This is not a 4* hotel; just about a 3*
The pool area was tired and uninviting. The sun beds and mattresses were well past their best - rusty and stained. There was a constant drain smell around the pool and this was also prevalent in the bathrooms - very smelly.

We were in executive rooms but although large they were very dark and the bathroom just didn't work. No privacy when using the toilet!! The furnishings were ok but nothing special; not 4* standard. The lighting made shaving and putting on make up difficult. There was a good English speaking movie channel on the TV and we did get two bottles of drinking water each day. There were slippers in the room and we have travelled and stayed in many hotels where these are complimentary. On checking out we had to pay 150 bhat for them!! There was no noticed in the rooms to this effect so beware do not take the slippers!!

The breakfast was poor and unless you went in at 7am (we did on our last day due to getting to the airport) the food was cold. We complained but nothing really improved. The selection of cold breakfast fruit etc. was not varied in the 6 days we were there. The tea was always very hot though.

Prices in the bar were expensive and they did have a happy hour but we were not allowed to drink the happy hour drinks in the reception area next to the bar ( which was more comfortable and better furnished) for some bizarre reason. It was never really busy in the bar due to the price and being uninviting.

The whole hotel was very tired around the edges and we would not go back and certainly would not recommend it to anyone.

We stayed here for 6 nights in December. We also stayed in the Kata Thani in Phuket and Phi Phi Island village. They were both miles in front of Krabi Thai Village. I couldn't fault either of those.

Although the hotel was up a hill that wasn't really a problem, if you were feeling lazy you could get a tuc tuc that didn't break the bank. There are also some lovely restaurants on the walk down to the town.

The reception area is very impressive and we did got a lovely welcome. However I felt that some of the staff uniforms looked a bit shabby. I know that might sound pedantic, but in the other hotels we stayed in the staff looked really smart and I feel it makes a difference. I also felt that the staff were not as helpful as they could have been.

There were two big pools that were great but I felt that it needed some improvement. Even a lick of paint.

I couldn't really fault the room. Was presented beautifully on arrival.

The breakfast was not very good, often some of the intended hot food was served cold ie eggs, pancakes and bacon.

Overall it was fine, nothing special. I also feel that 6 nights was too long in Krabi, I think 4 would be plenty.

we stayed here for 2 weeks for are honeymoon in nov. I cannot fault this hotel atall, before we had got out are taxi the bell boys had are suitcases in the hotel lobby which is amazing. We where greated with a cold towl and drink and explained everything about hotel, then the bell boys took are bags up too are rooms for us and explained everything in there too us. We arrived around 9 at night so ate in the hotel on 1st night, the food was lovely and service very good but it is alot more expensive than going out so it was only time we ate in there. the pool area is lovely, well kept and clean. They provide towls for you, the pool staff are so helpfull, and wait on you the whole time, you dont even have too move too get a drink. the pool food is good but again alittle more expensive than outside hotel. The rooms are lovely and big, cleaned daily and 2 free bottles of water left everyday. krabi as a whole is a lovely place i will def go back too. the people are so kind and will do anything for you. on are last night we went in a indian resturan, they asked us too go in whole time we where there but i dont eat indian so the man who run it offered too get me a pizza brought from his pizza place if i wanted so we went in and the food was well worth it. my husband said it was some of the best indian food he had tasted. Overall a very lovely honeymoon in a very magic place

Hotel and Flights
We stayed in the KTV for 7 nights, but then had an extra 6 nights due to the airport protests. We flew with thai air, they are awful, food terrible and no seat back monitors! Flew back with malaysia air via Langkawi and KL, very impressed with the service. The hotel itself is fine, rooms OK (not immaculately cleaned and smelled of sewerarge) but big enough, with good shower, fridge, complementary water, chargeable other drinks, good english movie channel and air con.

Pools
The two pools were big and nice, the swim up pool bar was good too. Not enough loungers though and they could do with replacing them. Lunch round the pool was average and expensive.

Meals
Breakfast was fine, no issues. Nobody ate in the restaurant at dinner, way too expensive, totally overpriced as you can find better places at a fraction of the price nearby. Right outside the hotel are four or five very very good restaurants, we loved these, very cheap and great food in all of them! Turn left out of the hotel and head down to the sea front, you are spoilt for choice with restarants, we never had a bad meal.

Facilities
Spa was very dissapointing, totally overpriced....£10.00 per person for a jacuzzi bath for 30 mins, same prices for steam room! Shocking! The massage place over the road does thai massages and foot massages for about 250 bhat, compared to about 2000 bhat for the same at the hotel! The bar was never full at night, because the drinks were so overpriced. The hotel reception staff were very lovely and helpful, until we got stuck there and they charged us a fortune for extra nights (about £100 per room) so after two nights we moved to the Ao Nang Bay at the bottom of the road for £50, until Virgin finally agreed to pick up our tab and we moved back up to the KTV (pools better, only reason we moved back).

Excursions
There is unseen excursions in the lobby, we booked private trip to the natural springs and emerald pool and elephant trecking (that scared me to death, very slippy!), and we did kayaking which was good too, as was the four island speadboat tour. With regards to Ao Nang, its a nice place, quiet but nice.

Day trips - we took a long tail to phra nang cave from aaonang beach, beatufil beach, they serve corn on the cob on the sand and the views are lovely. Lots of rock climbers. Aonang beach, the local beach is not worth sitting on, its a bit naff, getting out and about to the other beaches is a must. We did the speedboat tour, went to The beach (phi phi very dissapointing, so crowded and so many boats you couldnt really get a feel for how nice it really is, i believe you can camp overnight on the beach but its expensive, wish we had done that). Phi Phi Don was cool, trendy little cafes etc. wish we had stayed a night or so there, the party scene is supposed to be great at night on the beach, lots of backpackers.

Beaches
Walk right along to the end of the beach (head left) and you end up at a cliff with wild monkeys playing, very nice. go right on the beach and walk for a long time and you end up near an island where in the afternoon you can walk directly to it if the tide is out and there are hundereds of crabs. Both make for something to do on a rainy day (and we had a lot of rain and overcast days in november!).

All in all, Krabi is very nice if you do the day trips, if you stay in ao nang it doesnt have much to offer that is any different from any other seaside resort so make the most of it and get out and about. Oh and thai boxing on weds and fri nights is a must at the aonang arena, very good fun.

If i went that, would stay at the KTV again as location wise its good and the pools are great for a lazy afternoon and its out of the hustle and bustle but only a short walk down to the front, no need for getting a tuk tuk anywhere, everywhere is within walking distance but if you want them they can be flagged down everywhere. Just a shame the facilities are so overpriced, they are missing a trick really, if they brought down the prices people would actually use the facilities and the atmosphere at the hotel would certainly improve! p.s. dont use the internet at the hotel, another rip off....walk down the road to the hotel opposite the aonang bay at the cross roads, they have the internet in their lobby free of charge!

We have just returned from a fabulous stay at the Krabi Thai Village. As a base to explore Krabi and Ao Nang it was almost perfect. The rooms, staff and location were excellent. The room was spacious, gave wonderful views of the spectacular vegetation and were kept scrupulously clean. The pool was more than adequate for our needs and the staff there were always helpful, arranging our beds for the day from the comfort of the balcony when we needed them. The hotel was not without its faults: the amenities, food and beverages were over-priced. Don't be fooled by the "complimentary" meal; the "discount" still meant we were charged more than we could have got a meal and drinks for down the road - "complimentary" obviously has a different meaning in Thailand.

Staying at the Krabi Thai Village was the perfect location to explore Ao Nang and the surrounding area. Within minutes of the hotel we were able to find everything we wanted to make our holiday perfect. Ao Nang itself is just a 5 minute walk away and great food, fabulous excursions and all the other amenities the hotel offered available at a fraction of the price. Walk down and get a tuk tuk back, don't pay more than 40 baht.

You'll find your own favourites, but we found the food at the Royal Tandoor - wonderful, friendly service and lovely Thai and Indian food - and Patjawan's - superb, authentic Thai food - particularly good. Our rule of thumb was to avoid the glitzty, plastic tables and paper napkins gave better value for money and fantastic food. Don't pay for style over substance.

Just across the road from the KTV you could get all your laundry done for 70baht a kilo, washed and ironed. Better than 50p for a pair of knickers at the hotel and it was great coming home with almost no washing. You can get it done cheaper, but you have to remember where you've left it! Also the massage place across from the hotel was excellent and a quarter of the price charged by KTV.

Take a trip on the long-tailed boats to the surrounding islands. Book your own from the sea front. We had a beautiful day out doing what we wanted at our own pace, the boatman didn't rush us and took us where we wanted. The beach at Ao Nang is OK, but the sea isn't great and it was wonderful to see the clear seas the other islands provide, as well as the phenomenal scenery.

Overall we had a great time staying at the Krabi Thai Village. As a base to explore it was superb. Ao Nang is a bustling resort, providing everything you need from a holiday in Thailand, without the other "delights" of Thailand being in your face. We had a fantastic time and wouldn't hesitate to return, either to Krabi or The Krabi Thai Village.
