We have just had a 4 night break at the Dunsterburgh Castle hotel and greatly enjoyed our visit. The hotel was comfortable and friendly. The food was excellent (although we did only have one dinner at the hotel as we wanted to visit some of the other pubs and eating places in the area). It was nice having the 2 lounges where we could sit, check e mails, play cards etc. the hotel was ideally positioned for visiting all the coastal attractions of the area. We went by boat to Lindisfarne, had a tr to the Farne Islands - the birds were amazing, and went to Alnwick gardens. We would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: We didn't have any sort of view from our room, but we did book at the last minute. We were woke...

We had a great long weekend here in May. This hotel is fantastically positioned for the wonderful beaches and attractions of Northumbria. It also has the benefit of over the road, but separate, cottage accomodation that can be self- catering and/or make use the full dining facilities of the hotel, including the excellent breakfasts to send you out for your day. Lunches/dinners also generous and well cooked and strongly favour local produce. Those cottages are very clean and have fireplaces if you need a cosy bolt-hole. They are well equipped and you could fend for yourself food-wise if you wished, but we prefer to mainly eat over the road in the hotel or occasionally pop out. The cottages are dog-friendly, which is great if you want a holiday for your pets too. Very friendly and helpful staff and we look forward to an early return......

The welcome was warm and the room was fairly big with a nice high ceiling.Very clean with a good sized bathroom.
The breakfast was very good with kippers on offer and the full English was superb.
Porridge available for starters with a good range of cereals and fruit. One bad thing, you got the impression that the loose cereal had been out all night,it was a bit stale.
Waiting staff very friendly and obliging..lots of tea and coffee on offer and endless piles of toast!
We slept very well indeed considering we were overlooking the road (which wasn't very busy at all)The bed was very spacious and comfortable.
There's a couple of good pubs walking distance away which was showing the football!

We stayed for six nights and found the hotel of good standard. The staff were attentive and helpful at all times. The breakfasts were good, the kippers being a firm favourite. We took the bar meals rather than eating in the hotel dining room in the evenings. There is a good choice of food and excellent fish. The helpings and cooking were just right for us.
The rooms were clean and well equipped. However, I would warn potential guests to avoid rooms at the back near the kitchen. Smells from the kitchen and noise until late (10-45pm on one night) rather spoilt an otherwise excellent stay.
One feature that cannot be faulted is the excellent location of the hotel, being well placed for walking or touring this picturesque area.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms over kitchen.

We stayed 2 nights dbb..staff were great..special mention of jimmy the waiter but everyone was friendly and worked really hard to keep the customer satisfied. ..room was large and spotlessly clean. Great menu and you could pay small upgrade for things on all a carte menu. Especially good fish dishes. Bar prices very reasonable. Would definitely return.

The food was excellent throughout our stay. Our room (suite 22) which was on two floors served us very well as it had its own entrance which saved us using the main hotel corridors. All the staff were very obliging. One minor issue - it would be nice to have wi-fi reception in the bedrooms rather than having to go to the coffee lounge.

We stayed in one of the Hotel's cottages, the Hayloft, with our dog. The accommodation was very good - immaculately clean, comfortable and fully-equipped and the lovely garden an added bonus. We had two breakfasts and two evening meals in the restaurant, all of which were of a high standard. The service was friendly and efficient. One suggestion: that the gate leading from the garden to the fairly busy main road be equipped with a more secure form of closure. Someone left if off the catch and our dog escaped onto the road.
