Had an overnight stay to meet up with some friends and found the Hotel to provide excellent food and a lovely room. The building is beautiful and full of character and the grounds are enormous; plenty of room for a relaxing walk and ready access to the river banks. The only thing that let it down was the apparent lack of a gardener to tidy up the patio area and plant up the wide variety of planters, borders and pots. A few flowers and a bit of weeding would have turned a lovely area to sit into a fabulous one. However, we have stayed at lots of similar sorts of hotels all over the country and this definitely ranks along with the best, particularly in the food& menu quality - all four of our party commented that we had trouble picking a meal as every choice on the menu appealed. We didn't find the service as wonderful as some of the reviewers on this site, but it was OK and nothing less than the levels of service experienced in other British Hotels. Generally, for the price, you won't go wrong with this hotel.
