“An evening to remember and an excellent brunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2013

Have been twice to this restaurant. Once for the seven-course meal with wine-pairings, and once for the Sunday Brunch with family. Both were excellent. Out of the ordinary, the resto is in Wendake, a Huron Indian reserve. Fish and game meants prepared in traditional manner are delicious. Sauces use berries and other flavourings found in the wild, pair well and create unexpected taste-sensations. Wine parings are well suited and innovative. Several were imported by the resto and can't be bought at the liquor store. What a disappointment - we'll have to go back to taste them again! Brunch has traditional fare, plus Huron specialities. Go for the unusual - you won't regret. Brunch at $25 is excellent value and a good way to get to know the resto.

“A Best-Meal Restaurant, Indeed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2013

"La Traite"--part of the beautiful new Wendake First Nations hotel -is indeed a treat even for visitors of the adjacent museum who are not hotel guests. The ambiance is as artfully designed as the entire hotel; the view of "wilderness" and a brook is a nice bonus. The food is exquisite--we had brook trout and, a special treat, local venison. All that together with a most attentive staff (including the hotel receptionists who enabled us to be served within the hour we had before the museum tour) made our lunch a memorable event.

“A real gourmet restaurant with a First Nation flair”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2013

The four course menu that came with our "First Nation package" at the hotel was truly outstanding. I selected smoked eel as the first course. I never ate eel before but it was delicious, very delicate, absolutely delicious. The tomato soup, as second course, was very tasty, seasoned to perfection. The red deer meat for the third course was tender and tasty with a great blue cheese sauce. Fortunately, the portions were just right and I could still enjoyed a delicately maple flavored dessert. The service was outstanding and the atmosphere and decors tasteful and elegant. The breakfast buffet the next morning was one of the best that I ever experienced.

“Fine cuisine honouring First Nation culture”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2013

Gourmet / fine cuisine restaurant in the Wendake First Nations hotel - spa - museum - gourmet restaurant - meeting facility all in one place that honours First Nation culture without being too "kitsch". It is a tasteful atmosphere that is rustic but elegant (if those two words could be used together). The restaurant specializes in gourmet food with game. Both the hotel and restaurant are award-winning. The small river and woods setting, along with garden, make for a lovely scenic walk before supper.

We had excellent service from Jimmy, unhurried, and attentive. Would go back for a treat! Our meal alone included:

Wapiti, grilled seal, bison, squid, and the desserts were delicious… sea buckthorn and white chocolate. If you are in the mood for truly regional foods showcased gourmet-style, I would recommend La Traite.
