“Great stay”
Reviewed 18 July 2013

We stayed here for one night on our way from Ottawa to Charlevoix. It was a good place to stop and to see Quebec city which is about 20 minutes drive away. The hotel is lovely and our room on the ground floor opened out onto a grass patio where we could sit. It was near a stream and beautiful woodlands. The room was nicely decorated and very comfortable. We enjoyed a great meal in the terraced outdoor restaurant and the traditional entertainment was most enjoyable. The museum was very good too. Altogether a memorable stay.

Kwe!

We are always very proud to know that our guests had a nice stay. Like you, a lot of them enjoy the fact that we are close to Quebec City, but still have our own color, or own culture. Hope to welcome you again soon.

This place was so surprisingly cool. The restaurant in the hotel was awesome. Check out their local beer on tap. I forgot the name of it. Room and lobby are decorated very well. They have a museum attached to the hotel that tells the story of Indians being sent to education camps in Canada. Actually very sad but it is a great museum. Perfect romantic weekend getaway. Go here....

Kwe!

Glad to hear you enjoyed your stay!
The name of the local beer you are looking for is "Kwe", the same Native word we use to greet our guests.
Be sure we will forward your nice comments to our collegues working in the museum.

We (a family of 4) spent 3 nights here during a recent vacation in Quebec City. This hotel is effectively located in a small American Indian village (reserve) that has become over the years part of the Quebec metropolitan area. You’ll need a car, but this place is definitely worth a visit:

The architecture is beautiful, and the small museum (free to people staying at the hotel) was definitely worth a visit.

In the evening we sat outside around a fire and drank local gin served in an ice glass (you throw it into the nearby woods afterwards, where i twill melt in the spring; kids can have hot chocolate and roast marshmellows), and an excellent and interesting American Indian staff member was there to talk about whatever – his life, Indian culture, or anything else that comes up. You should also visit the nearby Wendake tourist office – there are many other things to see on the small reservation if you have the time.

Everyone at the hotel was warm and friendly, and all was real efficient. Hotel rooms are good sized (we had the regular room with 3 queen beds; there was a coffee machine with coffee capsules (good quality), and a mini-fridge in the room too. The price for a night was very reasonable for Quebec City and especially for a hotel so beautiful.

The restaurant on the ground floor looked good and I have a friend who lives in Quebec who occasionally brings visitors to eat there – he said it is very good. We never ate there for two reasons – it is pretty expensive and we are vegetarians – their veggie options were very limited, and we don’t like patronizing a place that serves seal meat...

The one thing we didn’t like was the presence of furs throughout the hotel. I know that trapping was a way of life for many of the first nations communities, but seeing furs that look like dogs draped over chairs, and having 4 small furs in our room was off-putting for me and my family (we asked that they be removed and the woman at the reception very pleasantly accepted to do that).

That said, we would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Quebec City who is mobile (has a car). First time visitors who want the usual tourist experience in the expensive redone old town should stay there, but for people who have been to Quebec before, this hotel/museum is a REAL nice option.

Everyone at Hôtel-Musée Premières Nations was very proud to learn that your stay was up to your expectations. Of course, we understand food preferences and are always willing to accomodate vegetarians and vegans, but your moral principles are totally understandable. It is good to know you could enjoy your environment anyways.

Wendake will always be happy to welcome you anyway!

Very nice and modern hotel. Rooms are simple, well decorated, with the ameridian touch that makes the difference. Very quite hotel with fireplace in the lobby. Nice attention like tea in the lobby at 4 and gin on the outside terrace between 5 to 7. Employees were very polite, profesionnel and friendly.
Restaurant La Traite offers typical and very good food. A bit pricy, but it worths it. The village is small and welcoming. Bicycle path in front of the hotel and river with walking paths in the back. Will certainly return during the summer time to visit the Museum and try the Spa.

I wanted to see this unique hotel since I've heard about it and I finally booked 4 nights during the Holidays, while visiting family. I lived in Québec City for 10 years and know a lot about this city, but I've never been to the Wendake village, where this hotel is located. The place is totally unique, expressing the first nation culture in an exquisite way. The architecture, the design, the hosts, the museum, the food, they all talk about this culture. We thought it is very successfully done and we greatly appreciated our stay.
The hotel is a 15 minutes drive from Old Québec and is located in a quiet first nation village, Wendake, by the St-Charles River. It is very accessible and in a natural setting at the same time. Sitting in the lobby or in your room, you overlook a small forest and the river. We enjoyed the lobby sitting space very much, with its central fireplace. It is small, beautiful and very cozy. There is a museum about the first nations culture attached to the hotel. We loved our visit there, the guide was very knowledgeable of his culture and interesting. This museum is well worth the detour, even if you don't stay at the hotel.
Our room was comfortable (the bed was perfect!) and full of nice details (furs, furniture). A bit small for the 4 of us, but the standard size for an hotel room.
The restaurant is also worth the detour, and the design is a must-see in itself (big tree trunks as beams, panaches over the bar). The food is perfect if you love meat, but we thought it lacked a bit of creativity. The children menu was disappointing. We tried the seal meat, which was interesting.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay at the Hotel Musée Premières Nations and we recommend it without any hesitation. It is also an excellent value, at the same price of a standard chain hotel.

This place is operated by Wendat people and it is located on the reserve of Wendake. A very nice little village where Native people are proud and where everything offered is of good quality. Moreover, it is a 15-minute drive from Quebec City which is worth visiting of course. Inside the hotel, you will find a small museum also worth visiting. The food is good, especially for the Sunday brunch.

If you open your windows, you will hear the sound of the St-Charles river. In front of the hotel, there is a bicycle path which takes you all the way to Quebec City if you feel like exercising. Otherwise, you can go the other direction and see more of the river and its environment.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good as they are located on the river and forest side. If you wish to sit outside...

We hosted a weekend retreat/conference at this unique hotel. I have never encountered such warm hospitality, helpfulness or pride from a hotel or its staff. The hotel itself is beautiful and comfortable. The goose feather bedding was a luxury! My only let down in the room was the lack of hair conditioner. The food at our group dinner (duck) was delicious, but the meal I had in the main dining room was an experience. Three courses, and certainly not cheap, but so good. I felt very much at home for my entire stay. Merci beaucoup!
