“Amazing place, amazing people”
Reviewed 10 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

We have been meaning to write a review on Maison de la Roche since we got back from our trip in September, but somehow all the wonder of our visit seem to fade fast with the back to work rush rush syndrome.
If you want a break in a family based environment, with warm and friendly hosts, excellent acccomodation and also access to some of the most beautiful scenery and historic villages and towns, then this is the place to stay. Simon and Honor really have turned an old wine farm into a place to relax and for those who enjoy seeing what can be done with old buildings, I think Simon has done a marvelous job of restoring the buildings sympathetically. Honor introduced me to figs, which I have always avoided, and I did a fig starter the other night in honour of Honor.
A bit of a late reveiw, but hopefully it will encourage people to visit an area that is rich in history, has beautful scenery, wine farms on your doorstep and access to some fabulous towns, especially La Cite at Carcasonne.

“Stunning Gite with loads to do!”
Reviewed 8 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

Honor and Simon have created a little piece of heaven behind the gates of Maison de la Roche. Three gites, lovingly renovated by Simon to a very high standard. All mod cons whilst retaining all the character of the original barns this really is a rare find. So much to do in the surrounding area our two teenagers were well occupied for the two weeks. Cycling along the Canal du Midi, canoeing, swimming in the rivers and lakes all within easy reach. There is plenty to do even if you go out of season and the weather is inclement. Honor and Simon could not have been more helpful. All in all a very special holiday.

“Stunning gites, stunning area, wonderful people!”
Reviewed 25 September 2013 for a stay in July 2013

Just a short review as I echo everything that has already been written about Maison De La Roche. This place is a real gem. The gites are superb, the pool is great & the owners are lovely.
There is so much to do in the region, 1 week certainly wasn't long enough so we will just have to go back again (and again, and again!).
Lovely, peaceful village and just a short drive to the supermarket etc. Great restaurants in the area (Cafe Du Port, Les Calicots).
Thank you so much to Honor, Simon, Holly & Bob for making our holiday so special x

“New experience made easy”
Reviewed 24 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

Having decided to head to this region with our 3 month old daughter, the Maison De La Roche clearly stood out as the right place to come and we were extremely pleased that the reality more than lived up to its billing.

Beyond the usual high chair and cot combo, Honor provided us with a baby bath and massive bean bag to lay/sit/lose our little girl in, and for entertainment purposes we were able to make use of the shared utility/play room facility to borrow some toys and a book for bedtime.

The gite itself was great (we were upgraded to the cottage thanks to a late cancellation), lovingly converted by Simon from its prior agricultural use. The space and facilities were spot on. My knees (after an afternoon run through vineyards to the next village) weren't a fan of the stairs, the last few of which are a little narrow and steep, but just require a little more care than usual. We had also had sole use of the garden and pool everytime we wanted to use them.

Honor and Simon have an excellent knack of being there when needed, but without ever invading your privacy on your time away, and despite my British awkwardness, I didn't feel as though I was in the way as a guest at somebody else's place.

The location is fantastic to get out and about and explore, with numerous sites within an hours drive. In a week we chalked up Narbonne, a couple of spots on the Canal du Midi, Gruissan, Ceret, Agde, Sete, Pezenas and Lagrasse.

We will definitely consider a return in the future.

“excellent stay and great place for wine tasing”
Reviewed 23 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

We stayed in all three gites as a family on a week's wine tasting tour that we do each year in a different region of France. It is extremely helpful Honor and Simon on site, and their English is excellent. They were very attentive and more than happy to advise and book arrangements. Honor arranged for a Master of Wine to provide a wine tasting in the evening outside in the courtyard. Matthew (surname forgotten) was simply excellent and a great help in arranging where to visit in the region. We also had a brilliant day with Wendy Gedney on a wine tour of the Minervois. All the gites are very well equipped and tastefully decorated. Gites 1 is quite shady and the stairs down from gites 1 and 2 are extremely steep. However Honor provided us with a stair gate to protect our very young grandchildren. The courtyard itself is very safe for young children. The pool is excellent and well maintained by Simon, who is the type of person you would like to take home with you and he is so useful around the house. This was a very enjoyable holiday in a very good accommodation with helpful and attentive owners on hand. We highly recommend Maison de La Roche and the area.

“What's not to like?! Fabulous place for a holiday”

It's difficult writing a good review; I want people to know how good the gites are but I sort of want to keep them a secret too ...... We have just come back from a week at la Maison de le Roche and it surpassed any (good) expectations that I might have had.

Our gite was spacious, incredibly well equipped, clean, and tastefully decorated. There is a playroom with toys, an amazing pool, loads of space, lots to do nearby (do not miss Narbonne, Lagrasse, Carcassone, Ribaute, wine tasting at the local vineyard, the list goes on) and last, but not least, the wonderful owners, Honor and Simon. They are lovely, easy going and very approachable with lots of local knowledge. I could actually spend the entire summer there, but sadly my boss would not understand...

We will be coming back, if not next year then another time soon.
