“Good for the price - homely feel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 March 2011

Harvest House is a small guesthouse with about 11 rooms and not a hotel, which is worth remembering. We paid about £26 per night and I would say that it was worth that amount.

Despite it being a guesthouse, you do not feel that you are sleeping in someone's guestroom. You can be as secular as you like. The staff were always friendly and they were on reception until about midnight.

POSITIVES:
> They have about 4 computers that can be used for cheap internet access.
> You can arrange things like boat tours, airport transfers, ferry transfers etc directly through them.
> I like the road it is on - more character than the main strip on the beachfront.
> The furniture is pretty modern and in very good condition.
> The aircon works!
> The staff are usually friendly and you feel at home when you come back from a day out.

NEGATIVES:
> There was a safety deposit box in our room, but it did not work properly.
> The balcony overlooked the back of the building - but then, the room was cheap!
> The 15 min walk to the beach can be tiresome.
> The bath had seen better days and was the only bad thing about the furnishings.

Other info that you might find useful:

We arrived by airport shuttle bus, which I would recommend doing as taxis can cost 600-900B (£12-18). The airport bus is only 150B (£3) per person and takes about an hour with a couple of stops. We expected to be dropped near the beach and then to walk, but the driver actually dropped everyone at their individual hotels, which was fantastic.

Aonang seems to have two main spots for nightlife - Centre Point on the front, surrounded by lots of touristy restuarants and then a little Soi on the road Harvest House is on, with some fun girlie bars. I say fun, because it is not at all seedy like you will find in Bangkok or Pattaya. The girls just play pool, try to entice people in, etc. I am a female writing this and I felt comfortable and welcome there. There is a nice selection of more expensive (around 400B per person) restaurants on this road, plus cheaper ones.

If ever I went back to Aonang on a budget, I think I would consider staying here again.

Had a nightmare start, we booked what I thought was a Gov't coach but was a private one from Bangkok to Krabi. Cramped, horrible and only stopped at their own drop off points (though admittedly the food/drink wasn't too expensive at these). So we didn't arrive in Krabi Town Coach station but at another stop outside the town with their own touts at the ready. However they recommended this hotel and it was cheap so we booked 1 night, they took us in a mini bus to it.

But what a great result - absolutely lovely staff, big rooms (fridge/tv/safe/air con) and very comfortable. They even provided a mat for the beach for free. Beach is 7-10 min walk down the hill which while it was a downside, it kept you away from too much hustle & bustle. Breakfast was available on request, nice but a bit pricey (£3, I know cheap for the UK but not here). We booked 2 more nights (it would have been more but we were moving on). Air con was quiet and very good.

Food wise I completely recommend a tiny place down the hill run by about 4 muslim women (headscarfs). Sorry I can't remember its name but its covered with an open front and about 6 tables on 3 different tiers. Just watched as one prepared the pastes, tasting it as she went along, it was very very cheap £1-£2.

Not sure if the negative review below is for the same place, as this hotel does have a prominent reception. Its a little confusing as the address says Krabi Town but this hotel is actually at Ao Nang beach a few miles from Krabi Town. I checked the address with the hotel website to make sure I wrote the review for the right place.

The only pain in this resort are the touts for restaurants/shops especially on the seafront.

This hotel is great, we hadnt planned to stay here when we arrived in Krabi/Ao Nang but the owner saw us walking down the street with our bags and asked if we would like to see the room. After we saw it there was no point looking at any other place, the room was massive and very clean. It looked like a 4 star hotel room in England which was brilliant seeing as we had mainly been staying in hostels and guesthouses on our travels. The rooms where cleaned everyday and we got free bottles of water each everyday as well. The room also had air con, a balcony, big bed, a bath, a fridge and a TV, which may be the norm for a hotel, but not for a hostel which this could be called based on the price! The staff couldnt have been nicer and helped us plan all our trips and onward travel, and also got a price for it which was much better than any of the many travel agents on the high street. It is located at the top of the street but its only a 10 or 15 min walk to the beach and because of its location its away from the bars which makes its quieter. I'm sure you cant get better in Ao Nang for the price, STAY HERE!!!

I was a bit shocked to read the other review on here - not sure they were at the same place as us. Our experience couldn't have been more different!

We arrived on the bus with a hotel in mind, but it was full so we were just wandering down the road looking for an alternative and had the pure good fortune to stumble upon Harvest House.

If you're looking for large luxury rooms with lots of lovely little touches and details, plus amazing friendly staff who just can't do enough for you, plus a price tag that's hotel-quality for budget prices, then I'd highly recommend it. Our room is huge, with white tiles floor and an ensuite which has a good shower and bath tub. Very rare around here. There is a fridge in the room - very handy, and they provide free bottles of water everyday. It is impeccably clean and the housekeeper cleans our room every single day - something that just doesn't happen other places. I am a very light sleeper and in the 7 nights we have been here, I have slept soundly every night. They even create works of art with the towels on the bed, we've seen swan and hearts and all sorts! You can't hear the road from our room, so you can always ask got one at the back if you're concerned about that.

True, it doesn't have it's own bar or restaurant, but they do a cheap breakfast if you request it and you are minutes from great restaurants of every cuisine (I recommend Ravotti Italian for the cheapest pasta and freebies ever), and it's not right on the beach front - but that's reflected in the price and it is only 10 mins walk away. We are only paying about 10GBR a night!

The staff can't help enough with local knowledge and advice. And we ended up extending our stay here from 2 nights to 9 in the end.
