We stayed here for 2 nights to play golf as well as visit the locality. I had tried to book other places but none looked as good or weren't available so I went with the TripAdvisor feedback despite the rather high price for B&B. Well, it was delightful! The place is charming; our garden room was comfortable with a nice terrace to soak up the evening sun with a suitable sundowner. The village of Orford is also a lovely environment. The hotel breakfast was excellent - superb fresh fruit salad and juices followed by a great cooked breakfast with breads & continental pastries. We elected to have dinner on the first night and this was good enough to return for the second evening when the menu had advanced a little to give returnees a few new choices.
The staff were excellent, making sure all your guest needs were met without being over attentive. It was this style of unpretentious attention to the most important aspects of the stay that led to my comment above. Although it cost me more than some similar places I left feeling well satisfied. Many guests appear to return and, you know what, I reckon we will too as it was so good, just like it said on the tin.

Room Tip: Our garden room was fairly large, comfortable & peaceful and faced the evening sun.

So glad you like our tin! Thank you very much indeed for taking a chance on us. We are delighted everything came up to standard, from the village itself to breakfast, dinner and our staff. I know we are not cheap but I am pleased you recognised we are good value. (It's very difficult to provide good service at low cost, because wages are the biggest overhead and we like to pay our nice staff properly!) We hope we will be able to welcome you back in the future and thank you again for your very kind review.

Returned last week from another break at the C&C, never fails to hit the spot for us in respect of everything that matters to us: delicious food and drink; most pleasant authentic staff; comfortable rooms; delightful setting and ambience; enjoyable walking on the doorstep; and places of interest nearby. As a retired couple we explore other places, but there is something special about the C & C that always draws us back.

Room Tip: We have tried most of the house rooms and the apartment, we enjoy them all, but for good value Room 7 (better house double), although a little small, with its view of the estuary and the castle, suits us very well.

My wife and i wanted a quiet weekend away from the busy manic usual life and the Crown and Castle along with the rest of Orford was just what we were looking for. The location was perfect and a stroll to the quay and gentle pub crawl back was ideal. The accommodation was good especially the terrace off our garden room was great for a late afternoon glass of bubbly. The only issue was a misunderstanding on the time we were expected for dinner and felt a little rushed, however Ruth went out of her way to come see us and explain that dinner is served until 9-00 only due to the requirements of the majority of cliental and to our astonishment offered a refund, outstanding service and understanding her customers. We'd definitely return and be on time for dinner. No hestitation in recommending this quaint, slightly quirky but lovely hotel / restaurant with rooms. Thanks for the memories!

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your nice review. We are glad you enjoyed the village, service and accommodation. And, thank you, too, for your understanding about our restaurant hours. It's not that we want to rush anyone, we just get worried that even when we are full the restaurant tends to empty out by 9pm-ish and it doesn't feel hospitable for guests to be eating alone. It's probably because of the fresh air and all the walking, but our guests – young and old – tend to keep early hours even in the summer. Anyway, we look forward to welcoming you back, and thank you again.

On what has now become an annual weekend away to celebrate my Wife and Lab's joint birthday we have become very spoilt in the locations which we choose. This year was no exception. Even though we travel with our dog, we expect a high level of comfort and quality. Even though these rooms appear to be played down in reviews and their description, I could not fault ours. There are a small handful of rooms that allow dogs, the Garden rooms, which are staggering distance downhill from the main hotel (we had room 28). Sat out on the small patio area in the sun was fantastic, the room itself very comfortable with everything we needed. It was decorated well and clearly looked after. The bathroom felt modern and was of excellent standard in both feel as well as cleanliness, no mouldy silicone here!
From arrival to departure the service was impeccable. I cannot thank you all enough for making us all feel very welcome. The service was friendly and professional. We never wanted for anything and yet never felt crowded, not an easy feat. Orlando our black lab was treated like one of the customers which is important to us. We had a dog friendly table which was quite private which suited us down to the ground.
The standard of food and drink lived up to the reviews, we loved all of it, even Orlando who had special dog cookies in the room and treats from the staff in the restaurant! The fully a la carte breakfast should be the benchmark for all hotels.
There was no shortage of things to do, plenty of things in walking distance of the hotel but also plenty of things within a short drive, I can highly recommend Snape Maltings and the forest if you fancy a short drive out. The public footpaths leave most others we have used to shame, they are wide, well maintained and have stunning views, starting at the crown and finishing at the castle next to it is perfect. We can't wait to go back!

Well, I am glad your wife came first in the birthday list!!!! (It's all right, I know that in an emergency my husband would save Teddy before me – dog owners understand these things!)
Anyway, what can we say, except a big thank you for such a wonderful report on the Best Garden rooms, cleanliness and the quality of our food. (So glad you appreciate having an a la carte breakfast rather than a tired buffet. It does mean there can be a little delay on a busy morning but at least the food is worth eating.)
We are also really pleased that you and Orlando enjoy the local area so much and really take advantage of the peaceful, beautiful walks. Thank you again, and we hope to welcome you all back soon.

The fact that the 'Hotel Advisor' owns & runs the C&C probably raises expectations unrealistically…but neither the diner nor Ms Watson need to worry because eating at the hotel is a really good experience at all levels.
A very friendly welcome and confident welcome will tell you that you are in good hands from the start. The pleasant, informal but professional staff are very keen to ensure you have all you want. The clever menu (almost everything is available in small or larger portions) and includes a mixture of Italian and British style dishes from Frito Misto Mare, linguine con granchio and carpaccio to steak & kidney pie and kidneys with mushrooms! All presented very prettily and correctly cooked with a deft touch. Local staples such as oysters are always available and puddings are similarly attractive and interesting. The wine menu is nicely varied with a good range for all tastes and pockets.
A very relaxed place to enjoy nice food in the delightful old-world charm of Orford - we'll soon be back and next time make it an overnight stay….

Room Tip: Sorry - only saw the restaurant this time but will definitely check out the rooms next…..

I don't think I am ever going to slough off the Hotel Inspector sobriquet despite it being at least 7 years since I presented the series!! I have always considered myself an hotelier/food writer first and foremost, but such is the power of the small screen. Anyway, back to the point: a million thanks for your very kind review. We are really delighted that you liked the menu and enjoyed our food so much And thank you, too, for the praise for our nice, young staff. Of course, Orford is always the star turn as you point out. So, yes, please do stay on your next visit – I don't think you will be disappointed.
