Having spent our last 2 holiday's in Phuket, we decided to holiday in Krabi. We stayed at the Krabi La Playa Resort (30 Sept - 11 Oct) - a boutique resort located between Ao Nang and Nopparatthara beaches.
The resort is situated down a driveway in a quiet area with no road noise.
My wife and I stayed in room 108 - a pool access room and our daughter stayed in room 214 in the adjacent wing over looking one of the other pools (3 in total).
Our room was very spacious and well appointed with plenty of storage of clothes, flatscreen TV and DVD player. The room also contained a daybed - the bathroom was very well appointed - a large shower with glass doors.
As with other reviewers comments the beds are somewhat hard - we have become used to this given our previous holidays in Thailand. Each room has its own beach bag, mat and beach towels - a nice touch.
Rooms were cleaned each day and were left fresh along with a change of towels (bath and beach).
Resort staff were very friendly and helpful. Pools were great and a good source for cooling off. Certainly no need to 'race' to the poolside to 'reserve' your lounger here!
We only ate breakfast at the resort (included in overall price of accomodation). There is NO bacon available - even if requested.
One thing you may want to consider - the local restaurants do have a breakfast menu that is as good as what the resort offers and cheaper.
All other meals eaten in local restaurants/bars around Ao Nang beach front. Very reasonable!!
Shopping in the local area is typical - many shops selling similar merchandise. However, be aware there are no DVD's available and sports shoes are very limited (only found 2 shops selling). suggest you stock up on these in Bangkok.
The Krabi Town night market (Fri,Sat,Sun) is limited to local food stalls and shops selling mainly womens/girls clothing - nothing for the guys (unless you are stylising as a lady/boy!!)
Boat trips to the islands can be negotiated - our 4 Island trip by speed boat cost THB750 per person.
Overall, Krabi is less commercialised and crowded than Phuket. Although the shopping not as good in terms of selection.
The local people are very friendly and genuine - another great Thailand holiday!!!
