“I wish there was a higher rating to give this lovely gite!”

I have just returned from a wonderful 2 weeks in France. I choose my accommodation based on previous tripadvisor reviews although they seemed almost too good to be true. Well this little corner of the Languedoc deserves all the rave reviews and more. The location is a wonderful base to explore and even after 2 weeks I had so much more I wanted to do. The gite is beautifully appointed- spacious, well-equipped, beautifully decorated (also the bathroom was great, brilliant power shower which is something you usually don't get in this type of accommodation).
However what makes this place truly out of the ordinary are the hosts Honor and Simon - I know it has been said before but they have an amazing ability to be incredibly welcoming, always there if you need them, fabulous advice but at the same time never ever intrusive.
SO many things I enjoyed but highlights would be the Bella Mia cruise on the Canal de Midi, wine-tasting in the garden of the property, a magical piano recital in a little church in a nearby village which I went to with Honor and her friend. Also an unexpected brilliant experience was the "Flyzone" - simulated parachute jump just 5 minutes away. My son has learning difficulties and the staff there went out of their way to make sure he could do it too - they got an extra instructor for him and were just lovely.
In the words of Arnold "I'll be back"!

“Superb gite & pool, fantastic countryside, great hosts”
Reviewed 13 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We spent a week at Maison De La Roche in June with our two young children (2 & 6 months). The gite was very well equipped and decorated to a very high standard. The accommodation was child friendly (cot was provided), with a large playroom full of toys which our daughter really enjoyed. There were some steep steps upto the gite, but not a problem with some care and attention. There are numerous places to sit and relax or eat and drink around the grounds & the pool was excellent. Our daughter also enjoyed the trampoline. The only change I would suggest would be a larger BBQ - the small cauldron BBQs look great, but I struggled to cook anything properly before the charcoal was spent.

Honor and Simon were great hosts and had lots of ideas of things to do. Some of the highlights of the holiday were picnic and paddling in the river at Ribaute, lunch at Café Du Port in Paraza over-looking the Canal du Midi, and the wine tasting evening that Honor arranged with local wine expert Matt Saunders at the gite.

This was our second visit to the Languedoc area, and we'll definitely go again, as there is so much to see and do.

“Picture perfect”
Reviewed 9 July 2014 for a stay in June 2014

A perfect location for touring a beautiful region. Our gite was spacious, comfortable and stylish. The secret garden and pool area are beautiful.
Honor was on hand when we needed her for a man flu emergency and day trip/restaurant/market/beach suggestions. Nearby walks through the vineyards, visits to Narbonne and scenic drives towards Spain via Collioure were highlights.
There is so much to see and do in the area.

“Baby made easy”
Reviewed 30 June 2014 for a stay in May 2014

This was our first holiday with a baby. We chose MdlR as it was already well equipped for couples with children of all ages, which made our stay easier and our suitcases lighter. The accommodation was beautiful, tastefully decorated, well equipped and v.comfy. It wasn't baby-proof (there were some steep stone steps leading up to the apartment etc) but it was certainly very baby friendly - and our young shaver loved the toys, and slept well in the cot. My highlight was undoubtedly the swallows nest at the bottom of the apartment - incredible!

Maison De La Roche is situated in a spectacular area - I imagine it would be at its best in the height of the summer when you can swim in the rivers etc but we were able to do some nice walks and see some extraordinary places - like minerve.

One small thing that would make this better would be to put the name of the property on the gate - as it was hard to know we had arrived at the right place.

Thank you for our stay

“Wonderful gîte in a great location”
Reviewed 27 June 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We spent a wonderful 5 nights renting the Secret garden cottage with my family (3 children 11, 8, 6) in April. The cottage was clean, beautifully decorated and the kitchen was well equipped. The courtyard off of the cottage was a very peaceful, quiet place to relax and the pool was great for the kids. Honor was an excellent and friendly host. She gave us lots of great suggestions for activities to do in the area.
Maison de la Roche was situated in a perfect location to do day trips of the area. We rented biked on the Canal du Midi, explored nearby villages, spent a day at Carcasonne, explored the cathar castle of Peyrepeteuse. We could have easily stayed longer as there is so much to do around the area. Next time we will definitely do the wine tasting evening that Honor suggested. Thank you for helping to make our trip such a wonderful experience.

“Staying at Maison de la Roche was as close to being in heaven as you get.”

I took my 21 year old daughter to Corbieres as her graduation present from university. My husband and I had spent time in the region, further north, 5 years ago, and loved it. Maison de la Roche was a perfect accommodation. Honor and Simon were as much a presence as one wanted--leaving us alone when we wished and chatting and advising when we wished. The accommodations themselves were wonderful--a real kitchen with everything you needed to cook full meals, 2 super comfortable bedrooms and a completely modern bathroom, all beautifully done, apparently by Simon. Easy and never failing internet access and a television we did not use even once--we were busy and happy until too late to bother turning it on.
THere is no more lovely part of Languedoc that I have seen--and this was, as mentioned, my second trip. THere are more than enough minor and major excursions and Honor supplies all the necessary information. I will be going back.

“Great accommodation in super countryside.”
Reviewed 20 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

We had a great week with Honor and Simon. Accommodation and surroundings are top notch. Location is a great base for touring rural France and Spain is only an hour away.

The village is very quiet and you do have to travel to neighbouring villages for a variety of restaurants, though the local tapas bar is good and very welcoming. We had a lot of barbecues and just staring at the stars with a glass of red made for a perfect evening.
