“Service was mixed, pool best part of Resort”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

We had just one nite and a long day to hang out at the Orchid Resort before catching our plane back to Bangkok from Krabi at 7 pm. Maybe because we were there only 1 nite, we got stuck in the front building over the restaurant with no view. When we asked about an upgrade, the desk said 500 baht and as we were already paying $58/nite we declined. Unlike most of our other hotels booked thru Agoda this one was not particularly interested in accommodating us. We hung out at the pool and noticed that while they were busy, there were plenty of rooms available that they could have alternatively accommodated us with in the main hotel area and not in the corner they put us in over the noisy restaurant.

The best part of the stay was the staff was willing to let us check our bags at noon at checkout and hang out by the pool until we left for the airport late afternoon. We slept on the beach chairs and that seemed to make up for the attitude we felt we had received from the front desk. Everyone else in the staff was pleasant. Front desk reception could use a tune up. Rooms were clean and spacious, bathroom updated. Judy wish we had been given a better oom

Room Tip: Get a room around or overlooking the pool.

We visited Aonang beach at Krabi last 2 week for 4 days & 3 nights stay at Aonang Orchid. I choose this resort because of its comfort of staying near the beach street with convenient access to shops, restaurants and pharmacy. The other factor of choosing this resort is because some of its rooms have beautiful view.

Here is my review on Aonang Orchid Resort: -
Hotel Environment: The environment is not as grand as Aonang Villa but of cause it’s slightly cheaper which makes me choose this resort. The top floor deluxe pool view rooms only have cliff scenery view but we booked the grand superior with seaview which never notice that are almost facing the road but luckily is at the top floor.

Hotel Service & Staff: The staff service at the reception when we arrive is really bad. They charge my credit card once we arrive and then I requested to have a look at the deluxe room and intentionally to upgrade my room but was told that the room was double the superior which is Baht4800 during the non peak season which I feel so disappointed imagine the grand superior seaview is just Baht2000. I feel they are not sincere in business.

Room Comfort: The grand superior seaview is considering good except nearly facing the road but is not so bad after all as it is not so noisy from the road. We booked two rooms 2401 and 2402. The room 2401 is a twin bed room with good cliff view but the air cond a bit noisy. The room 2402 is facing the sea with king bed and the air cond is fine. I would recommend this grand superior room if the deluxe room is bad and double charges.

Room Tip: If you choose the grand superior seaview. Do not choose the room 2403 as it is near the road. I woul...

We loved the location of this hotel. It was not far from the "busy area", which gave good options for food, shopping, beach access, and generally getting around. The downsides of the hotel is that the rooms were outdated, the shower/tub sprayed everywhere when you take a shower and makes the bathroom soaked, and the staff were sort of "whatever" about you being there. The pool has a very unique view, which is fun to swim in, but the chairs were almost always occupied and when you swim around you almost feel like you are invading the pool bungalow's privacy. We stayed in a "sea view" room on the 3rd floor of the 1st building...the balcony is tiny and all you hear/see outside is the "crackle" of the power lines. Not worth the extra $$. It was a good value for the location, but there are newer properties that are more accommodating.

There are some negative reviews for Ao Nang Orchid but don't be swayed by a few singular bad experiences. The Orchid is one of the best value and best oasis's in a rapidly declining resort.

For starters the pool access villas are worth every baht. Clean, well equipped, big tv, efficient and quietish air conditioning, full signal FREE wif fi, room service and excellent friendly cleaners who make elephants out of the towels with flowers. Straight access from your big balcony into the lagoon pool and absolute peace and quiet away from the tat and bustle of Ao Nang strip. Can't make a comment on the main hotel rooms but the pool view ones must clearly be better than the "city" view ones. It's easy to see that maybe the non pool villa guests will rate lower on these reviews as inside the main hotel it's OK if a little functional.

Breakfast isn't great but it's decent enough and a fresh buffet. The breakfast room itself is big but uninspiring so if a sea view is important for your muesli then try elsewhere.

Ao Nang however is determined to level itself to the lowest common denominator. Every stall sells tat t shirts and trinkets, most bars are loud and for the lads. There are a few gems such as Tandoori Nights resturant which sells excellent Indian food, the street food stalls are still great value and Coconut Bar is friendly and maintains a chilled vibe. You won't struggle to eat and drink well and cheaply and of course it's a great stop off for travel to the islands. It'll soon slink into a Patong style no doubt.

If not for overall facilities, the Orchid for it's wonderful pool rooms is the best option in town. Everyone was unfailingly friendly and helpful and they'll even tell you to go over the road to do your laundry rather than pay their high prices. To those that come to slate it, well that's a mystery.

We hadn't planned I stay at this hotel as we were meant to be in koh phi phi but the boats were only in the morning. We were walk in bookings and asked if they had any rooms available. They were quite helpful and said yes 3000 baht. We then aske item had anything cheaper they said no so we were agreed to that. 5 minute later they said 2500 ao we managed to get 500 off without trying. Our room was amazing! The view was paradise with a pool as very thing. However your nt allowed to go in the pool until 8:30 which was gutting as we were leaving at 8:30.
Reception were very helpful with booking our boat tickets to phi phi and finding out the times of the boat and we also got a free breakfast buffet.

I would recommend this hotel to a family on holiday as there is a pool and you are right by the beach markets and shops.

My husband and I just hated this hotel. We decided on this hotel based on the numerous good reviews and considering they serve halal food. Checking in was alright but all went downhill after. The staff were NOT friendly and cold; no smiles, long faces, avoided eye contact, did not greet us everytime we bumped into them unless inititated, some completely ignored us! How rude! Breakfast was so-so, and mind you, you have to pour your own coffee/tea by yourself (other hotels serve you), rooms looked old and dull but at least they were clean, and they don't provide an iron unless you want to send your clothes for housekeeping which of course you have to pay for. I had to get another holiday wardrobe there. My husband and I aren't difficult people at all but because the staff were so unfriendly we just couldn't wait to check out. We just didn't feel welcome at all, to the point it nearly ruined our Krabi holiday. I was actually very tempted to speak directly with the hotel manager. Checking out also was an unpleasant experience for us and I actually heaved a sigh of relief when we left the premises. Luckily we booked another hotel for our last stay and the other hotel was absolutely wonderful. We've been to many cheaper hotels in Thailand but they are a far cry from this one in terms of service. For muslims who prefer halal serving hotels, there are abundant restaurants which are halal in Ao Nang within walking distance so don't make it a limitation for you when choosing a hotel. Location wise this hotel is good but they are many other hotels next door anyway, you'll be spoilt for choice. Base line, this hotel is just overrated. My husband and I will go back to Krabi but NEVER EVER to this hotel.

Room Tip: If you hate climbing the stairs, ask for rooms on lower levels.

Stayed 3 nights in a Pool Access Vila (p04), very nice room with a jacuzzi bathroom and separate rain shower room. Clean rooms, nice and comfy 200 cm wide king bed. Breakfast is standard thai, it's more than enough.
Best value for money in Krabi. We've seen people in the hotel (it was full) however one can still feel that the big pool is his, because of the fabulous design.
I will definitely come back here on my next visit to Krabi.
