“Indifferent”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2014

Used to enjoy coming here for simple, well cooked food. But...it seems we are not the only people to be completely mystified why a dish of (cold) smoked ham, accompanied by fried eggs and bubble and squeak, would be served with a (very indifferent) warm gravy. On a cold plate, the gravy quickly started congealing and made for a very unpleasant experience. Even after we questioned the combination there was no comeback, other than 'I will have a word with the chef.' Not sure there is any cook, who believes him or herself worthy of the tag 'chef', could have thought the combination reasonable.

The crab salad with 'new potatoes' was acceptable, but grossly overpriced and the new potatoes were in fact a potato salad. Tasteless salad/dressing completed a fantastically dull lunch.

“Very good, lovely staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014 via mobile

We've visited the pub before in the past and had good food and this most recent visit was no different. Good filling meals. Friendly atmosphere and nice staff whih isn't always essential but takes an average place into a good one. Got a little quiet towards the end however overall very good. Lunch was just as good when we popped in for a bite would defiantly recommend. Good luck to the future. Room for improvement would be to have a larger drinking area, we wanted a quiet drink one night and there just wasn't the space to mingle

“Our English Adventure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

We have visited this pub in 2012 as well as June 2014. It is a wonderfully English pub experience! The food was fabulous and the service friendly and fast. I was amazed that it is "pet friendly" and you can bring your dog along with you. Great if you are travelling with your furry friend and don't want to leave him in the car. Loved the fish and chips and the veggie burger was one of the nicest I have ever eaten. If you are in Orford, this is definitely the place to go to get the authentic pub experience!

“Now Rather Average - What a Shame”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2014

This is a re-review and I feel somewhat guilty as the front of house staff are lovely and really couldn't provide a better service. However, recent visits have simply confirmed that the cooking is nowhere near as good as it was last summer when we thought it was fantastic. Sadly, the JS seems to produce pretty standard pub food which is rather lacking in execution. The fish for the fish and chips is inadequately boned and filleted and a lovely smoked chicken breast was drowning in a sea of dressing which detracted completely from the delicate flavour. Such a shame - they use good quality ingredients but the end result is somewhat lacking.

“Lovely meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2014

Lovely day out in orford, excellent lunch had at the jolly sailor, the service was great and friendly, they are dog friendly and even provided a treat for Oscar. Large portions, we called our fish n chips, whale and chips as so big.
