On arrival at this hotel, we were given a delicious glass of juice and a cool, peppermint face cloth as we were sitting at reception. This was a very appreciated treat, as we had just spent a night in an absolute dive down the road. The staff were amazingly helpful and their English was impeccable. The Internet access was great and there were computers to use in the lobby, if you're computerly challenged. There's also a great little library of books to borrow in lots of different languages. The rooms were WONDERFUL, the shower fantastic and the pool! Don't get me started about the pool. It all felt absolutely luxuriant, especially the cocktails by the pool. The meals are lovely, and it was fabulous to overlook the beach at breakfast. You can easily book tours in the lobby (steer clear of the longboat island tour) and the mini bar is reasonably priced. It's a fair way out of town, which is lovely and it's an enjoyable walk to the busy centre. The convenience store next door is way overpriced, so try not to use it. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and I couldn't commend this hotel enough.

Stayed for 5 nights & had a great stay.
Very spacious room with comfy bed. Great pool but I wouldn't recommend a pool access room as everyone can nosy in.
Good breakfast but evening meals a bit pricy & cater more for western tastes.
Great location as only 10 min walk from Ao Nang beach area but much less busy.

Just got back from 7 days in Krabi. Spent two days at the Sala Talay with two family members.. What a dump! The hotel is dirty and depressing. I wouldn't even rate this place as a 2 star. The lobby furniture was stained and dirty. When we checked in we were given dirty cold towels to wipe ourselves with. The staff had dirty, stained clothes. The first room we were checked into was so depressing....grey, concrete walls, and a terrible odor of damp in the bathroom. The room resembled a prison cell rather than a resort hotel room. We were then moved to a larger two bed family room. The room faced the rear of the hotel with a view of a swamp. This room was just a bigger, dirtier version of the first room. There were no duvet covers on the bed, dirty bath robes and slippers in the closets and the room stunk of damp. The walls were wet with damp. You could barely open the door without being attacked by hundrends of mosquitos. If this your idea of a great resort vacation, then you'll love this place.
Fortunately we were able to move to a different hotel.....it was paradise by comparison. If there were a rating lower than terrible I would give this place it. The best part of the experience was checking out!

Just returned from 10 days at the Sala Talay with my husband. Very attractive boutique hotel with open lobby with bar, lounge, internet area. mini library etc. Opposite the beach, peaceful location yet in easy walking distance to lots of bars, shops, restaurants, massage places and exchange booths.

We both had a great time at this hotel and was so pleased we had booked a pool access room. Didn't think I'd like it but it was so lovely to return to our cool room after a hot day out and be able to open the doors to the sun deck and slip down the private steps straight into the pool - absolute heaven. Definitely worth booking, was worried about the lack of privacy but didn't find this a problem at all. Rooms 2108 - 2114 are at the 'quiet' end of the hotel and are more private.

Hotel was full when we stayed yet most days sun-beds and parasols were available. (some selfish people put their towels on them at 10 am and did not return until 3.30pm!) Every room has two sun loungers on its deck or balcony which is a bonus.

Rooms large enough, dark grey polished concrete walls but they do grow on you, the beds are firm, tv,dvd player, cheap mini-bar, not much storage for clothes apart from wardrobe (no drawers and only 4 hangers!) we were fine though! Good bathroom with separate shower, always had hot water and no sewage smells! Plenty of clean towels provided. Air conditioning was very efficient and well needed.

Excellent location at the quiet end of Ao Nang opposite the beach where you can get a longtail boat to various beaches and islands - brilliant!

Hotel was very clean but the wood on the pool decks and balconies need re-varnishing and other small bits and pieces looked tired but nothing drastic. The gardens were kept immaculate and there was great free wi-fi all around the hotel, we never lost the signal once in 10 days! At the back of the hotel was a mangrove swamp and there were some whiffy smells on some days as you came out of your room but nothing to spoil your stay here.

Pool is nice and goes round the whole length of the hotel (all rooms apart from a couple of garden ones overlook the pool) it's L shaped so you can have a good swim. The tiles are not grouted for some reason and by the end of our 10 day stay the pool did look a little murky but we received a note from the management saying they were checking the water quality.

Breakfast was good but did get a little boring after 10 days but this is to be expected in a small hotel. Service was good and we found all of the hotel staff very friendly and helpful.. Happy hour at the pool bar and again later at the bar was a good time to try all different cocktails for 100 baht.

The hotel's supermarket out the front was cheaper than those in town and most things even cheaper than in 7-11.

Just opposite the hotel to the left is the motor cycle tuk-tuk taxi rank - any where in Ao Nang is only 20 baht per person. We made good use of these, even stayed the same price after midnight!

Can't think of any reason why you should not stay here!
All in all we had a fantastic holiday here and would definitely return.

Room Tip: Pool access rooms are brilliant , 2112 and 2114 are the most private.

I have just come back from ten days at the Sala Talay, Ao Nang, with my husband. We both enjoyed it very much and looked forward to getting back to the cool room each day. It was always clean and cool with fresh towels (although there was a note that said that if you left the towels on the rail they would not be changed to help save water this was not done and is one minor complaint).
We had a pool room which meant we had direct access from our terrace. As much as I did not think this would be that important, it was and we enjoyed sitting on our own terrace on our own sunbeds and getting walking down into the pool.
The mini bar in the room was great and on the whole cheaper than drinks at the bar - apart from happy hour which was from 4-6.30pm - nice cocktails.
Breakfast was at the front of the hotel and olverlooked the ocean - I loved this! The menu did get a bit repetitive but on the whole it was good. However, do watch that everything is covered and don't eat anything that isn't like the pancakes or the little cakes that sit open on the side.
The hotel provide a mozzie plug but I still got bitten quite badly - tiger balm was purchased and helped but the best thing is to take your own Deet which you can pick up from Millets or the like.
There were a few complaints from some people regarding the pool - things like a brick missing and some people believing it wasn't clean enough but we had no trouble and you must remember where you are.
The air con worked well every night unlike some place I have been and we only had a power cut once for a short while.
The location of the hotel meant it was a bit outside the main resort but that wasn't a problem for us and we liked walking into the town at night past all the restaurants, tailors and massage parlours - though you do get a bit tired of saying no thank you after a while.

Room Tip: If you like being near the pool - go for a pool access room!

I agree with some of the other comments: great location, well maintained, decent breakfast, and though I was only there for 2 nights, it was clean, comfortable, and modern. As it rained the entire time, we did spend a lot of time at the hotel and in our room, so the pool and mini library and all the other activities at the hotel were great to have. The boats to Phi-Phi are right across the road and tuk-tuks are easily available. I agree that this is not a 4 star property, but definitely better than most of the hotels on this strip.

I had a great time at this hotel, but thought that I would provide a review as it is advertised as a four star hotel when in reality it is a 3 star plus hotel. Good location - just on the outskirts of Ao Nang, but very easy to get into the centre, about 80p on a Tuk, Tuk one way, 5 min journey or 20 mins walk. We stayed in the Deluxe room - bottom of the range in the hotel - but still nice accommodation, if a little tired and without items like an iron or ironing board as standard but which we received on request. The pool was lovely and picturesque, our room faced the pool and beach so we had lovely sunsets. Maid service was excellent. The bar staff at the pool very friendly, engaging and helpful. The gentleman who we booked our trips with in reception was always welcoming and very helpful. Breakfast was not spectacular, I mainly stuck to fresh fruit, yoghurt and museli, having being warned off of the cooked elements by other guests. This put off my friend and I from trying out the restaurant at other mealtimes which was a pity as we had our final Thai lunch there which was very good. What stopped this from being a 4 star for me was the overall level of service - bored and fairly unengaging reception staff wearing washed out tired uniforms, no pool side service - if you were on the loungers, no one approached you to offer drinks or food, you would always have to go to the bar. Also on the last day we checked out at 12pm and before our transfer at 5pm, were given a cold shower to use at the end of the toilet which was less than clean; not a good memory of our departure. I guess I was expecting the same standard of hotel with regards to accommodation and service that I had in Phuket at the Katathani Bhuri Beach Resort - a truly excellent hotel, and really there is absolutely no comparison of Sala Talay with that one to be honest. So in summary I would not stay at this hotel again, but if you did book it you would have a good time.

Room Tip: Lots of people pick the swim up rooms but I observed that a lot of 'party people' did too...
