Found this little gem searching the internet. Needed a stop over after visiting a sick relative. Fantastic. Just what we need after a difficult day. Lovely large comfortable room. Great restaurant and bar. Super food, great service. Can't fault it. We will be back. Thank you to all concerned for making our stay such a treat.

The Bell is perfect if you are looking for a reasonably priced weekend away in Oxfordshire. The pub serves great food, the bedrooms are lovely and it is in a great location. Just 15mins from Blenheim Palace and Bicester Village, plus the bus stop outside enables you to get a bus directly to Oxford.
We booked this last minute and were delighted with our choice, the website really does not do this property justice. We stayed in the very spacious Room 2, which is a bright room with a great bathroom - it overlooks the driveway into the carpark (can be a little noisy at peak arrival/departure times) but is a lovely room and spotlessly clean.
The food was excellent in the pub, the cheese souffle for a starter was delicious and the homemade bread very tempting. Both at dinner and at breakfast the service was great, helpful, friendly and warm.
We strongly recommend The Bell and look forward to returning very soon.

We visit on Mothers Day - on Sundays there is a choice of two sittings, 12 noon or 3 pm. We were the latter. We were a little early and seated promptly but there were two large groups immediately next to us. The one with young children, the others were really noisy, and rather ruined out experience. They wanted to take our drinks order before we'd hardly sat down, then it was hard to get attention. Tap water, still or sparkling was offered - and we skipped starters & went straight for the roasts. When I booked some months before I mentioned we had a veggie in our party & was told the main menu would be available. It want offered which left my husband with on choice, a vegetable tart & salad (which meant a bit of rocket). We weren't offered bread and didn't immediately realise it was a cost option on the starter & latterly ordered some - just as well we did as hubby would have been starving otherwise!! Given the prices are a bit over average for the area - a free first basket of bread would have been good... Anyway, between us we had two port roast & two beef. The servings of meat were generous, and although the roast potatoes could have been a little more golden, the roasts were excellent. They didn't offer condiments, I had to ask for horseradish. Also requested extra gravy, which came quickly, and was pipping hot (such requests have confused other kitchens in my experience). For dessert - I had chocolate brownie - again generous size and lush-ious. I'm not an expert (yet) but I'd say Mary Berry would rate it... Other deserted sampled by our party included the tiramisu, ample & champagne crumble & eaton mess. The latter was weird - it was like a berry mouse - no visible meringue, no visible cream just a berry blend?! On the whole the food was good, the wine not over priced, so, we would go again. But not on a Sunday - and I'd ask for the table at side of the bar to reduce the likelihood of being overwhelmed by others!! The service was only fair to good.

We would like to thank you for your honest review.

We understand your dissatisfaction and we do hope that it did not ruin your view on the Bell. Taken into consideration that is was Mothering Day, we hope you understand the busy pub like us would be full of families with noisy children.

Sunday lunch is always busy here at the Bell, as you have mentioned we hope to see you on a different day. We do not have a problem with giving away free bread, but as it is on our full menu we do not wish to spoil our customer appetite. As you have rightly mentioned, the portions are generous and we would rather our customers enjoy a proper 3 course meal.

Thank you again and hope we can prove ourselves next time you book with us. Mothering day is the busiest day of the year, I am confident any other Sunday lunch would be satisfactory.

I was part of a 30th birthday dinner celebration and I have to say the staff were fantastic. Great service having been told the party was slightly bigger than The Bell would normally accept. They need not have worried as the service and food was spot on, perhaps some of the very best I have had in a long while. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good pint followed by top notch food.

If you like to sleep in a "boutique style coffin-esque" luxury, room 5 is for you. In order to experience a truly hellish 3 nights as I did, guests should ideally be a couple of inches short of 6ft (178 cm +). They will have benefit from having to bend over constantly whilst walking around room, bending over whilst having a shower and bending over / contorting / genuflexing through what is quite possibly the smallest bathroom door of what is, Alice in Wonderland proportions. Additionally occupants will be able to endure punters' merriment via their ground floor double glazing where the frame seals are so shot, they let traffic / guest noise in and together with draft. This room comes with a guarantee of a bad nights sleep.

To put things factually: the room is tiny and claustrophobic with no more than 2.5ft clearance round each side of the bed, ceiling clearance is very limited. There is considerable background noise (kitchen, pub, road), the shockingly poor window seals exacerbate this problem. Bathroom is equally small, the bath is indulgent and sybaritic, though perhaps the grand size is just a visual allusion due to proportionally small bathroom! The high quality furnishings are simply ruined by the lack of space and steal your enjoyment, the website is deceiving and in no way communicates the size of the room. I roughly calculated this room area to be around 11-12 sq. metres, this is half the industry standard room, to put this into perspective a double bed area 3.6 sq metres.

After a written complaint, was escalated, the offer of a repeat visit filled me with complete dread and in no way answered any of my concerns and suggested that many people like "cosy" aka miniscule bedrooms - I strongly disagree, the entire hotel industry is based on yields hence why larger rooms cost more. Had the proprietor’s response been more amenable, I would have been less inclined to post such negative feedback. Having travelled extensively, my requirements for space and value are far from unreasonable.

Restaurant food was good and would recommend but ensure you sleep elsewhere as the room is an absolute con and plenty of other establishments in Bicester / Oxford supply equal luxury and double the space.

Still waiting for a part credit . . . . . .

We were recommended to this hotel by a friend for a great place to stay for a shopping trip planned at Bicester Village. From a positive note the arrival was dealt with very professionally and we were made to feel most welcome. We had upgraded to an Executive room and were informed this was the best room. It was very large, nicely furnished and very clean with lots of lighting. We had quoted a code when we booked the room which entitled us to a free bottle of Prosecco, a plus if you booked direct; unfortunately this did not appear in the room, however it was not until on the way home that we remembered it should have been there (I am sure they would have fixed straight away if we had of notified them whilst we were there) but a shame they had overlooked. We ate in the restaurant in the evening and they were very accommodating for Saturday night in creating two extra places at the table for our friends who wished to join us.. The food was ok but the service not great which posed a few frustrations. The main downside, however was the noise from the restaurant at the end of the evening. We were trying to get to sleep and it was rather noisy with people leaving then after the restaurant was closed there was rather a lot of scraping of chairs (not sure if this is when the cleaning was taking place). Unfortunately this was just too noisy for us and has put us off staying again; I am sure it is a lot quieter during the week. The Tea and Coffee tray in the room is well catered for all tastes, and toiletries provided in the bathroom (no shower cap though). Whilst I appreciate the staff have no control over people being noisy when leaving the establishment the remainder of the noises could have been avoided. Based on other hotels we have stayed in we did feel this was slightly over priced.

Thank you for your comment.

As you have mentioned the staff were accommodating but service was not good and free room upgrade but not satisfied, we are sorry to hear that your stay was not 100%.

Perhaps we should have been more clear about the prosecco. Customers with direct bookings should ask for the prosecco to a member of staff upon arrival or at the bar later on. Not everyone is entitled to a prosecco and it is hard to keep track of different room reservations.

On Saturday evening we serve around 100 covers and it is difficult to keep the noise down. However the staff are trying to inform noisy customers to keep noise to minimum, but as you have mentioned - we do not have the control over our customers (it is difficult to keep an eye out).
The noise could have been produced by the cleaners and this matter has been dealt with.

Please, accept our apologies for the inconvenience.
