“What a Knight at the Castle”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

This place is in a beautiful part of Englandshire and a place you will never forget. The new Manager is an absolute card and the staff are first to get you everything to make your stay special. Their food is top notch and a very cosy bar to enjoy a light refreshment and a blether with some of the locals.
Rooms are very comfortable and reasonably priced and they have a football sized beer garden across the road to enjoy a relaxing afternoon with friends.
Give this place a spot in your diary, call and ask for George or if he is busy one of the team will look after you........................

This was our first visit to the Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel, a 45th Wedding Anniversary treat. We stayed for three nights.
The staff were very friendly, the room was clean and comfortable, the food( both dinner and breakfast) excellent and the wine reasonably priced.Definitely worth another visit!

Stayed for several days with another couple. It was a good point for various excursions in beautiful Northumberland. Rooms, clearly recently redone, were quiet and comfortable. Food - dinner and breakfast - was fine although the selection for those who did not choose a cooked breakfast was very limited. WiFi in the Coffee Lounge was welcome. The staff was helpful and friendly, with very special thanks going to Lucy for her care and good cheer.

Once again, we had a marvellous stay at the Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel. The name is a slight misnomer - it is not a castle - it is a traditional village Inn which was once part of the Dunstanburgh Castle estate. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful, the accommodation is comfortable and of high quality, and the food is excellent. The area is both beautiful and full of interesting places to visit, from Newcastle to the South up to Lindisfarne to the north, from the coastline, to Alnwick and other marvellous spots inland. Our last trip was helped by great weather which isn't always guaranteed of course. The hotel is very reasonably priced, but I wouldn't call it cheap - nor should it be for the quality on offer. As a family it is one of our favourite places.

My only fear is that DC will get so many good reviews on TrpAdvisor that it will be impossible to get a booking, but it hasn't happened yet, and it would be unfair not to give this hotel the recommendation it deserves on that account!

Room Tip: We have also stayed in the cottages in the past which are excellent and not an issue at all if you f...

We stayed at the Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel from 24th -29th July 2014 whilst attending a family wedding in nearby Rock. For our room, an 18th century stable / barn had been beautifully converted to a small suite with cathedral ceilings and loft bedroom. All amenities top notch. Staff energetic, courteous, helpful. A huge daily breakfast prepared us for long walks on the public footpaths, beach, and nearby castles. Weather was gorgeous. We miss it already!

Room Tip: we did not see the rooms in the hotel proper, but liked the 'out buildings' for the suites...

A very basic hotel. We stayed during warm weather & rooms were very small & hot with no air conditioning or fans available. No fridge in room either. In desperate need of upgrading on decor as very dated.
However, bed was comfy & room was very clean. Staff couldn't do enough for you - any request was met & everyone was friendly throughout the hotel.
Over-priced for what it is but as remote in location I imagine there's not much competition within vicinity!
Our stay was due to a wedding & was convenient for that but we wouldn't choose to return.

Dear HJH77

We would firstly like to apologise for your experience and thank you for the time you have taken to write and post your review of The Dunstanburgh Castle Hotel. We are always grateful for our guest’s comments and are continually striving to improve. We have an on-going refurbishment schedule which is centred around the months we are closed, and strive to maintain this level throughout our operational months. With regard to the air conditioning we are a 2 star country hotel situated in England's most northerly county where we have never had this request and given the age of the building would be almost impossible to install for the 3 to 4 weeks of the year we are grateful for the sunshine. We do have cottages available which have fridges, but not in the hotel and whilst we do not provide fans in the rooms as you were informed almost one week prior to your arrival, we could have arranged one for you upon request, had you not brought one as you had informed us.

Finally, we would like to thank you for your kind remarks regarding our team and should you wish to visit us again , I am positive that you will have the experience you deserve.
