Gerards is a great guest house that offers a good standard of accommodation at a reasonable cost. I can't speak highly enough of the friendly and kind GH owners who really care about their guests. Jay and her son Joshua were full of information and helpful tips about everything relating to our stay in the Cameron Highlands. In fact in the end we travelled with family members to our next destination of Ipoh as our departure coincided with a business trip there. Our 4x nights were a cool respite after the heat of Penang during our 3 week trip in Malaysia. We had an ensuite room- my only negative comment is there was a musty smell when the room was closed up and towels would stay damp- this is due to the climate and the orientation of the apartment. On the positive side the room had a lovely bay window and a large bathroom and were clean. The living area and kitchen are also clean and well furnished and we felt comfortable using these common areas. We were over toast and tea for breakfast after our stay, but appreciated this inclusion, however you can buy breakfast down the main street if you wish. You feel like a family guest as other family members are also involved in the business and someone is always popping in to make sure everyone is okay and attending to arranging any bookings for day trips, onward travel etc. The other guests were a lovely mix of young travellers and more mature like ourselves, all like minded in their love of travel. We were happy with the walk down the hill to town and back again as we like walking- and enjoyed some trail walks as well as an organised day trip. Tanah Rata is small so we were running into our hosts and other guests which was fun and sharing tips about where to eat etc. it was lovely and quiet at night and during the day.

Room Tip: There are ensuite rooms at a little extra cost that face out to a lovely garden

Our family had 2 rooms at Gerard's for 2 nights. Overall an enjoyable stay....the highlands are great! Accommodations were clean and quiet, but there were a few small hiccups. For example, the morning of our arrival (by bus), I received an e-mail telling us to report to Father's Guest House (which handles all reservations, etc.). Upon arrival at Father's, we were then told that no, we should have gone directly to Gerard's. Fortunately, the mini-bus driver helped us out. Also, when you check-in, there is a roll of toilet paper in the room, for use in the shared toilet. I found it surprisingly difficult to remember to take this with me and didn't understand why if we were sharing the toilet, we couldn't share the roll of toilet paper, too.

Area information was available (books, photos, etc.) and bottled water was for sale to save guests from having to haul it up the hill. It seems that while we were there, the staff had a lot going on in their lives, but we appreciated that they made certain we knew to avoid the hiking trail to the falls, as this has been plagued by recent robberies (we had been planning on this hike, so greatly appreciated the heads up!). Also, they graciously provided a ride to the bus station for our departure. Overall, a very good stay.

We stayed at Gerard's place for two nights and enjoyed our stay. The staff was really friensly abd helpful. The common areas were excellent and breakfast nice (all you can eat tea, coffee and toast with jam). The hostel was a bit hard to find to though. Also our bedsheets were very damp but I guess that's more because of the climate on Cameron Highlands.

Unbelievably friendly, clean and good value. The owner will go out of her way to help you out, even drove us to the bust station in her own car. Her son is also very nice, he showed us the way to the guest house through the rain when we arrived. We were backpacking as I for 10 months and this place is still one of the beat places we stayed.

This place is pure bliss! For those on a long journey through SE Asia, I highly recommend splashing the cash on Gerard's place. It's like being at home. Living room with nice couches, a kitchen for making basic food (C.Highlands food was very disappointing), comfortable bed, and really nice owners. Their tours are a little more expensive than others, but at least with the rafleesia tour we actually got to see one in bloom. Others we met weren't so lucky!
