“Another relaxing Holiday in Thailand”
Reviewed 11 October 2013

Having spent our last 2 holiday's in Phuket, we decided to holiday in Krabi. We stayed at the Krabi La Playa Resort (30 Sept - 11 Oct) - a boutique resort located between Ao Nang and Nopparatthara beaches.

The resort is situated down a driveway in a quiet area with no road noise.

My wife and I stayed in room 108 - a pool access room and our daughter stayed in room 214 in the adjacent wing over looking one of the other pools (3 in total).

Our room was very spacious and well appointed with plenty of storage of clothes, flatscreen TV and DVD player. The room also contained a daybed - the bathroom was very well appointed - a large shower with glass doors.

As with other reviewers comments the beds are somewhat hard - we have become used to this given our previous holidays in Thailand. Each room has its own beach bag, mat and beach towels - a nice touch.

Rooms were cleaned each day and were left fresh along with a change of towels (bath and beach).

Resort staff were very friendly and helpful. Pools were great and a good source for cooling off. Certainly no need to 'race' to the poolside to 'reserve' your lounger here!

We only ate breakfast at the resort (included in overall price of accomodation). There is NO bacon available - even if requested.

One thing you may want to consider - the local restaurants do have a breakfast menu that is as good as what the resort offers and cheaper.

All other meals eaten in local restaurants/bars around Ao Nang beach front. Very reasonable!!

Shopping in the local area is typical - many shops selling similar merchandise. However, be aware there are no DVD's available and sports shoes are very limited (only found 2 shops selling). suggest you stock up on these in Bangkok.

The Krabi Town night market (Fri,Sat,Sun) is limited to local food stalls and shops selling mainly womens/girls clothing - nothing for the guys (unless you are stylising as a lady/boy!!)

Boat trips to the islands can be negotiated - our 4 Island trip by speed boat cost THB750 per person.

Overall, Krabi is less commercialised and crowded than Phuket. Although the shopping not as good in terms of selection.

The local people are very friendly and genuine - another great Thailand holiday!!!

We stayed at this hotel from 31st August till 11 September and must say it caters for 99% of your holiday needs. The rooms are very spacious with everything you would need (only fault is the bed was a bit hard), the shower was excellent. The supply of beach bag mat and towels to go to the beach or on trips was great. Breakfast was fine, always something you could eat and being available from 6am -10am was an added bonus. Loved the swimming pools, so large and never overly busy. The hotel restraunt was very good whether you were having a snack by the pool or a meal. The staff were great. I didn't find the language barrier a problem at all, they all done there upmost to be helpful, I must mention Pond here, she was simply brilliant and done anything to help, actually went well out her way getting Thai seasonings for us to bring home, if anyone is going soon please give her our love (Audrey & Ian from Scotland), Rainey & Ron also went out there way to be helpful. We never had a bad meal in any of the restraunts in the village even down to the street vendors ( brilliant value for money), most expensive meal was at the Hill Top, but it was worth every penny for the food and sunset, well worth a visit!!!

Stayed at La Playa resort January 2013. Would recommend to stay here. On arrival we were told the internet site we had booked on had overbooked and that we would have to stay at their sister hotel. After some deliberation and 1 night at the sister hotel, we were upgraded to a pool access room free of charge back at La Playa. We loved it so much we wanted to stay on, so they gave us the room at the same price as the non pool access rooms for an extra 2 nights. I spent my birthday there and was told to come to the restaurant that night. When i went they then said to go back to our room. Five Minutes later there was a knock at the door and the Head Chef with 3 others had a cake with candles and a laptop playing happy birthday. It's those small touches that make for a great experience. Spacious, clean, nicely furnished room with the classic huuuuuge thai king size bed, the A/C worked well after a couple of visits from the repair man, and cable T.V. Pool is amazing, especially when you can walk in from your own balcony. Breakfast was ok, all the usual sought of fare. The hotel itself is a couple of minutes walk to town, restaurants and beach, and staff very very friendly and helpful and were happy to organise a hire motorbike to be dropped off and picked up from the hotel. We hadn't been to Ao Nang before. It's beautiful as is most of Thailand. There is not much to do in town itself (which is no bad thing) other than the usual shopping and restaurants with a few bars, and some great street food, though we both got a dodgy belly. There are a lot of boat trips and tours leaving from the beach to surrounding islands etc. Thank you to all the staff and manager!!

Room Tip: Pool access room all the way...if you can.

Me and my partner stayed in Krabi La Playa from 23rd Oct 2013 to 27 Oct 2013. The staff were great and helped us when they could. Me and my partner had no problems with the language barrier either. The room was clean, and our sheets/towels etc changed on request. The food and drink prices of the hotel are rather expensive for Thailand as a 10% service charge is added on as well as 7% tax! Breakfast buffet is average, something to choose from all the time, but the butter is left in little pots (not refridgerated or covered) so if you're a little anal like me, this wasn't great. I advise to go to the local restaurants on either side of the hotel (Ao Nang or Nopparat). Both beaches are great, but on the Nopparat side, you get less hassle to buy things but there is a lot less on this side. I can most definitely recommend eating at The Frog and Catfish. Its perfect for a romantic meal, this restaurant is a little far from the hotel but if you email the owner (who is British) from their reservation section on the website, he arranges a private taxi to pick you up and drop you off once youve eaten your meal for 800 bht. Sounds pricey but trust me, completely worth it for the food and him and his wife's hospitality. We booked our hotel trips through 'Hotel Beds' and did the elephant trek, tiger temple, emerald pool and hot springs. It was an excellent day out..take mosquito repellant and lots of water as when its hot its pretty draining, but completely worth it.
We also had a traditional Thai massage at the hotel, I cant fully remember the price (i think it was around 600/700 bht for the both of us) extremely reasonable and a wonderful experience. My partner isnt much of a massage person but he thoroughly enjoyed this!
Overall we both enjoyed our stay at Krabi La Playa, and felt welcome and safe.
Oh the wifi is only available in the lobby, around the pool and the restaurant, although this suited us well.

Room Tip: All rooms appeared quiet as the hotel wasn't very busy. Air con worked excellent and not noisy!

We have just returned from a 12 night stay at Krabi La Playa resort, staying from 11th September until 23rd September 2013.

The staff are friendly and helpful, their English isn't great, (nor is our Thai) but if they don't understand you, they will go and fetch someone who can.

Our room was spacious, but the decor was tired and the beds were hard. The shower was huge and really powerful which was great. We did find that the rooms were not always cleaned thoroughly, still finding sand every where and the remnants of a drink that was spilt on our first night, still remained the day we left. We also were left without any towels on two occasions, which was very frustrating. However, we complained and this was rectified straight away.

Breakfast wasn't great and there wasn't a lot of variety, so we only ate breakfast twice at the hotel during our stay.

There is no bar at the hotel apart from the pool bar, which is a shame as it would have been nice to have a drink before going out in the evenings.

The pool area is nice and spacious, but could do with some renovation and updating.

The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the centre of Ao Nang and the beach.

Overall the hotel was fine for our needs, as we were travelling, however, If you want luxury, we would recommend you stay else where.

Happy to have spent a week in delightful Ao Nang. Booked this hotel on the net from traveller recommendations. Resort style hotel is relatively new and close to shopping, eating places and beaches. Rooms are large and well furnished. Many little extras were a surprise. The pool area is really excellent.with 3 separate pools. Had an issue with TV reception that was attended to immediate land rectified. Breakfast was below average variety but adequate in quantity. Staff are as usual Thai people, happy, friendly and are keen to go out of their way to make ones stay most pleasant.

Room Tip: We would recommend a room with a view of the swimming pools.

Was staying there from 08 sept 2013 to 11 sept 2013. Good location as it away from main street (less then 5min walk). Staff are very helpful , rooms are clean and big, shower area are big, swimming pool are big ( they provide beach balls in the pool too) . There are some room with link directly to the swimming pool if you need. The gym consist of some free weights and track mill. Wifi area are lobby, restaurant and pool area (free, do get ID and password from hotel staff) hotel itself do provide massage if you are too lazy to go out to the streets. Breakfast are international kind . You can ask for Krabi map from hotel if you need one and there are tour agent in the hotel if you need to go island hoping ( there are more tour agent need the beach if you need to check out price). Walking out to main street there a big mini mart (if you forget to bring any stuff, can try buying there). Opp main street there a few street stores which open around 10am to 9pm sell local Thai food like BBQ fish, chicken and cook food (try it , it nice). There a cheap and nice sea food restaurant 15min away from hotel call Wang sai seafood (must try) walk to main road turn right , walk down the street. You can see it opposite of the road.

Room Tip: Ask for room 104 if you like BIG bed . It bigger than king size
