“Old fashioned charm.”
Reviewed 20 August 2014

This was our 2nd visit and we still love it. It has a lovely old fashioned charm that we find so welcoming. The building is beautiful, the staff are friendly and attentive and although I have seen other reviews bemoaning the dated decor, for me this merely adds to the relaxed feel of the place. To modernise would destroy the character of this charming old lady. All meals we have eaten over the two visits (including bar snacks and formal dining) have been of very good quality and the afternoon tea, although rather pricey, is an absolute must! The views from both the dining room and the lounge are stunning, the bar area is comfortable and stylish. If the weather is good there are also some lovely walks. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We hope to return again soon.

Room Tip: If you desire a quiet room, as we did, then request one at the time of booking. The staff were very...

Many thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us on TA and for the 4 star score. It is often difficult to recreate a first stay at a place so it was very pleasing to read your comments. Your comments will be passed on to the whole team whom I am sure will appreciate the read as they do work hard to keep our guests happy. We hope to welcome you back to the Branston Hall again, and as a thankyou gesture we will be happy to discount our best available rate to you by a further 15%. We stayed here on a Sunday evening and having travelled 4 hours we were ready for the bar and dinner. We were really looked after. The food was excellent. I thought it very well prepared and the flavours wonderful. We had a drink in a large sitting room which overlooked the grounds, in comfortable armchairs into which I sank gratefully. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was large, so plenty of room for us. I hate rooms that are small and you feel you are on top of each other. This room was the very opposite. Warm and quiet. We didn't have time to enjoy the other facilities, eg, pool as we had to leave the next morning but I would stay here again.

Had an overnight with a friend. We had excellent service from the moment we arrived and this continued throughout our stay. The hotel is beautiful. Be sure to ask about its history as it is very interesting. Reasonably priced drinks at the bar. We enjoyed breakfast but did not have an evening meal. Speaking to another guest, we were told that the evening meal had been excellent. there have been some great value two night stays advertised on one of the 'deal' sites which included breakfast and evening meal. There is not so much to do around the hotel, There is a pub close by but we just had one drink there. I would recommend this hotel to those that the facilities suit. It has a small pool area with sauna and whirlpool.

This hotel is in a grand building in spacious grounds but needs investment in the internal decor, staff training and a new kitchen team which is trying too hard and failing.

Lincolnshire has excellent produce so don't overcook it and don't let the chef think he is French when he isn't, "keep it simple stupid" should be the mantra. There is a reason the restaurant only has 2 rosettes (and you get 1 just for having a restaurant!) it simply doesn't deserve 3. Bringing 2 boiled eggs for breakfast without a spoon on the plate is a schoolboy error and as for taking our drinks order as we enter the breakfast room, having to remind another waiter after 5 minutes and then a third one after 20 by which time we have our cooked food on the table, simply isn't good enough. Then you bring us a pot of tea for 2 when the order was for one of earl grey and one of breakfast tea. You are shambolic amateurs and not at all a team.

Chuck all the furniture away, get an interior designer in and start again. Take a look at, say, the Malmaison chain or 42 The Calls, for how to do things properly.

Free wifi is great but why are you tracking everyone's usage by giving out invididual login and password data, and handwriting all the codes whereby it is hard to tell a "d" from a "cl" and a 0 from an O? Given that you don't have any near neighbours you could simply open the wifi router and save all guests a heap of login bother.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else in Lincoln proper

The hotel is a lovely old building with pretty views. The lobby and bar area are particularly nice but the rooms are dated and need a re-vamp. The shower in our room was not good , it took ages to regulate the temperature and it wasn't very powerful. The double bed was two singles pushed together that squeaked a lot. Basic range of tea and coffee in the room, I had to ask for peppermint tea bags to be brought up. The restaurant in the hotel was expensive and the food was not bad. There are hardly any decent restaurants in the area though so you're probably better off eating there. The service was good and the pool and hot tub were free to use and clean. I think overall it just needs updating, not a bad stay.

This is simply a gorgeous place to be. Friendly staff, super rooms, and the pool is just lovely. Excellent food too. I enjoyed mackerel with bacon and spinach to start with, followed by pork belly in a pea veloute. We then had Irish coffees in one of the very comfortable sitting-rooms. I thoroughly recommend a visit.
