“Jungle life”

Tarzan and Jane in the jungle. So we felt. The hotel area was incredibly well done with lot of trees and green. We were in the second floor of a bungalow similar houses. The room was ok and quite nicely decorated. We only had 10 meters to the pool and usually we do not use such but this time we have to jump in. It was so nice. The breakfast was quite ok. It was not high season but everything worked fine anyway.

Room Tip: Near the pool

The wife and I stayed here for 2 nights in late November as part of our Thailand trip.
We stayed here before a few years ago and liked it, so much in fact that this was the only hotel we choose to return to. The location of the hotel is ideal.

I booked a poolside room. Yes our room is next to the pool but upstairs which was disappointing as I assumed a pool side room would…….anyhow, possibly that was my fault. Never assume anything.

Part of the attraction of the accommodation is that it is set in a jungle type environment and of course in Thailand one expects insects. However, I expect my room to be insect free on first entering it.

The room had a musty smell and many little flies and mosquitoes were in the room. I was bitten within ten minutes. I had to go to the 7-11 at the top of the street and buy bug spray to fumigate the room. Shortly after we found a cockroach in the bathroom and my wife was bitten by an ant like creature in our bed. At this point we also had no running g water and the electric kept going off (in fairness possibly not the hotels fault). It’s fair to say that we had got off to a bad start.

The standard of cleanliness is poor (see pictures).Had I have booked for any longer than two nights we would have left early.

The room has a fridge (empty), old style TV with some English channels and a safe. The bed was comfortable with clean sheets. A lot of the plug sockets in the room didn't work so keeping everything charged and mosquito killer plugged in was a juggling act. No kettle is provided. Air con wouldn't work on high fan speed and the temperature would never go below 25 no matter how long it was left on for (it was 29 outside).

The shower in the bathroom was poor and the loo seat could do with a good scrub.
The swimming pool was nice with plenty of loungers.

The hotel does not have a bar as such as due to religious reasons they do not sell beer, (that explains the empty fridge and also why no bacon for breakfast).
For breakfast think eggs, toast and fruit. There were some fake sausages but I didn't try them. Coffee was luke warm. Breakfast finishes at 10.30

Staff at reception / tourist information unable to sell us the correct tickets for a ferry to Koh lanta, so we gave up and bought them elsewhere.

Overall it was a very disappointing stay and we will certainly never return

A wonderful, quiet and exotic place to stay just a few steps from Ao Nang center. The hotel is located actually in a jungle full with birds, squirrels, butterflies and some (but not to many mosquitos). It is very quiet during the day and night with only some voices of nature. Rooms are spacious with a lovely balcony to spend evenings on listening to the jungle voices. There is a complimentary water and fruit service. You enjoy your breakfast outside as there is no breakfast room. The swimming pool is very clean and quiet, the water is cold and refreshing. The best place to stay in Ao Nang!

I stayed here for 2 nights with friends, then we loved it so much that we booked another night towards the end of our trip.
The location of the Somkiet is great, you are just 5 minutes walk into the centre of Ao Nang, right onto the main road. Even though it's so central, you are set back in a "Jungle" setting and it's really peaceful.
Check in was quick and efficient, you have to wander over little bridges, across streams, through giant leaves and tropical plants, it's lovely! Our room was bright, spacious and spotless. I can't fault it!
. We were staying in a triple room and were very pleased to have a double bed and single bed, no campbeds! The bathroom was huge, with a big tub, shower and large sink area. There was a nice touch of a fruit bowl being provided each day. Also there were robes and slippers available.
We sat by the pool on one afternoon and it was lovely, plenty of areas with shade and it was a real feature in how it was set in the grounds.

Breakfast was really good it was very appetizing, with plenty of choice.

All in all if you want the best of both worlds to be near all the action of town, but have a secluded feel, this is the place to stay.

I am sitting by the pool still here at Sumkiet Buri "Magnificent" We were a bit worried, coming here after reading reviews, but we have had indifferent service all over Thailand, so braced ourselves and came. We have found the staff here lovely and happy to do whatever is needed to make our stay enjoyable. The rooms are beautiful and have SOFT beds!!!!The gardens and pool area are second to none, absolutely gorgeous right at the base of a cliff. You would never know that you were just a short stroll to all the restaurants, bars and beach. Just gorgeous. We will definitely be back

Room Tip: I would ask for one near the pool, but all are very private and have good location

Travel as couple during off season really give extra value and privacy. We checked in only to know that there's only 3 hotel guest that time. Very privacy. Unlike some other hotel/resort, the swimming pool is secluded from the public area. The most precious romantic moment was when we were the only guest enjoyed the big n nice pool. There's a nice man made stream full with Japanese Koi fish nearby the restaurant and a natural small clean stream beside our room. The rainforest landscape setting is amazing but do expect some mosquitoes if u're enjoying the verandah. The only major drawback is the rude and not so friendly front desk staff..If u can bear with it, the rest is heaven. Rooms are clean, spacious and "soundproof" :p.

Room Tip: ignore the front desk staff

This was our second stay at Somkiet Buri - our first stay was brilliant - but this stay was a major disappointment. The location is brilliant, the jungle setting is amazing, especially the pool with treetop views of the AoNang cliffs. The buri style rooms are great, very clean and spacious, but the bathrooms in particular could use some updating. Not a huge selection for breakfast, but adequate. Restaurant food was amazing and really cheap, we had lunch at the pool most days. Since our last stay however, there has obviously been a change of ownership and staff. There is no alcohol sold in the hotel at all...we respect others decisions not to have alcohol, but as a tourist destination it would be nice if it was offered. The staff were terrible. Not outright rude, but just completely unhelpful, indifferent and not at all friendly. Not even a smile at breakfast, let alone a greeting. We asked reception twice to fix our broken safe and it never happened. Our last morning there the water was switched off with absolutely no warning. When we went to reception the response was "you are leaving today anyway". Leaving without showers apparently! The water was eventually turned back on but overall we left Somkiet Buri not wanting to return.

Room Tip: If you must stay here, go with a pool view room
