We found Cha Wan on agoda.com and after checking reviews on other sites, took the plunge. We were not disappointed. The rooms are incredibly spacious - the bathroom is like a palace and there is a separate toilet room and shower room. The private verandah with table and chairs was great for lounging around , and food at the restaurant tasty though more expensive, of course, than what you pay for the same at one of the cheaper eateries in town or the dirt cheap street vendors.

Thumbs up to free, unrestricted WiFi (we did our research well, as many other places only allow one device per room) and staff were always friendly and helpful. In response to other reviewers complaining about the distance to the beach, it's an easy walk and we enjoyed browsing in the shops and getting some exercise after all that delicious thai food!

Only drawback is the hot water system which literally runs hot and cold...it did make bath time a bit of a chore so if Cha Wan could fix that I'd give it five stars. BTW fish ponds commented on in earlier reviews have been cleaned beautifully!

I liked my stay here. Unfortunately we came during a time with bad weather and the rooms and verandah were good enough to sit at without going stir crazy. We also had to eat at the restaurant a couple of times because weather was so bad we couldn't walk into town. Not the best Thai foodie had but pretty good. The room size was quite big. Bathroom was huge although hot water was a bit hit and miss. I would also suggest asking for a room away from the road as bikes and cars going up the hill were quite noisy through the night.

They have also obviously listened to reviews about cleaning the koi ponds as they were redoing and cleaning the front ones during our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back away from the road.

A search for Hotels in Ao Nang/Krabi shows up several tempting options, particularly in the low season when everything seems well-priced. Cha Wan looked a little different from the big hotels with a 140 rooms and multi-storyed buildings. On a whim, I booked our first 2 nights of our total 5 nights at Cha Wan via Agoda. Having got there, I realized it was the best decision we took.

Cha Wan is a delightfully private and homely property. Just 10 rooms (you could say villas), a cute little pool, excellent house-keeping, trees all around and a wonderful serene atmosphere to make your nest in Ao Nang. We had imagined this peace and calm would only be found at Railey or a quieter beach. Having been to Railey and most places around Krabi, Cha Wan was hands down the best place to stay.

Naturally we extended our stay for 3 extra nights directly with the hotel and they made us "an offer we could not refuse!!" The kitchen serves some delicious fare and some of the best food we ate in Krabi was at Cha Wan in the comfort of our patio/verandah. Some reviewers have mentioned insects, mosquitoes etc - keep in mind that Krabi has dense vegetation and Cha Wan has a good green cover as well. However, if you take some basic measures - (Keep Room Sliding Doors Closed at all times) then you won't even notice them- we didn't - not once in 5 days and it was raining every day!

The wi-fi was FREE and even though we used 5 devices between the two of us on the network, it never gave us problems. The construction is all wood and concrete so may be there are a few dead zones, which the previous reviewer may have encountered.

We have CW 10 (which if you have the option you must ask for) - it is away from the road, a stream runs by the side and is an idyllic setting for a Krabi vacation.

The rooms are huge, the loos are spectacular - yes hot water has a mind of its own - but no biggie for us. The all wooden interiors and the high sloping roof, give you the experience of living in an authentic Thai Villa - I will take that over a key card access Big Chain Hotel any day of the year!!

What the staff lack in English language communication they make up with enthusiasm and attitude. We faced no major difficulties and the little communication exercises added to the exotic feel of visiting foreign lands and interacting with other cultures.

TIP: If you are comfortable handling a motorbike, rent one for your stay, it gives you phenomenal mobility, access to all the beach fronts, shops and nearby getaways. The roads are wonderful and traffic is peaceful - just follow the rules and don't try needless daredevilry.

The hotel can arrange this for you. You will need to deposit your passport with them, but that isn't much of a problem, from our experience. Bikes are not insured though, that is generally the case everywhere in Krabi.

If you are looking for an authentic experience in Krabi/Ao Nang - pick Cha Wan without hesitation.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the road are the best. Ask for CW 10 if available.

The location is quite far from the main street. Need to walk almost 15 mins - one way.
Poor WIFI coverage. Room size is big.
Don't expect very clean room as it is inside greenery and has a lot of ants, mozzies, etc.
The water heater is crazy. It went hot - cold - hot - cold.... during a bath.

We arrived at Krabi airport, and a driver was there for our transfer. I would not normally mention this, however in this case, the two hotels that we subsequently stayed at in the area were not so efficient!

When you arrive at the Cha Wan, it rather seems to be in the middle of nowhere! However, a short explore reveals it to be within walking distance of the main part of Ao Nang. As mentioned in other reviews, the hotel is small, but very sweet. The gardens are very lush and pretty, the pool is small but does the job (plus good poolside showers). The staff are friendly without being pushy in any way. Breakfast was very good and the lovely lady who served us very quickly got to grips with the fact that there was no way we could eat all that was provided, so just brought us what we asked for!

Our room was very large and comfortable, with a GREAT bed. Robes, slippers, daily water, tea/coffee, hairdryer and umbrellas all provided (the latter being very useful at this time of year!) We had a big terrace area, on which there were three beautiful but rather uncomfortable wooden lounge chairs - however there were plenty of cushions in the room, which helped enormously.

We don't at all expect that everyone in the world ought to know how to speak English, however having travelled a bit now in SE Asia, we were very surprised generally in Thailand by how few people speak English reasonably well, in comparison with other neighbouring countries. However, the lady on recepation at the Cha Wan speaks very good English indeed, and was most helpful with all of our requests.

Being the start of the monsoon season, it rained pretty much every afternoon, sometimes well into the evening. As a result, there were quite a few mosquitos around, and the hotel sprayed our room upon request, and lit coils on the terrace when we were there late one evening. There were books available to guests in several languages, and TV, with limited channels, in the room.

Unfortunately, we did not like Ao Nang at all (clearly, this has nothing to do with the hotel!). I can't see us wanting to return there, however if we did, we would stay at the Cha Wan again without hesitation.

Myself and partner stayed 12 nights at Cha Wan we initially booked 8 nights and extended because it was so good. It is a small 10 room hotel about 10 minutes walk out of Ao Nang resort, but its a slight downhill walk and is really pleasant. Getting back takes a minute or two longer or get a TukTuk for 40 baht. Hotel really clean, rooms large and probably the most friendly staff I have ever encountered. Nothing was too much trouble and they really cared. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good priced but really nice hotel. If we get back to Ao Nang we will book again. Breakfast was really good, they will bring it to your own terrace if you wish, and they even provided towels to take out for the day. No negatives.

Room Tip: Some rooms are close to the road, and you can hear traffic, not a real problem but if you like break...

I visited Ao Nang in November and you can imagine that if I still remember to write about this hotel then how great the experience might have been. I was looking to find a suitable place in Ao nang to stay which was neither in the main market area nor too far so that we could just walk down there. After sorting out a long list of hotels I finally shortlisted this beautiful hotel which definitely gets my recommendation for anybody who is looking for a peaceful yet engaging place with all the possible facilities. The only drawback I can think of was absence of Gym :) but who really wants that in Ao Nang..... THUMBS UP FROM MY SIDE!!
Search for the online package on their website and you wont be disappointed by what all you can get in that.
