swipe of a card to cover the room and our meal later, but that was refunded when we checked out and then we payed for our room.
We would happily recommend The Crab to couples looking for a romantic break; it's pricey, but a nice treat!

I stayed here while on business in Newbury. It started off very well when I was upgraded to one of their hot tub rooms. Cold, wet night, so I didn't use, but would love to stay in one during the summer
I stayed in Bora Bora and very colourful it was. Huge, comfrortable bed. A nice touch is the Nespresso machine, free water, home made brownies and biscuits, unusual toiletteries, exceptionally fluffy towels. Evrything you need for a good night's sleep
I had room service. The restaurant is mainly fish - but excellent quality and a good choice of different types, including whole crab. Also good choice of wien by the glass.
Breakfast was very good - basket of decent toast (no supermarket bread here), croissant, fresh fruit, cereals and a wide choice of cooked - made to order. I hust had porridge and the best I have had in a hotel. They normally don't know how to make it!
This would be a great spot for a weekend break, so I will have to return

We stayed here to celebrate by other half's birthday and it was great. We stayed in Bora Bora room, which if you are adverse to pink is best avoided :) The room was clean and tidy, loads of tea and coffee, the nesspresso machine was an excellent touch.

The hot tub was fantastic, perfect temperature and a well placed sun shade meant it was private enough.

Dinner was great, you couldn't fault the service and the choice was good. It's not a cheap meal, but neither does it break the bank. And breakfast next day rounded off a great stay.

On the downside the bar is a tad over priced and I would imagine the road nearby could get a bit noisey, though we didn't have any problem with this.

Stayed here for birthday treat. Had seen other reviews so expected issues on service etc. Quite the opposite - very pleasant and friendly throughout.

There was an issue with the huge spa bath we had been given with the room as basically there was little hot water (6.00pm) and even that stopped completely after 5 mins - clearly a plumbing problem on site! Shower and basin worked fine so weird the spa bath did not.

We had booked meal and overnight stay for a Saturday evening and we arrived at same time as a rush of others because of a large party arriving at same time - so no pre meal drink as hoped.

Nice dining room, friendly staff, good wine list. Starters and desserts great - made wrong choice re main course as not much fish for the money - others plates looked better!

Breakfast on Sunday morning was very good - again contrary to reviews - great bacon and sausages, toast etc etc - could not fault it.

Overall was a nice break and if they could sort out plumbing would be great.

Would loved to have stayed there again, however only informed of the double booking fiasco 20 minutes away. Destroyed the budget at the fabulous Vineyard at Stockcross,. Very disappointed with the once fab Crab......
