“Lovely hotel but beware of construction work next door.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2011

The first room we stayed in was spoilt by constant noise from the construction site less than 20 metres from our room. Work stated at 8am and continued until 9pm.

The following morning I complained and was moved to a different room.

Hotel booked through it's own website at special low season rate. Beautiful, stylish rooms with Japanese theme. Bathroom was very special with separate bath and shower. Very comfortable bed and pillows. Pity unlimited wireless Internet not included in rate.

Do not think you could do better for price than what we paid.

Beware of tailor shop directly opposite hotel. I made the mistake of ordering several suits here before checking other tailor prices and paid about double the going rate. Usually a very savvy shopper but acted like a mug here! Also, some garments were not presses at the hems but had to accept as already paid and leaving area early the following morning.

Went on a thoroughly enjoyable island snorkelling day trip including Maya Bay. worth every baht paid. Just be aware of safety. The sea was very rough at one point and a lady got injured (cut and bruised) whilst being thrown about by waves on her seat. There was no first aid kit on board.

It is a great place for a short weekend break. The staffs are friendly and have been very helpful with our needs. Facilities wise, there is a nice swimming pool and a spa center. The packages offered are quite competitive compared to others. Personally, I prefer the coconut oil massage just opposite of the hotel where the price is also quite reasonable.

If you really want to go around this place, you can always opt to rent a bike from the hotel. I find it cheap and more convenient to go to the Krabi town.

Although it is the low season, the resort does have it's own fair share of tourists around. The resort is a good 5-10mins walk away from Ao nang Beach, and to add on, staying near Ao nang Beach might be a better option compared to Krabi town, where it seems little much to do. Hotel transfer by the resort was quoted at 200baht/pax, one way. Free Wifi usage was limited to an hour each for myself and spouse so we were not able to use them excessively, unless one is willing to pay more for 7 days of unlimited usage. Morning breakfast was decent, menu was changed on alternate days but we still see the same sausages and hams for the many days we were there. We had a pool view room, fortunately, far enough from construction works on the building next door. Overall, we were satisfied with the resort, especially for the price we paid. On a side note, Krabians are mostly lively and helpful people, and they remained as such even after some hard bargaining. Last pointer, don't forget to visit Krabi souvenir shop before you leave for some last min shopping of the local delights and souvenirs. It will be good if hotel transfer could include this visit en route to the airport.

Room Tip: Request for a room away from the construction site next door, if possible.

It's not right in the heart of Ao Nang but it's a good thing too. Not too far away, just a short tuk tuk ride away or you can walk there too, there are roadside stalls, shops and restaurants along the way. Near to a seafood restaurant called Wang Sai Seafood which serves decent fare and some massage parlours outside as well. Convenience store opposite the hotel, but prices are slightly higher than 7/11. Staff are friendly and helpful, room service fare was ok only. Pool is clean and would love to swim there more if there was time. Would recommend this place!

Beautiful hotel with a stunning swimming pool! Had a bedroom overlooking the swimming pool with a nice sized balcony and comfy chairs to relax in. The bedroom was beautifully decorated and furnished. Excellent coffee! Room walls were pretty thin and unfortunately had some rather loud neighbours.

Airport transfer: Take the airport bus. They have a counter at the airport.150 baht per person, one way to hotels at Ao Nang beach area. Different pricing for other areas. For the return ticket, buy it at the this agent in front of Ananta Burin, they have the same bus for the same price.

You can take the taxi or mini van at a higher cost - usually about 1000 baht (cheapest rate) for 2 ways, 2 persons. Some will charge you higher.

Hotel Arrival: We had earlier sent the hotel a couple of remarks about our room via the online booking. Upon arrival, they brought us to a wonderful room with all of our request granted. How sweet! Checking in was a breeze!

Hotel Room: Very clean and pretty, great king sized bed with the usual amenities. Loving the room! They have pool accessed rooms as well.

Construction site: There is a construction of a new hotel just 30 cm beside Ananta Burin. The drilling works goes on between 9 to 6pm. Ananta Burin has 2 hotel buildings, request for the one away from the construction and you won't hear a thing. Besides, who stays in the hotel the whole day when you are in Krabi?!

TV: A limited mix of English and Thai channels but it's good enough. The only news channel is BBC.

Breakfast: International spread of about 7 to 8 dishes only with different menu served each day. We wanted to dine out to try the local cuisines so the limited variety of dishes didn't matter to us. The food was tasty though. You can order room service as well. We ordered a burger, averagely yummy!

Hotel laundry: Good and cheap! (i.e. 60 baht for jeans) Awesome job done. But you can get a cheaper rate at the laundry shops outside as they charged something like 100 baht for 1kg of clothes! There's several laundry shops at Ao Nang.

Hotel Pool & sun-tanning bay: Love the sun-tanning decks, you get ultimate direct sunlight! I came back 5 shades darker! Awesomeness! There's a pool bar with a variety of drinks. We drank Singha or Chang! What else! Haha

Sundry Shop in front of hotel: You can get toiletries, cigarettes, tibits and drinks or any other knick knacks from here. They sell alcohol too.

Hotel Internet: They have 4 terminals for guest to use. The connection is not fantastic. Only good for short searches. You get disconnected pretty often.

Hotel Location: Really, it's not too far from Ao Nang or Noppharat Thara beach at all! It's just about 10 mins walk or 2 mins tuk tuk (20 baht per person per way) to either location plus there are shops along the way, life's good. We didn't had any problems finding our way at all. Just walk or tuk tuk your way!

Ao Nang beach - the happening area with a whole row of hotels, restaurants, shops, hairdresser, massage parlors, MacDonalds, Starbucks, Subway, pubs, etc
Noppharat Thara beach - quiet, only a handful of hotel, restaurants and shops.

Night Market 1 - Noppharat Thara has a night market every Wed evening (info from the awesome staff!), you gotta take the tuk tuk there (200 baht, 2 ways for 2 persons). It's really dark at night plus you will pass by some dark empty area along the way so ensure you have your tuk tuk driver waiting for you when you are done else there'll be NO transport back to your hotel. You can get local food and fashion there.

Night Market 2 - Krabi Town: Go there on Fri, Sat & Sun from 5pm to 10pm for their street market. Food, gifts, clothes, etc. You can take a tuk tuk there for 600 baht (2 ways, 2 persons). The tuk tuk driver will usually give you about an hour to shop and he'll wait for you at the same pick up point. Do bear in mind that these drivers will not be able to earn any money during the 1 hr he is waiting for you so try to be nice and not let him wait tooo long! Anyway, there isn't really much to shop at Krabi Town except for the departmental stores which sells local fashion.

Tuk Tuk: Look for this tuk tuk driver called Adol, he usually stations himself along Buri Tara (hotel beside Ananta Burin) with his other colleagues. He is very tan and wears a luminous yellow company vest (forgot co. name). He gave us good rates, we hired him when we needed to tuk tuk. We bought him fish soup for dinner at Krabi Town, nice dude! FYI - He is Muslim Thai.

Hotel Motorbike rental: The hotel provides this at 250 baht per day, You gotta top up petrol on your own. No license required to rent, woot!

Hotel Staff: All real nice. Get to know them better and u'll see how fun they are plus they'll tell you the little secrets about Krabi! I miss them all!!!! Note: Not all of them can speak English, only the ones at the reception can speak pretty good English. Remember to smile and at least learn to speak a few words of simple Thai to communicate with them.

Tours: You can find a whole lotta tour agents along Ao Nang beach, bargain for your tours and off you are to paradise! We did the Phi Phi island speedboat tour (1700 baht for 2, super entertaining guide called Alex! I am pretty you'll meet him if you take the Phi Phi Island tour), Island Safari (abt 2000+ baht for 2, can't remember) which consists of Elephant riding, water rafting and ATV! We cancelled the Tiger Cave Tour (1100 baht for 2) due to hardcore sun burnt and food poisoning (haha)

Roadside Stalls (+ Food Poisoning): Lesson learned - only eat them when they are prepared hot in front of you. DO NOT consume if the food has been left for a couple of hours with flies on it. We wanted to try and man we had our tummies in a limbo! Haha, it was an experience tho'. You don't try, you'll never know!

Doctor: We went to Dr Somboon located around Ao Nang beach to get medication for food poisoning (700 baht for consultation and 100 baht for medication). Ananta Burin has his contact. There are also many pharmacies located along Ao Nang if you wanna get any non-prescription medication and sun-tan/block lotion.

Language: Most of the tourist shop owners can speak English but the ones selling food by the road side don't. Learn to speak simple Thai to converse with them. (i.e. How much? = Nee Tow Rai?)

Ants: DO NOT leave any food unattended in the hotel room, ants attack real fast and they'll leave a trail which can be very frustrating to clean up! Put all unfinished food in the mini bar, this includes opened up potato chips or sweets!

Mosquitoes: There are mosquitoes everywhere and they'll bugged you once in a while, it's common so don't sweat on it!

Bargaining: I learned that the nice humble people of Krabi do not earn a lot of money so though I bargained for the best price most of the time, I do not go beyond a limit. They need to survive too for us to visit them!

It was an awesome holiday, we played hard, got sick, had the best chicken noodles (40 baht per bowl) by the roadside and made many wonderful friends whom we will look forward to visit again! Love Ananta Burin + Krabi!
