The first most important thing for you decide on is breakfast. it is not geared up for english or european tastes, the menu caters for thai and chinese and we were very outnumbered big time. the only english type food was chicken sausage (like tasteless canned hotdog), ham laid in boiling water, eggs freshly cooked all ways, sauted potato, croissant, nice bread and some buns, 2 x cereal, yoghurt, 3 x fruit and a few salad items. NO BACON, PORK SAUSAGE, CHEESE or TOMATO. we went to Mcdonalds. The staff in the restaurant are a little laid back and you have to do everything yourself.
The staff stuggle with english language, there are a token amount of staff about that can speak it, the wifi in the reception doesn't work well for everyone and there is a work around that I found out how to do myself - instructions at the bottom.
it is the only resort in Ao Nang that is in a jungle setting, all other resorts in Ao Nang are crammed in with hardly any greenery. it is a little rugged and makes all the usual bug noises. There has been work done to the pool hotel rooms but they are probably going to be the noisiest due to kids playing by pool and at one end there is a bar that plays live music outdoors, the cheap hotel and bungalows are a bit of a walk away but not that bad. the garden bungalows are under a jungle canopy and quite dark. we stayed in the luxury villa on top floor and had a view over the top of the canopy these were best rooms, but we got it half price if I had to pay full price I would have gone to an out of town 5 star instead.
There is work being done to the resort and had been stepped up by the time we were leaving, all the water features need cleaning out and the pool bed mattresses are disgusting that I would never lay on one but so were the other resorts with more stars, also outside the restaurant it is waste land and needs paving as it is unsightly. other structural things need attention and the jet sprayer needs to be used alot. be careful which bungalow you choose, some face onto the toilet block of the one in front, they are quite dark too being under the jungle canopy but that is what it is meant to be like. many bodge jobs done by cowboy builders or just need attention but not bad enough for me to tell you not to stay there, i guess you would just laugh like we did, bathroom silicon is a disaster in thailand full stop. Photos show reality.
Otherwise it was OK compaired to the other resorts we saw which had all the same or similar issues and none of the other resorts in the Ao Nang centre were in a resort jungle setting, most were crammed up in the concrete some with many steep steps and beware when choosing a resort that it is not near the road as that is really noisy and often they have rooms above shops and bars facing onto the street when they are made to sound like a boutique hotel.
If I had to choose again I would have gone to the sheriton or centera but the only thing is that the bill at the end of the week would have broken me financially and taxis/longtails would be stacking up cost too - but krabi resort and these two (among some others near the sheriton) were the only hotels with a true beach resort atmosphere. Ao Nang itself doesn't really have any beach sunbathing so choose your hotel well if you want to sunbathe as most of them have very small pool areas - Ao Nang is not geared for sun worshippers unless you go to krabi resort or one of the resorts further away. so think about it - krabi resort has beach/pool and near to town but with some downsides which it seems might be being tackled by the time we left ready for the high season - beat that!
if you can't get on the internet then you need to statically assign an IP address to your PC/IPAD/internet phone because the DHCP server giving out IP addresses doesn't always redirect you to the gateway. you need to find where to type these in the properties of the internet settings in internet protocol (IPV4)
IP Address - this needs to be unique and I configured a few peoples with the following - see how the last number is different 10 - 20 seemed to work.
192.168.1.10 or 192.168.1.11 or 192.168.1.12 etc
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
on your ipad/iphone there is no proxy server
