“Great location and big rooms”
Reviewed 20 February 2014 via mobile

Just returned from 11 nights at this hotel, it is in the best location for getting to the beach, restaurants and bars tucked out of the way, at the better end of Ao Nang.
Katie the Front Office Manager is fabulous she welcomes you with a big smile and it continues through your stay, also she is very efficient and accommodating. all the staff are pleasant . If staying try to get a room on the 3rd floor and above, they have large balconies and are spacious, odd little tired bits, but ok.

we (wife & I plus son and partner) weren't due to stay here but this became our second choice when our travel counsellor 'phoned a few weeks before we were due to leave for Karon beach in west Phuket to say building works at an adjoining hotel may make our stay less enjoyable!

The decision on the Playa was, therefore, taken quite quickly.

We were told because of the late change there were no upgrades available (we'd chosen a pool room in Karon beach) so were expecting the worse. Needlessly, as it turned out.

It's not 5* luxury but more than adequate. The staff are, without exception, friendly, helpful and courteous, the large [4th floor] room was spotless and comfortable. Breakfast should satisfy most tastes - buffet style; we chose to have lunch at the hotel given the temperature and it is as inexpensive as eating out and the Thai curries were superb.

The two large pools and sunbeds were never too crowded - we often had the top pool to ourselves and swam 25m lengths uninterrupted. The hotel caters for all age groups and we were surrounded by holiday makers from many different countries; no one group dominated.

Although only 5 minutes from the bussling streets, it is quiet and relaxing. 5-10 minutes to the beach (depending upon which direction you chose)....take a short cut through the Krabi Resort hotel opposite.

There was no need to pay for in-room wifi - the free lobby facility was fault free

Totally relaxed; pleased with the choice.

Room Tip: 5th floor has sea views

We booked to stay at La Playa for our honeymoon and stayed there from the 1st-12th Feb this year. The staff were friendly, the hotel was clean, breakfast was tasty and there was lots to choose from and we were more than happy with our choice.
One member of staff in particular, Pond, made us feel welcome from the start and always took the time out to find out what we were up to for the day and always found us to ask how the day had gone. This was a lovely touch and Pond is a credit to the hotel.
We had a pool access room at the end of our holiday which was great.
We would definitely recommend it and would stay there again.

Room Tip: The pool access rooms are great, but standard rooms are also fantastic.

We, 2 couples late 60s,stayed at the La Playa in Jan. as part of a 2 centre Thai holiday along with Khao Lak, having previously stayed in Phuket and other parts of Thailand.
The hotel was a good choice being clean comfortable and having very pleasant and friendly staff. It is centrally situated having good access to all Ao Nang has to offer, inc. numerous restaurants, The only downside was that the closest beach was not very good and the sanitation in Ao Nang is not all it could be! The far south side of the beach (20min walk) is excellent but we did not discover it until the last day.
We had 1 full day trip to the 5 Islands for which we hired a long tail boat for £50 which was excellent value.
Breakfast at the hotel was good, as was the choice for lunch ,but we tended to eat out and were never disappointed. The Hilltop is particularly recommended.
I would recommend this hotel to everyone except those who really want a beachside holiday and I would definitely stay there again, subject to this reservation.

We booked this mid-range hotel as the middle stop in our Andaman Sky tour of the region. We didn't want to spend too much, as we booked a lot of activities from Ao Nang, including several private trips laid on directly ny our agent, of which we enjoyed the private guide to Railay the best (the other good one was the private taxi ride to Krabi Town, where we visited the walking street market and the Tiger Cave temple. The La Playa is a solid mid-range resort, nothing really luxurious but good value for money in a great location, quiet but near all the restaurants, shops and bars, of which there are loads in Ao Nang, which we enjoyed as the touristy destination of our trip around the region.

Room Tip: Book as part of an Andaman Sky island hopping trip

We arrived Saturday night had booked a pool access room, check in smooth girls very friendly. Opened the door all could here was a shocking Elvis impersonator screeching out we laughed but were assured that it would finish by 11. The room was large but tired and the access to the pool in our particular room 111 was very difficult although the other pool access rooms were better. If you see on certain websites you have internet access in deluxe pool rooms free in rooms this is not true!! It is only if you can pick up lobby, pool bar internet and then it's very slow you have to pay to guarantee it in your room.also some websites are saying you get jacuzzi on pool deluxe rooms this is also NOT true, no jacuzzis anywhere!! The pool area is nice with swim up bar, grounds well kept. Cleaning of rooms not great towels etc changed floors swept but nothing dusted round so still felt unclean.
The resort is a package holiday destination, that's the feeling you get.
Breakfast same everyday not great better to go elsewhere we didn't really
use it not good although outlook by pool nice.
The resort was fairly quiet considering it was full so no complaints there.
Reception staff friendly and were happy to help although they had to ask manager everything! It seemed they were only there to check in and out anything else they had to go and see manager in back office. We needed things printing and every time we went we had to wait for manager which only seemed to be there at odd times we had to laugh not sure if this manger existed really. Perhaps staff need to have more access to simple emails to print without having to see my manager!
In all a pleasant stay not sure if I would go again but wouldn't put anyone off as long as your are aware of the points raised.p

We stay at la playa in January 2014 at the end of a months stay in Thailand we stayed for 2 nights.
We booked a standard room and were very grateful to get upgraded to a swim up room.
The room was very large and clean with a new large flat screen t.v
The pool accessed from the balcony was large enough to swim in and at the far end you could order drink from the swim up bar in the main pool.the water was quite deep so maybe not ideal for young children but the access gate did have a bolt on it.
Breakfast was ok nothing special
Tip for people booking this hotel ask for room 108 it has the swim up balcony you can also get free wifi on the balcony and it stays in the sun the latest
