“Stunning views and very friendly hosts”
Reviewed 7 April 2013

We were slightly daunted by the steep drive to the lodge but once we got to the top ... what a view! Certainly worth the climb. Martin and Susie greeted us and promptly provided tea and biscuits.

Plenty of room in this property ... several outdoor sitting/dining areas and a great cedar hot-tub. The lounge has two large areas ... one with a TV and one area for social chat. We were the only guests on the night we stayed and had a great chat with our hosts ... it was like meeting up with old friends.

Lots of nice artwork around ... Both Martin and Susie seem to be quite creative.

We dined with them and had a nice three course meal with wine for a very reasonable price. Breakfast was great too.

Beds ... Very comfortable / space good
Kitchen ... None ... B&B only in the room that we selected ... hosts would probably chill/freeze items if requested
Milk provided
Lounge ... Huge ... Comfortable sofas
Breakfast ... Included and cooked to choice
Bathroom ... Shower only / no bath ... Size Good
TV ... Available but we didn't use it ... spent our time chatting
Wifi ... Complimentary but fairly quick
Restaurants ... None close by but hosts will cook if requested in advance
Parking ... Guest area, off-road
Views ... stunning ... try and wake for the sunrise ... amazing, I'll try and post a pic later

Room Tip: Room 1 gives you a view straight down Marlborough Sound ... great for the sunrise

Excellent place to relax with high quality foods and wines, very dedicated hosts at all times.
The phantastic view with lots of sunshine , enjoying fresh local fruits and vegetables.. particular traveling on my own there was always some nice company if required , sharing wine tasting events, swimming with wild dolphines, visiting the markets in Nelson and plenty of opportunities to swimm in the Marlboruogh sound, the Pacific or close to Nelson

Room Tip: because it was so quiet over night, I think any room was fine, I enjoyed sleeping with open windows...

We stayed at Okiwa Bay Lodge for 2 nights and had a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

The lodge is about 30 minutes from Picton on a road with glorious scenery and when you reach the lodge you get a truly stunning view over the sound.

The lodge is extremely comfortable with plenty of space to do your own thing or socialise. Our en suite room was very spacious, with a terrace and had 'the view' from our bed.

Susie and Martin are very generous hosts who provided excellent dinners and breakfasts. Nothing was too much trouble. They had a very good local knowledge and helped to organise local activities e.g. Wine tasting tours.

We very highly recommend Okiwa bay lodge.

The setting is fabulous. From the road you climb steeply up the drive and finally you arrive at Okiwa Bay Lodge. The views are superb as the Lodge is situated at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound. We stayed for three nights and never tired of the views. Even at night there was much to see and I swear I have never seen a 'night sky' quite like the one from the Lodge. Susie and Martin are very congenial hosts and make you feel very welcome in their home. In no time at all you feel at ease and able to enjoy the location and the bonhomie. While we were there we found plenty to do - a day's walking on the excellent Queen Charlotte track, sight-seeing around Picton and Haverlock and just generally chilling out enjoying the Lodge's garden and watching the local birds that came to visit. After three days we left fully refreshed and ready to take on the rest of South Island!

Thank you. To be able to view the Milky Way from our deck or whilst sitting in the hot tub is truly exceptional and we are so glad you were able to enjoy it. The landscape - our "labour of love" is so rewarding and attracts such a diverse selection of wildlife.

My Fiancee and I stayed here 10th Feb for one night. Martin and Sue make you feel very welcome and the property is located on the beautiful hillside overlooking the sound.
The views are beautiful and so was the room and breakfast.
This property has a hot tub which we used in the evening, the view of the stars from here were fantastic that evening.
You will need a car to get to local restaurants which are in Picton.
We loved our stay here and would recommend this accomodation.

We stayed at Okiwa Bay Lodge in December 2012 and enjoyed this little piece of paradise very much. The views are stunning and it is just relaxing to sit on the deck and enjoy the sounds. Our room (I think it was number one) was just perfect - very clean and spacious and a view to die for! Susie and Martin are very welcoming hosts interested in making your stay a perfect one. Susie even prepared a lunch box for us when we were going on a boat trip (which they also helped us to organize) and Martin let me in on his secrets about scrambled eggs - the best we have ever had so far! We had a great time at Okiwa and hope we can come back there one day.
