“A 'Vacation Home' Owned by People with Good Hearts!”
Reviewed 13 January 2014

That is what you would feel upon arrival - it's like arriving in a favorite vacation home. :)

We did not intend to stay here (although we had initially made contacts while looking around for a place) but had to transfer at the last-minute because of a horrible experience in another hotel in Tanah Rata. Fortunately, Gerard promptly responded to confirm that there was a cancellation, which we can avail of.

And it was indeed a blessing in disguise that we had to transfer on the 2nd night because we had found a 'treasure' in Cameron Highlands. Gerard's Place is tastefully furnished, clean, comfortable, and owned/managed by a couple who do not make you feel that you are just a source of business for them. Gerard and Jay are certainly perfect fits in the hotel business, and more than that, genuinely caring people who understands travelers.

As travelers, we do not mind simple accommodations. Sometimes we stay in luxurious places and sometimes, in simple ones. But always, one thing that makes us remember a place is not how soft the beds were or how delicious the food was (those can certainly help) but how we were treated and felt as guests. Gerard's Place treats you with trust, care, and respect.

To Gerard and Jay - thank you for accepting us even at the last minute. It had been a and c comfortable wonderful stay.

P.s. I personally liked how the whole house smells soooooo nice!

Although I haven't seen any other places in Tanah Rata, I can say without a doubt that this is one of the best places there.
The guesthouse is an apartment with 8 rooms. Some with a shared bathroom, some with an attached bathroom. The place is very homely and has a nice atmosphere. Everyone was mingeling during breakfast or at night. There is a nice crowd: all experienced travellers with lots of stories to share.
Comfortable rooms and beds. Only bad thing was that the shared bathroom was flooded all the time, because of the way other guests used the bathroom.
Jay, the manager, is the nicest pesron. She arranges everything for you: tours, bustickets, advice on where to eat (go eat Indian at Sri Brinchang!), laundry, a drop-off at the busstation.

As soon as we stepped through the door we felt at home. The apartment is incredibly modern, homely and clean.
The rooms are spacious & comfortable. We paid 80rm for a double with shared bathroom, & toast/tea/coffee & having paid the same elsewhere in Malaysia this place blew our low expectations out of the water!

The feel of the place is very chilled, making it easy to talk to others staying there -we met some great people!- or just enjoy your own company.

Jay was brilliant, chatty, funny and helpful. She booked our onward travel to Pangkor & Gerard drove us too the bus station in the morning for no extra cost. We also booked onto the Mossy Forest trip through them & it was the highlight of our visit. The guide is an ecologist so it was so much more informative then it would have been from any other guide.

Why look anywhere else :)

Great stay.
We stayed over for 3 nights. Jay has been very helpful during our trip.
She is looking after her guest.
European bathroom and hot water highly appreciated.
We recommend to use her to book your activities through Cameron secret. We had a trek with Jason in the rain and mossy forest for 5 hours. I truly recommend to stay one more day to do it. It is very different from what you will see during a full day discovery tour where you will only spend 30min (very interesting though).

We originally came for 2 nights as a birthday treat from our rtw travel and ended up staying a week! The bed is really comfy and the communal areas feel like you are in your own apartment. Jay is very helpful, friendly and offered loads of good advice on local trekking and the best places to eat (try Kumars!) she even got us a birthday cake, very sweet of her. Joshuah is also very helpful and has an encyclopedic knowledge of English football!

Breakfast is simple but good and there's tea and coffee all day which is appreciated after trekking in the rain.

This was a delightful sojourn in the Cameron Highlands, thanks largely to the kindness and attentiveness of Jay and her son. They both helped us enormously by recommending some wonderful restaurants, steering us onto the best tours (indeed advising us to take a cheaper tour than what we had planned - clearly commission isn't their premiere interest) and being marvellously attentive to all our needs. Jay even took our laundry into town for us while we were away on our tour. She made a great effort to chat to us and told us a lot of interesting information about the magnificent country of Malaysia.

The room was nice, although, by heavens, it gets cold here! The shared area is lovely, with a great TV and all the channels you could ask for, a kitchen area and an exquisitely homely feel. I doff my cap to you, Gerard's!
