“unexpected news”
Reviewed 5 January 2014

Occassionly we go to the rising sun for a meal and were quite devasted to hear that Vinny and dave were leaving at the end of january. The food has always been first class and the atmosphere extremely friendly it is so sad, good luck to you both in your next venture where ever it may be.

“Proper pub, Proper Food, Proper Hospitality”
Reviewed 20 December 2013

Yet again a great evening with great ale, hospitality and jolly good fooooooood.
Such a shame the current landlord is having to leave AT END OF JANUARY 2014.
Dont think any grub will be on offer after january, so best to phone beforehand to check if you want to eat.
I suspect the nice music bands will dissapear also.
I f all this is true, why go. Check for yourself.

“Great pub grub”
Reviewed 12 December 2013

Visited this recently. My husband had the mixed grill which in his opinion is the best he has ever had (and he has had a lot). Very good portion sizes and indeed all homecooked, There was a band on the night we was there and they do have regular live music. Its very cosy and the owners was so nice. Will be visiting this pub again soon

“Decent homemade pub grub”
Reviewed 8 December 2013

We've been here a few times now and upset that we didn't discover it previously, living reasonably close by!

The restaurant isn't about fine dining but good, home made, tasty and hearty pub grub. It wins over other pubs in the area as it does a wide selection of dishes properly. So, no "cheat" puff pastry lidded pies but ones where it has proper shortcust pastry top, bottom and sides! The portions are generous and you can just feel the homemadeness oozing out of every dish...the chef should be commended. So, even though it might not be the most perfect rendition of that dish (although some of them are or are close) it will always be tasty and you know the chef has put effort into making it rather than opening up the freezer and turning the microwave on.

The pub is characterful and has great views from the outside terrace. The owners make the place too, Dave is very characterful, cheery and attentive. Decent beer selection too -this is how all country pubs should be!

“Beautiful country pub”
Reviewed 6 December 2013

The couple that run the sun are very welcoming and make your visit enjoyable. All the food is as local as possible and the barmaids/ waitresses employed there are stunning! The food is high quality and there is a great selection of beers etc.
The beer garden is really nice in good weather and there is ample parking. The prices are fvery good indeed and there is live music on Fridays.
