This hotel was the highlight of our holiday - it was simply beautiful. The bedrooms/suites were in 5, 2 storey, Thai style buildings. We had a room on the top floor, which was just delightful, very romantic and very private. The bedroom was extremely large with wooden paneling, a huge bed and on our arrival the staff had folded the towels like two swans which they had placed on the bed with rose petals. The bathroom was quite luxurious with a hugh bath and a separate shower room. The toilet was also separate from the bathroom. There were two large wardrobes, tea/coffee making facilities and a large TV with an extensive selection of programmes and a DVD player. There was also free wireless internet connection in our room. Breakfast was served on our large terrace every morning.

Breakfast was fantastic. There was a large choice and we ended up with fruit juice, fruit, muesli and yogurt, scrambled eggs, banana pancakes, croissants and toast and coffee - a great way to start the day. We also had dinner in the very romantic restaurant which overlooked the garden and pool - the food was excellent.

This is probably one of the most romantic hotels I have stayed in. Apart from our fabulous room, there was a small swimming pool set in a lovely garden with fish ponds and water features. At night the pool and the entrance to the hotel were floodlit, making the setting very attractive.

We also enjoyed excellent cocktails by the pool at sunset. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel is very efficiently run.

I would highly recommend this hotel. It is located in a quiet road off the main Ao Nang road and some 8 minutes to the beach if you are walking. There are also some fabulous restaurants within a 1-2 minute walk - particularly Carnivore Steak and Grill and the Sayawadee Thai Restaurant.

It depends what are you looking for… I was very happy with the stay as it suited my needs perfectly, but thing it’s better I give some explanation first :)

Krabi/Ao Nang was a part of our trip when I planed a lot of activities- every day different tour, ect. Not really too much time for leisure on the beach, as honestly- I do not thing Ao Nang is the best place for “the beach time”- almost “on the street”, too much crowd, too many speed boats and zero romantic atmosphere as long as you don’t go to more hidden beach (preferably by a boat). What Ao Nang is really great for- is a location for the trips and breath taking views. That’s way I was looking for a nice quiet hotel which will have a spacious, comfortable rooms, will be clean and quiet, not situated on a crowded street, but still a walking distance from all the restaurants, shops ect.

For such a plan Cha Wan was an excellent place to be. The resort is very small, but the rooms are very comfortable, have a lot of space and are well designed. Big and comfortable bed was very nice decorated for our arrival. They serve a breakfast on your big terrace, so you have a menu you can choose a set from. Don’t be afraid to choose the thai breakfast-a part of it- Pad Thai was very good. After testing their American and Thai version, we were than ordering a mixed version: Pad Thai + banana pancakes (exchanged from the kind of a rice soup) – no problem if you ask :)

The hotel is a walking distance from the main Ao Nang street, but you can always take a tuk tuk- they park just near by the hotel.
Stuff was friendly and helpful (after coming from Raffles Singapore we were a bit spoiled by their service, so we found Cha Wan’s a bit poor at first, but as a general I think it’s still more than acceptable), but be aware- their English is faaar from perfect, so don’t expect you can have any more “advanced” conversation there. Don’t count you will be using a swimming pool either as it really small.

What else… if you’re there- go for a diner to Lae Lay Grill http://www.laelaygrill.com/ before the sunset- the view is just amazing! It’s very easy to get there from Cha Wan: getting out from the resort you turn right and go (200m?) until you see a small wooden kiosk on the left with a name of the restaurant and menu card. If you decide to go there- they will send a free of charge restaurant tuk tuk which will take you up to the restaurant, and if you request- can also take you back to the hotel free after the diner.
We decided to go for a package choosing Cha Wan which included 4 night accommodation, airport pick up, 1 set diner, massage, and two trips: by a speed boat to Phi Phi island with snorkeling and kayaking and elephant trekking. The massage was in an outside spa center (we got a transport as well) and it was just great. Also the trips were nice. If you need any details- I will be happy to give more details on that. In general I recommend this solution.

One more tip: ask for an upper floor room- they are more private in my opinion. We stayed at no. 10, which was the last from the street side, so very quiet.
As a summary: very good and worth to stay (also from a price perspective!) place if you want a comfortable and spacious room and be active being on Ao Nang. Do not recommend if you go with kids, or expect a kind of resort with a nice beach near by and a big swimming pool.

I have been to Cha Wan Resort for 4 nights very recently. It is a beautiful place with only 5 buildings with 2 rooms in each, so it basically has 10 rooms in total. Its a cozy little place which is extremely well designed. I loved it even more because it is so green inside, there's so many trees around it gives you a very secluded romantic feeling. There's 2 swimming pools in the middle surrounded by the 5 cottages. The rooms are HUGE with huge king beds, private balcony and a huge bathtub! I loved the bathroom there! The service is really good. They even provide breakfast at your private balcony which has such a romantic touch to it. Its a bit far from the beach (10 mins walk) but you would enjoy the walk since there's lots of shops on the way plus its really easy to just take a tuktuk to the beach (20 baht per person).

We even booked 4 island trips, kayaking tours through the hotel at a very cheap rate. It was an amazing stay and I would surely recommend this hotel to everyone. I would love to go back there again :)

The new Cha Wan resort is one of the few gems we have encountered in
Ao Nang/Krabi! It has only 5 guest houses with two rooms each, one on the ground floor, one on the first story. All rooms are very spacious, nicely decorated and the bath is awsome! Full with (partly plastic) flowers, shower and bath tube, lots of space and and and... We had a room on the first story and apart from the road and it was very quiet a night besides of the acceptable noise of air conditioning.

The resort itself is about 400 m from Beach road. You can easily walk there and decide to go to either of the beaches where you will find a lot of shops or go on a boat trip. The swimming pool is rather small but the resort is built in a way that you will find mostly a place in the shade around the pool which we found better than a huge pool and the sun burning you in just a few minutes...

Breakfast is included and comes with a broad choice. Best of it is that you can order it to be served on your terace/balcony. We have also tried the restaurant and the food was very good.

The hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful at all times!

Maybe some words about Ao Nang to complete this review: We would recommend it for a maximum of 3-4 days and you need to choose and book your activities carefully. Ao Nang is good for boat trips, diving and the few other packages that are offered everywhere the same and with pretty steep prizes compared to Thai standard... Ao Nang itself is not very attrative... Many shops, always with extraorbitant prices that you need to bargain down, arrogant and money-spoilt Thais and the usual indian taylors trying to sell you their badly sewed suites... All in all as you would expect it from Patong or Pattaya - unfortunately, it has reached Ao Nang obviously already. Most positive for us while not being on some tour was a taxi-trip to Krabi Town: Friendly people, normal prizes and piece while walking in the streets.

PS: Whenever buying something make sure you known what is the normal price and what is included or you might get some nice surprises (ours included even being threatened with a knife...).

This resort is small and intimate. The service is impeccable and friendly., I will stay here again on future travels. Only complaint is the bed was hard, but other than that it was great

After staying in Koh Pangan (Palita Lodge) we have booked Cha Wan Resort for 7 nights over New Year. Upon arrival we have received towel and welcome drink with smiley faces. Our room was absolutely lovely (decorated with petals as me have mentioned it’s our honeymoon). All rooms have all you need and more. Breakfast is usually served on you private balcony…it’s so romantic. All together there is 10 rooms, it feels small and cosy…very quiet, exactly what we were looking for. Food is fantastic and staff goes that extra mile for your wishes. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place to my best friends! If you looking for something nice and quiet with perfect service, this is your place. Check their offers. We got so many free things including our stay…2 x boat trip, elephant ride, massage, set dinner….We would definitely come back to Cha Wan if in Krabi (although not my favourite part of Thailand as it’s too commercial for us).
