We arrived at Krabi airport, and a driver was there for our transfer. I would not normally mention this, however in this case, the two hotels that we subsequently stayed at in the area were not so efficient!

When you arrive at the Cha Wan, it rather seems to be in the middle of nowhere! However, a short explore reveals it to be within walking distance of the main part of Ao Nang. As mentioned in other reviews, the hotel is small, but very sweet. The gardens are very lush and pretty, the pool is small but does the job (plus good poolside showers). The staff are friendly without being pushy in any way. Breakfast was very good and the lovely lady who served us very quickly got to grips with the fact that there was no way we could eat all that was provided, so just brought us what we asked for!

Our room was very large and comfortable, with a GREAT bed. Robes, slippers, daily water, tea/coffee, hairdryer and umbrellas all provided (the latter being very useful at this time of year!) We had a big terrace area, on which there were three beautiful but rather uncomfortable wooden lounge chairs - however there were plenty of cushions in the room, which helped enormously.

We don't at all expect that everyone in the world ought to know how to speak English, however having travelled a bit now in SE Asia, we were very surprised generally in Thailand by how few people speak English reasonably well, in comparison with other neighbouring countries. However, the lady on recepation at the Cha Wan speaks very good English indeed, and was most helpful with all of our requests.

Being the start of the monsoon season, it rained pretty much every afternoon, sometimes well into the evening. As a result, there were quite a few mosquitos around, and the hotel sprayed our room upon request, and lit coils on the terrace when we were there late one evening. There were books available to guests in several languages, and TV, with limited channels, in the room.

Unfortunately, we did not like Ao Nang at all (clearly, this has nothing to do with the hotel!). I can't see us wanting to return there, however if we did, we would stay at the Cha Wan again without hesitation.

Myself and partner stayed 12 nights at Cha Wan we initially booked 8 nights and extended because it was so good. It is a small 10 room hotel about 10 minutes walk out of Ao Nang resort, but its a slight downhill walk and is really pleasant. Getting back takes a minute or two longer or get a TukTuk for 40 baht. Hotel really clean, rooms large and probably the most friendly staff I have ever encountered. Nothing was too much trouble and they really cared. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good priced but really nice hotel. If we get back to Ao Nang we will book again. Breakfast was really good, they will bring it to your own terrace if you wish, and they even provided towels to take out for the day. No negatives.

Room Tip: Some rooms are close to the road, and you can hear traffic, not a real problem but if you like break...

I visited Ao Nang in November and you can imagine that if I still remember to write about this hotel then how great the experience might have been. I was looking to find a suitable place in Ao nang to stay which was neither in the main market area nor too far so that we could just walk down there. After sorting out a long list of hotels I finally shortlisted this beautiful hotel which definitely gets my recommendation for anybody who is looking for a peaceful yet engaging place with all the possible facilities. The only drawback I can think of was absence of Gym :) but who really wants that in Ao Nang..... THUMBS UP FROM MY SIDE!!
Search for the online package on their website and you wont be disappointed by what all you can get in that.

We were really pleased to find this Thai style resort. Just 10 rooms and it was perfect.
The rooms are large as is the bathroom. Lovely terrace to sit out on. and you can have your breakfast delivered there each morning- wonderful start to the day.
Everything clean and well equipped.
The staff are very helpful and friendly. The small pool great for cooling off.
In a great location for relaxing away from Ao Nang. We extended our stay.

A few restaurants nearby. About 10 minute walk to the centre. You can catch a tuk tuk a few hundred yards from the hotel.
Laundry wasn't great here. Go to the nearest supermarket as you turn right from the hotel. Their laundry was better.

Room Tip: All rooms appear to be great.

We only stayed here for a couple of nights as part of an excellent island discovery package put together by Andaman Adventures, but we wished we had stayed longer – we are regular visitors and when we come back we will stay here again, but next time for 4 or 5 nights. We didn’t book long this time as we didn’t fancy Ao Nang, which we had thought would be too busy for us, but in fact we really liked Ao Nang, it was a welcome break from all the super-chilled out islands we stayed on, much nicer than Phuket, kind of like a middle ground between Phuket and the southern islands, where you can grab a beer and watch the hustle and bustle while your other half shops. I don’t think we would have enjoyed spending our whole holiday in Ao Nang, as we loved the southern islands that our travel agent included in our itinerary and we would not have wanted to miss out on those.

The Cha Wan really hit the ticket for me, as I like smaller, quiter resorts – I really hate the concrete corridor monstrosities that have all but taken over Phuket. Our agent got us an upstairs room away from the road next to the resort, so we had a breeze and peace and quiet, no road noise at all, which is quite important, as this seems to be the biggest complaint about this hotel. The breakfast was delivered to our balcony each morning (having an upstairs balcony is way more private). The Thai décor of the rooms is very attractive – traditional, which is nice to still see, as so many Thai hotels are becoming like Benedorm behemoths these days. It is an easy walk into town, and cheap to take a tuk tuk back again.

Room Tip: It's important to get an upstairs room away from the road, recommend you book with Andaman Sky...

We had a lovely 5 night stay here at the end of March. The staff is lovely, as are the rooms, nice and spacious and everything you would need including tea and coffee making facilities. Comfy bed, effective AC, nice balcony. We enjoyed breakfast, but ate lunch (thai food) here on 3 occasions and that was really excellent. The rooms do smell a bit damp but not dirty damp and they place pot Pourri about the place to help with this. If you're expecting 5 star you will be disappointed but if you want good clean friendly accommodation, nice pool, and away from the bustle this is ideal. Is a small place so mainly couples staying, no families and kids taking over the pool!!! Perfect for us. Staff speak good enough English for us but then we are not very demanding guests and are generally pleased so long as we believe staff are trying their best to please and help; which we found to be the case at the Cha Wan. Great value and good standard for the price, Would recommend.

We didn't think much of ao nang as it was a bit to commercialised but the intel itself was lovely. At far end up a road about 15 minute walk, totally tranquil inside. The rooms are lovely with huge bathrooms and very dark and cool inside. The breakfast was lovely, staff were fantastic and pool was small but sufficient.
Lovely!
