“We will be back!”

We loved it here, the standard of accommodation and the size were perfect for our party of 6 (3 little kids). The private pool kept the kids entertained before and after our trips into town or boat trips to other islands. Rob, Lynn and the team did everything for us from the moment we got off the plane. Travelling with little kids can be a logistical nightmare but this was very easy. The free tuk tuk took us into town and on the odd occasion it was busy, Rob came and picked us up in his car! we loved it here, thanks for such a great stay. we will be back!

Tip - as it is 2 pr 3 kms to the beach, I recommend also hiring a motor bike for your whole stay for when you need to pick up bread, milk etc. only 250thb per day! (The taxi/tuk tuk's in Krabi are WAY more expensive than in Bangkok).

Tip - book everything thru Baan santhiya. Transfers, Tours etc. They have the knowledge and expertise. And its so easy and no more expensive!

In searching for something that could be improved, I would have to say that the pillows were quite hard, but THATS IT!

“Value for money villa”

We stayed for 5 nights in Krabi at Baan Santhiya and were impressed with the level of service shown by everyone on Rob's team. The tuk-tuk driver was kind enough to wait for us while we purchased groceries at the 7-11 and the local market, this made it so easy to purchase initial food supplies.
We did find it easier just to catch a tuk-tuk from AoNang back to the villa at night for the same price as the service provided by the villa, but this was purely a convenience issue.
There are now very large non-slip mats near the pool which do stop the problems in the patio area, but I did notice how easy it is to slip on the tiles from the pool to front door and always ensured after a little slip that I walked on the pebble surrounds of the tiles, so it was not a big deal once you are aware.
We used the airport transfer service from Phuket to and from our villa and found this so easy and convenient to use. My girls really enjoyed the space in the large van on the way back to Phuket. We also booked a cooking class through Lyn and thoroughly enjoyed our bang, bang, chop, chop session!
We didn't like the taste of the filtered water and preferred to use bottled water but loved having the use of a washing machine. Lyn met us at the villa on our arrival and went through everything and Rob popped by the next day to ensure we were happy. We had a few problems using the tv remote and he quickly assisted us with that. The team here really aims to please their guests. We did find the pillows on the beds a little too firm for our liking but that seems to be a problem for us when staying in most places in Thailand and is a personal preference. We saw the pool man slip in early every morning to clean the pool, which was sparkling.

“Great place to stay, esp for Singapore HDB dwellers :)”

My family of 5 had just spent 6 nights at Baan Santhiya and we loved it!!!

Booking was easy as Rob was very prompt with all his email replies, even to silly question like are towels provided (for info, hand, bath and beach towels are provided).

Pick up was a non-hassle as Lynn was right at the exit waiting for us with the van transfer.

The 2-storey house was a welcomed sight and it is more like a home than a rental villa. Beautiful paintings/artwork ornate the walls of the different rooms and the kitchen is fully equipped.

What we loved about Baan Santhiya:

- Although there are 4 villas there (one occupied by Rob and his family), each had its own privacy and we were never disturbed by any noise from the other villas (hope my two girls with their excited screams did not disturb the others too :p)

- The availability of the free tuk-tuk (from 8.30 - 6.00) is a convenience that we appreciated as the villa is situated about 10min drive away from the Ao Nang Beach. Tam, the driver, is always just a phone call away (a free phone for making local calls and sending messages is provided) to bring our family to our destinations, saving the trouble of having to find a parking lot if we rent our own vehicle. And we pay 200 baht to have him bring us back to the villa after dinner. We did not try asking other tuk-tuk after reading about one tourist's experience when he was brought to an unfamiliar location and asked to pay more to bring him to his destination. But I did try to request for a free shuttle to go to The Hilltop restaurant but as our villa is not at Ao Nang beach, they quoted 300 baht for the transfer. So I guess 200 baht/trip to pay after 6.00pm should be reasonable.

- Filtered water is provided so it saved the trouble of us buying bottled water, although some might not take to the taste and during the last few days, we realised sediments when we boiled the water, which seemed to be the case from what we understood from one of the staff. But we still drank from it anyway and we are still fine :)

- It was easy to book the tours from Lynn without us having to leave the villa. And the prices are reasonable. We went on a Sunset Kayaking tour and a fellow tour-mate shared her experience looking for the best deal and bargaining the price down with a vendor from one of those Ao Nang shops. And in the end, the price her family was given was the same as that offered by Baan Santhiya, without any bargaining required from us. So we appreciate such fair pricing for the tour packages.

- Although the villas are situated away from the main road and surrounded by plantation, our family never felt worried about our safety. We saw security officer patrolling at night and I think having the owner's family staying at the same location is a very good assurance :)

- The housekeeping is discreet and thorough. There were days when my family decided to laze around in the house and the housekeepers will come in only when we leave for lunch to clean up the place so as not to intrude into our activities. And it is always nice to come back to a cleaned house, which we have left wet from walking from the pool to the rooms on the second storey.

- The 6m x 3m pool has brought lots of fun to my girls. It is the first thing they want to jump into in the morning and we manage to squeeze in a morning dip for them even though we were leaving at 10am on our last day. And the adults had many an idyllic time just reading by the pool or having breakfast while they played.

- The wifi speed was good and we had no problem downloading or WhatsApping either in the living room, by the pool or even in our rooms.

- The tv channels were plentiful, with options to satisfy both kids and adults. And the 2 tvs, one in the living room and the other in the master bedroom meant that we don't have to fight over the channels :)

- The washing machine meant we could do our own laundry so we did not have to bring a whole load of dirty clothes back :). But not knowing whether the detergent will be provided, we brought our own washing powder along.

- And lastly, the view of the mountain fronted by forest from the master bathroom is something that will be missed greatly. It made every bath time that more relaxing.

Just some little inconveniences to share, and these are really not things that will spoil the stay, but as they completed the whole experience:

- Although my hubby loved it, I found the rainforest shower head a challenge to use at times, esp when I want to keep the head dry

- the master bathroom has a water heater storage tank (not the instant type) system. The capacity of the tank meant that the hot water can last for one shower and the next person will have to wait if he wants a really hot shower. We tried the bath tub only once, but there is not sufficient hot water to fill a really hot soak. But the water pressure is good, even with both bathrooms on the second storey being used at the same time so that is all that matters to us.

Given the services that had been rendered by the staff, the tranquil location and of course the great pricing, it is definitely THE place to stay when we go to Krabi again the next time. For us Singaporean HDB dwellers, my girls had fun just climbing up and down the stairs for the 7 days we were there so what more can we parents ask for :)

“Photos Do Not Lie”
Reviewed 21 November 2012 for a stay in November 2012

Yes, it is everything you see in the photographs and more. They are not villas, they are spacious houses with everything you have at home! Rooms and Bathrooms are generous, modern and pretty clean. On a quiet little street with lots of "jungle" around. 24 hour security, and the maintenance of the pool was impressive.

It is not walking distance to Aonang, but with transport at your disposal, it is no problem. We hired a motor bike which gave us greater freedom.

Only areas of concern were the lack of privacy with the pool - open style fence for all to see thru, would have liked the side walls to continue around to the street. A more important matter is the pool patio tiles and the feature tiles around the pool. They are dangerously slippery when wet. Spoke to Rob who was aware of it, but this did not save my partner from a dangerous fall, breaking his wrist. Guests will be wary of the tiling throughout the house if wet, and the design of the stair treads is such that the overhang from the step above reduces the actual tread available to the foot, resulting in care needing to be taken when descending. But this is Thailand and stairs are always a matter of what fits the space and has nothing to do with consideration for the end user or any safety formula in design..

However, we intend to bring the family to stay in 2013 as the economics of family use of these "villas" cannot be compared with hotel rooms and the like. Highly Recommended, just watch the kids and us oldies, with the tiles!

Management Response

Hi Ann,

Thanks for your review - I hope your partner's wrist is on the mend. We have now placed large anti-slip mats on every pool terrace.
We had just re-planted the garden in front of the fence, so it may have seemed a little open, but now the vegetation is growing hence allowing more privacy.

Thanks again for staying with us,

Best Wishes, Rob
