“Beautiful Resort. Good Location.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2012

This was our first time to Krabi & we opted to stay at Krabi Resort, Aonang because they claimed that they are the only resort has its own private beach. We stayed in a Deluxe Hotel Room which was in a 3-storey building, and it didn't disappoint us. The room is new, big, clean, comfortable & with balcony. Hair dryer, safe, a small fridge are provided in the room. The bathroom is clean but after shower, the water is stagnant in the bathroom. There was no wifi in the room. We have to walk to the lobby to access the free wifi. There was no lights at the entrance of the hotel building, and it was so dark in the night time because it surrounded by the trees and limited street lights.

The resort area is big & they have many types of rooms around. Our room was near the main road whereas the restaurant was at the beach side. We have to walk 6-7 min everyday to have our breakfast in the restaurant, which is at the other end of the resort. The breakfast was no surprise. It served almost same food everyday (porridge, fried rice, vege, fried egg, fried noodles, sausage, ham, cornflakes). There is a small massage centre just right at the corner on the way to restaurant. The price is competitive with the massage centre outside the resort, but it closes at 9.00pm.

The location is great. There are lots of restaurants, shops, massage centre, travel agents just outside the resort. It is only 30-min walking distance to McDonalds with strolling speed. You can easily get taxi service along the beach side. But we walked everyday from resort to McD so that we can look around the shops there.

We have a great stay in Krabi Resort !

Out of the 3 places we stayed in Thailand the children liked the Krabi resort the best. It is a bit worn and cosmetically some things can be improved upon, but it feels comfortable and we just went with the flow . We found the staff lovely and the location was just great . It was lovely having breakfast looking over the ocean with all the boats coming and going . It was good being able to stroll down to the beach . It is a bit busy up in the main shopping strip and it was relaxing walking back into the grounds . There is a lovely older gentleman on the security gate , We got lots of waves from him though it was a bit hard chatting as neither of us were able to speak the others langage well . With young children we found it good being so close to everything . All the shops are outside the main gate . It was also very quiet when we were there being low season .

We stayed in interconnecting suite rooms in the hotel wing adjacent to the pool .
Our rooms were clean and spacious . Though we kept the curtains shut being on the ground floor which made the rooms a bit dark even with the lights on . It was very handy to be able to step out of the room and be just metres from the swimming pool .
However the floor got a bit wet from the kids walking in to use the toilet, Ming showed us the toilets underneath the pool which was a help in keeping our floors dry .

There was a kitchen in the suite but there were no crockery except for making a cup of tea . We just borrowed some from breakfast the next day so the kids could have a snack .
We had 2 bathrooms, one in each room . The main one with a large bath with the shower over the top . Very little water came out of the shower and was unusable .
We used the shower in the childrens room and it worked fine . When we ran out of toilet paper a lady popped over almost immediately with new supplies . The rooms were cleaned spotlessly everyday, those with children would know how they manage to leave crumbs everywhere .
You do get some complimentary water in the room but then there is other water also that isnt. They are labelled differently to help with the confusion . I think the water labelled with Krabi resort on it is free
The TV reception was a bit patchy and on some nights there was interference .

On the last day we moved into a day use room after checkout as we had a 7 pm flight from Krabi . We were placed in a room opposite the pool and charged 900 baht which we thought was quite reasonable . We spent the afternoon in the pool . We ordered pool service . 4 serves of chicken sandwiches and chips and 1 serve of chicken curry for 900 baht . The food was quite decent .

? Ming the lady at the pool was just lovely . She was behind the pool bar and also had the massage hut beside the pool . Ming fussed over the children. Every day a new pool toy would be produced for the children by Ming . Inflatable balls, snorkels and bogie boards . From the roof of Mings hut were many cards hanging from previous visitors to the Krabi resort . Everyday Ming would also give the children yummy fruit to try . One day it was watermelon, the next pineapple, then dragon fruit and rambutan .
Ming also did a great massage for around $10 . I had a facial, a foot scrub and a body massage . Hubby had a shoulder massage .

MIng just adores children and babies . On our last day a new family arrived with a baby , MIng just fussed over that baby and carried the baby around it was lovely to see .

We stayed for 4 nights at the Krabi resort . The breakfast buffet was reasonable . 3 out of the 4 breakfasts there were little red ants in some of the food . One morning in the cakes slices, the next in the yoghurt and the other in the fruit salad . Every time they were discovered an older chef would come out, quite upset and remove them promptly . Unlike other places we have stayed there were no covers on the food at the buffet .
There was an egg station, where a lovely young man would whip up an omelette for you . I felt a bit sorry for him one morning when a very overbearing indian lady demanded tabasco sauce . The poor fellow kept bringing back different sauces to please her but she just become more irate as they werent what she wanted . He was very polite considering .

There was a reasonable range of breakfast food for a midrange property . There was 2 types of yoghurt, fruits, 2 types of cereal . Three fruit juices, crossiants, a variety of toasts . Also a bamaree of 5 dishes of stirfrys and rices, plus the typical western hot breakfasts . But the view while eating breakfast was great looking out over the sea with the longtail boats zipping across .

The reception staff were helpful in letting me use an office computer to check a booking we had made . They had a tourist office as well . I went there to look at organising some tours, but I am not sure if it was a langage issue but I couldnt mangae to make a booking with them . There were many tourist shops in Ao Nang for tours . We found one almost opposite the Krabi resort who organised some tours for us .
The beachfront location is gorgeous with those huge soaring cliffs and emarald seas .

Couldnt fault the staff who were friendly and helpful . Ming is a real asset to Krabi resort . We all got hugs on the day we left . The property is a bit old, but really that didnt bother us . The pool was huge and clean . The location was great . The breakfasts were average . Yes we would stay here again . We paid a good price it was pay 3 stay 4 . So worked out at $160 a night for 5 with breakfast . We paid that to stay at a country motel in Australia that was a complete dive with cockroaches, mouse traps, no offstreetparking and hadnt been updated since the 1950s and there was no breakfast . Good value for money in Krabi .

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2012

We stayed at the Krabi Resort for 10 nights in bungalow F7. The resort itself is beautiful with beautiful gardens and a couple of very nice water features/falls.

We stayed in a deluxe garden bungalow. The bungalow itself was beautiful; large and clean. The bed was the biggest bed I have ever seen – it must have been the size of 2 doubles if not bigger; big and very comfortable. The bathroom was also very large with separate bath and large walk in shower. Air-con was brilliant and you can adjust the setting to what temperature you wanted. There is a safe in the room but you have to get the key from reception and if you lose it then you have to pay 2500 baht. Also in the room is a fridge stocked with beer, soft drinks and water (all of these must be paid for). There is a kettle with tea and coffee (no milk or whitener provided so take your own or buy it where you are there). Every day housekeeping would leave two bottles of complimentary water next to the kettle. These, as stated, are free but do not be confused – you have to pay for the water in the fridge (different bottle type). There is also a TV and a dressing table with hairdryer. The veranda had a sun lounger and 2 chairs and a table.

To be honest the rooms are large and the bungalows themselves are beautiful but they could use a little decorating.

The hotel does offer a laundry service but it is very expensive – if you go just out of the resort and turn right you will pay 50 baht per kg for wash and iron. Apparently irons are prohibited in rooms (as quoted from the guest book) so this came in handy.

You can make international calls from your room but it will cost you 70 baht per min – I found it cheaper to use my mobile.

The pool is large and fantastic with the water being beautifully warm. There are a lot of sun loungers and shade. You get your pool towels from the tour desk in reception. There is a pool bar which offers snack and the food we had was beautiful.

The restaurant itself was a bit of a letdown. The reason we chose this hotel was because of the photos showing the restaurant seating in the open and right next to the sea. When we got there there were only two tables outside and the rest were inside. So if those two tables were taken then you had to sit inside.

Breakfast itself consisted of Juice, tea, coffee, fruit (melon & pineapple), salad, yogurt, cereal, bread (toaster provided), croissants (if get there early enough), couple of Thai dishes, boiled eggs, fried eggs (you need to ask the chef for this), occasionally scrambled eggs, chicken sausages, mini pancakes and rice.

There was a beach bar but this was closed the whole time we were there.

The beach is beautiful and the sea is warm. Watch out for the jellyfish – there are lots. It does state in the guest book that if you get stung to contact reception straight away. The jelly fish are all along the beach not just at the Krabi resort.

The hotel does offer room service and it is advertised as being from 6am to 10pm. Unfortunately I was poorly one night and we couldn’t go out. We tried to order room service but reception were not very helpful and told us no. My husband went to reception and asked about the menu for room service (we have a 3 year old daughter and she needed food) and the reception staff called over the chefs – moments later 3 chefs appeared and surrounded my husband and told him no to the menu and offered him an alternate Thai menu with a couple of dishes on it. He ended up walking into town and getting food from there and bringing it back to the room for our daughter. What an inconvenience and what utterly unreasonable behaviour from the staff.

Talking of the staff – we find reception to be the heart of any hotel and unfortunately the reception staff here really do let the hotel down. We found them very very unhelpful but thinking now it’s probably because they didn’t understand English. It took ages to get the safe key as they didn’t understand what I was asking for. In the end I pointed to the lockers at the back of reception and it seemed to click. All the information about the hotel we got from the guest book and other hotel guests. The reception staff didn’t seem to want to be there and never smiled.

The night I was poorly and after the episode with reception and room service my husband called reception asking for a doctor for me. Within minutes we had a call from the town doctor who told me to go to the surgery. Reception got a tuk tuk for us and told the driver where to go. On this occasion the male member of staff in question was fantastic. Then a few days later my daughter fell whilst at breakfast and really banged her head on the floor – resulting in a large lump, a bloody head and a bloody nose. If we had been in the UK we would have taken her to the Doctors or A& E. We went back to our room and called reception to call the doctor. This time the reception staff did not understand what a doctor was. Offer about 6-7 minutes of my husband trying to explain that we needed a doctor the member of staff came to our room and immediately saw what we were asking for. We were then told no doctor, not open till 4pm. Thank goodness it wasn’t any worse.

The hotel is beautiful, the grounds are beautiful but I am afraid the reception staff would stop me from returning to this hotel.

The town is amazing with lots and lots of food places to choose from. We loved the Last Fishermans Cafe to watch the sun set on the evening before going to dinner – a truly amazing place. Also if you stand at the sea front at the hotel restaurant and look left you will see what looks like a little bungalow and then some restaurants. Walk through the front of the bungalow and you will see some steps go up and you will come to the first sea front restaurant – there are about 8-10 restaurants on the sea front here. They are amazing and another great place to see the sun set. Alternatively we ate lunch here most days enjoying a nice cold Chang (beer) and just watching the sea and the long tails.

We had an amazing time in Ao Nang – we loved it. It was just unfortunate about the reception staff at this hotel.

Though the hotel has private access to the beach and very good location, the hotel was old styled. it requires substantial maintenance. The offer free wifi but when you reach they charge for wifi in the room. They will ask you to come to the lobby to access free wifi. The location is good it is on the beach and near to market also. The Manager of restaurant was very good. he offered some vegetarian option to us as he was Buddhist and could understand the meaning vegetarian.

This was our first visit to Ao Nang and it didn't disappoint. We stayed in a garden view bungalow and it was lovely. Very private, reasonably large and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We especially loved the massage lady by the pool - she was a highlight for us. We would return to Krabi resort without hesitation. It is a great resort in a fabulous location.

This was our 3rd visit to Krabi Resort. Previous 2 we had stayed in detached cottages (E4 & E6) in March 2008 & July 2009 - large, massive bathrooms, bit dull lighting due to being surrounded by trees, had to ask for hairdryer, & room safe was charged for.

We choose this resort as it is close to PADI dive centres (1 was in the grounds - no longer operating, other (Kon-Tiki - excellent set up) right across the road).

This visit we had a Deluxe Hotel Room - Groupon had an offer & we paid just under GBP150 for 5 nights B&B. Room was the best we'd had there: light, comfortable, plenty of space for our kit & relaxing. Bathroom was a bit small, but more than adequate. Safe was FOC, & hairdryer was already in the room. 2 very comfortable beds with soft clean bedding. Lighting was good - but the ceiling light by the chairs & table was too low - kept banging heads on it despite moving the furniture around! The Resort is now a smoke-free hotel (no nasty smells anywhere). Our only negative was lack of drawer space for clothes: plenty of hangers & storage, but only 2 small drawers.

The room was in a good state of repair & we asked when it had been refurbished, only to be told that refurb is planned for this coming summer.

Bathroom - shower over bath. Bath & hand towels (soft & white) provided. 2 small bars of soap & shampoo provided.

Resort has eco-policy stating that any towels to be changed are placed in the bath. Each morning we placed 1 towel in the bath & all were changed. Room binder stated that if we wanted the bedding changing, to leave the binder on the bed. We thought we'd change after 3 nights but the bedding was changed every day.

We drive up to Ao Nang & there is a very large car park & we were able to pull up near to the room so we didn't have to lug our bags far on check out - there are bell boys who were very helpful.

Breakfast - disappointing! 5 breakfasts, 5 identical: limited western (ie chicken sausage, ham, eggs, french toast), abundant Asian, small selection of cereals, lots of fruits & yogurt, cold cuts, breads, pastries, juices, T&C. Had to get our own T&C - not served to the table. Was a conference on over the weekend & the folks went through the restaurant like locusts & then the food was not topped up, so going in after 9am gave limited selection. That said, what was there was fresh & of good quality & quantity.

The (have to pay for) wifi was down, but we walked round to Full Moon Bar (30-50m on past the steamroller) for reasonably priced beers (no food) & good rock music on their system. Lots of bars & restaurants have FOC wifi.

Ao Nang has lots of places to eat & drink, but all are very same-y. eg Italian does Thai, Thai does Italian, Swedish & Indian, Indian does Thai & Italian. All the market stalls sell the same repetitive stuff. Too many tailor touts: getting past them was a struggle & eventually we stopped being polite. All the tours go to the same places & seemed to involve rafting, canoeing & snorkling.

We did find E-San Seafood - a very good Chinese/Thai about 30m to the left of Kon-Tiki Divers - extensive menu & cheap Singha beer.

We have decided not to visit Ao Nang again - we went for the diving, now having done all the sites, but we found that just our of main season, the corals were bleached, visibility poor (OK, there had been storms) & little marine life. We have dived July here (in the low season) & saw better then. Ao Nang is expensive for diving, compared to many other places in SE Asia.

Stayed there March 2011... the property has a private beach and a pool. We were a group of 5 couples, and had fun generally. BUt Krabi as a town is a sleepy lil place, and hardly any night life. So you need your hotel to be good, as you'll spend a lot of time there.

We had cottages which were nice... huge beds and nice big bath. Rooms were nice, but the resort, grounds and everything needed a bit of sprucing up.

Ohh, and ya, one of our friends got bit by a snake by her cottage. The hotel people were nice, and sent her to the hospital by their car without any charge, but such a thing is nt expected anywhere.
