“A perfect start to our Marlborough Sounds adventure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2012

We stayed at Okiwa for two nights at the start of October. The views from the lodge were breathtaking, the food was excellent, and the hot tub was a perfect way to end each day. The lodge itself, and the rooms, were spotless and nicely appointed with photographs and art. Susie and Martin were spectacular hosts -- generous and great fun. Martin was kind enough to pick us up from the ferry in Picton and played tour guide the next day traipsing us through the vineyards in Blenheim (with a small fee). Susie's meals were yummie -- make sure to come with a big appetite.

Overall, our stay was a real treat!

We were delighted to be able to offer the peace and tranquillity you needed after your conference in Wellington. We do hope that one day you will return to see more of our amazing views and explore our native bush walks. Thank you for staying with us, we too enjoyed your company.

Thank you so much Susie and Martin for making our visit so memorable. The rooms, the food, the ambience and of course the company could not have been faulted. As for the view - it is indescribable, sitting in the hot tub looking down the whole of Queen Charlotte Sound, listening to the bird song while enjoying a glass of the local wine was stunning. You are very lucky to have found such a special piece of paradise to call your own, to share it with the rest of us is truly a blessing.

We felt very honoured to be chosen as your "Special" birthday destination. Yes, there is nothing nicer than sitting watching the stars surrounded by hot bubbling water and sipping a glass of local wine. We gain a great deal of pleasure in sharing our "Piece of Paradise" with our guests.
We look forward to your next visit. Remember, you do not have to wait for a special occasion.

My husband and I had a three night stay at Okiwa Bay Lodge in July 2012. From the very first moments of meeting Susie and Martin we felt very welcomed. They immediately put us at ease and the conversation flowed effortlessly. They are both very friendly open and warm. Their house is beautiful and spotlessly clean and the views are absolutely incredible. We felt so relaxed and had such a peaceful stay. Susie and Martin are brilliant hosts, nothing was too much trouble and we can highly recommend Okiwa Bay for a delightful and indulgent break from reality.

We were both so delighted you felt so relaxed in our "Piece of Paradise". Despite the early fog the ever changing scenery is like a kaleidoscope and never ceases to amaze us. Thank you for sharing good conversation with us, the pleasure was entirely ours. We look forward to you returning for another R&R.

For my parents 40th Wedding Anniversary I wanted to take them somewhere special. I live in the Marlborough Sounds and it was my parents first visit to New Zealand. The problem - my dad is disabled and in a wheelchair, is diabetic and has all sorts of medical issues. At Owika Bay Lodge though, nothing was a problem. Pre warned, Martin and Suzie went out of their way to make sure mum and dad felt special from the moment they arrived and that the medical issues really were no issue. Wheelchair access was easy, dad could access all areas and enjoy the stunning views from all angles. His dietary requirements were fully catered for and Suzie rustled up a stunning celebration 3 course meal for their anniversary and all 7 of us were able to sit down and enjoy. Mum was able to fully relax and enjoy walking in the bush photographing the stunning bird life enjoying the surrounding native bush, knowing that Dad was on the balcony enjoying the panoramic views down the Sounds.
Both our room and my parents rooms were immaculate and very well appointed. Mum and I enjoyed a couple of glasses of bubbly in the hot tub under a sparkling night sky. Dad and my husband spent ages admiring Martin's photographic gallery. But the main selling point of the Lodge has got to the view - from the bedroom windows, from the balcony, from the grounds - straight down the Marlborough Sounds. Just beautiful ! Location, location, location ...
All in all, an amazing success and this is entirely down to Martin and Suzie and the passion and care they put into Okiwa Bay Lodge. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Lodge for a special break, or just to get away and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. Full wheelchair access is not the norm in NZ, so it really was special in every sense. My parents haven't stopped talking about it !! Thank you Martin and Suzie for making it such a special time for them, and for us as a family.

Room Tip: Wheelchair accessible rooms available on request.

The honour and pleasure was entirely ours. We were so delighted to be able to offer you all as a family a wonderful stay at Okiwa Bay Lodge. It gave me a real thrill to see your Dad standing unaided at the edge of the deck watching the black swans and the activities on the water. We look forward to your return visits.

Okiwa Bay Lodge is a gem. Susie and Martin are wonderful hosts and great cooks too! Having spent the previous 3 days hiking Able Tasman, sleeping in huts, and eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, we were REALLY looking forward to our night at Okiwa Bay Lodge. I can say that our high expectations were exceeded. We accepted their offer to have dinner there and glad we did. The food was delicious and the conversation was relaxed and engaging. The room was very clean and comfortable with a million dollar view. I only wish we could have stayed longer. I will definitely stay there again next time we visit NZ.

Room Tip: Allow 1/2 hour to drive from / to ferry terminals in Picton.

Very hard to leave your room to sightsee with a view like this! Susie & Martin were very welcoming hosts. Great breakfast & a beautiful spot from which to explore the sounds. Comfy bed, large room with great ensuite. Great location between Havelock & Picton which is about 20 minutes away.

It was lovely to meet you both although your stay was short and sweet. We do hope that next time you come you will be able to stay for longer and really enable yourselves to enjoy the wonderful region of Marlborough. The dolphins have just returned to Okiwa Bay so they are great entertainment during breakfast.

Staying at the Okiwa Bay Lodge was a highlight of our 3-week trip to New Zealand and Australia. Watching the sun rise over Queen Charlotte Sound from our room was unforgettable. Susie and Martin were perfect hosts and we enjoyed all the time we spent relaxing on their deck, eating excellent meals they prepared, and driving with them up and down the windy road from Picton to their lodge. Since we did not have a car, they not only picked us up from the ferry terminal, but also took us back to Picton the next day so we could do a wine tour and to the airport at Blenheim on our final day. The OBL is about a 40 minute drive from Picton, and a little isolated, but it worked perfectly for us. We definitely plan to come back!
