“Don't get a beachfront bungalow”
Reviewed 2 February 2014 via mobile

We had two rooms booked - one was the A1 beachfront bungalow by the restaurant/bar and the other was a garden bungalow. The prior was about $500NZD and the latter about $260NZD.

The garden bungalow was fine - spacious clean and tidy but there were issues with the shower (kept going really hot then really cold and stopped working all together). The resort got it working again but didn't fix the water temp.

The A1 beachfront room was a complete rip off. The only thing it had going for it was it's proximity to the beach but the beach itself is pretty poor by Thailand standards. It has very outdated decor and a really bad touch up paint job.

Wifi connection is very patchy. Virtually unusable.

The beach itself is full of litter. So sad to see such a beautiful place in that state.

The resort won't give you two room keys so you can't have the air con on if you're not in the room. For $500 a night you think they could allow this!

Take a look at L Resort. We went and took a look at it. It's just down the road from Krabi Resort, is much newer, has an excellent restaurant next door and is just across the road from the beach.

Make sure you hire a long boat and get out on the water for a day - the lagoon by Hong Island is sublime.

- GREAT location with a strip of "private" beach (although the area closest to the resort was a shell beach vs sand which is not comfortable) There were chairs set out but were first come first serve - side note: don't expect too much from the beach in this area itself....was surprised at how much litter there was!
- Good service/food - bar service was a little slow if you ordered one of their fancy coconut cocktails so you just needed to prepare accordingly!
- Low water pressure in shower
- Free Wifi but spotty
- Only massage area was outdoors but there were plenty of massages shops walking distance
- Plenty of restaurants walking distance
- Booked a day trip for cave kayaking/James Bond Island tour which was so much fun and very easy to do through the hotel (only a day in advance too!)

Great stay in this recently renovated hotel. Thankfully the renovations had finished before we arrived, as our agent Andaman Sky (great company, google them for lots of info on the region) had said they had been assured by the resort would be the case. This hotel’s location is the best in Ao Nang and we had a great room, the Grand room it was called, one or two steps up from the Deluxe, or so we perceived after chatting about the resort with other people round the pool, some of whom were quite down on the Deluxe rooms.

Ao Nang was a laugh and a half, even with a toddler in tow, we spent most of our time down the other end of the beach at the massage hut area where there are dozens of little huts offering massage. We hardly went anywhere except to eat, so it was good that Ao nang was lively, we had just come from a very relaxing stay on Koh Lanta but were starting to get a bit bored, so Ao Nang was just what we needed, went out and ate and watched the people going by (lots of them).

Construction is ongoing on the territory. All roads on the territory are blocked. Dust, noise from construction. No clean beach - dirty send and stinking water, streams of sewage all over the beach. Beach beds are for the VIP-villa guests only. No lunch box in case of early departure. No Wi-Fi. No electronic key for the door. Dangerous bathroom interior.

Room Tip: Deluxe hotel rooms are too close to street (noise)

It's biggest plus point is that it is the only hotel in Ao Nang which is on the beach. That's probably why it charges a tariff which is a trifle too high for a hotel which, in my opinion, is a 4 star hotel.

The Pros :
(i) A private beach (but then, Ao Nang beach by itself is nothing great)
(ii) Very friendly staff
(iii) Neat & clean rooms and properly maintained surroundings
(iv) Prompt room service
(v) Very well located - string of restaurants and other shops as soon as you come out of the entrance, booking office for long tail boats a 5 minute walk away and pick up up point for island tours a 10 minute walk away

Cons :
(i) Very stingy on replenishing tea/coffee/sugar sachets in room
(ii) Poor wifi connection (not that it matters to me since I stay off the net on holidays but I am making this comment since it seems to matter to a lot to travellers)
(iii) Not enough lighting in the room and bathroom (I had to struggle to shave)...and to get really fussy, it's a bit strange that there is no towel rack in the tub area and no phone in the loo.

Btw, was not bothered by the renovation work at all but maybe that was because my room was away from the main area of renovation activity ?

We were here in the second week of December. The hotel staff was incredibly nice. Due to weird timings of flights from India, we reached at 10am but they just checked us in with no issues on early arrival. The rooms were very good. No complaints there. The fact that it has it's own piece of beach made it perfect. As well as when you walked out of the hotel, you were bang in the middle of the restaurants, bars and shopping street. But due to the vastness of the property, you had incredible privacy once you got in. If I go back, I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else.
My only negative, which isn't really that big a deal, is their breakfast was ok. I could never get my eggs cooked completely. They didn't get it when I asked them to flip my eggs as I don't like sunny side up. But like I said, it wasn't a biggie cause there were other things in the buffet that one could eat.
