Actually I visited this hotel in Nov 2008 but still wish to share the experience at here^^
If you wish to have a relax holiday, you will definitely love Alis.
Alis located in a quiet street, but that doesn't mean it is far away from the main street of Aonang, everything is within walking distance.
The room is clean, tidy & cozy but I dont like their light in the night, it is abit dark.
I'm delighted by their bathroom with rainforest shower head, enjoy showering evertime :p
However there are some part the hotel would need to improve: (1) the breakfast with limited choices (2) mosquito or fly at the lobby & dining area
Overall Alis would be a nice boutique hotel which I will recommend!!

Based on reviews on booking.com we made a reservation but it turned out to be a big dissapointment! Old hotel, dirty, very dirty pool (green and black). The room was spacy but doors couldn't close, airconditioning was leaking and vaporizing/damping, wooden bath for which we paid extra didn't function but above all the room was smelling terribly!! They masked the dirty and humid smell with a very strong chemical soap smell. After complaining the staff agreed to our complaints and offered us another room, we checked 4 rooms... all smelled terrible, this time without the soap flavor.... we did not accept the other rooms offered which the staff could agree to... after calling with the owner in Bangkok no refund was "possible".... we checked out....

We stayed here for two nights in early November 2011. It was a last minute booking due to the flooding situation in Bangkok we couldn't go to our original prebooked hotel and had to take this place in order not to loose money spent with travel operator
Firstly Ao Nang itself isn't much of a destination, pay the extra baht and go to Phi Phi, Railey or Koh Lanta which are all easily accessible and heaps nicer.
The hotel itself was by far the most pricey place we stayed on our 1 month stay in Thailand and also the poorest value for money.
Our room wasn't particularly clean, marks on the toilet and what looked like a bloodstain on the shower curtain. At breakfast we also noticed the cutlery provided was filthy and the pool didn't look particularly clean either. Breakfast really wasn't that great.
The price per night should indicate a better standard than this. We got better value everywhere else we went.

The hotel was like a abandoned dilapilated hotel with broken woodeb bathtub!
No signs of upgrading and seems that we have booked the whole hotel as we are the only occupants when we checked in! The Hotel reception was very helpful and friendly of cos .... Normally we should get upgraded to better room but instead we paid for the most expensive room and we have to request to downgrade to a cheaper room bcos aircom wasnt working and bathtub cant be used and aso the overhead rain shower wasnt functioning well w/o water coming out and leaking out instead!
Upon booking (Very fast in getting the transaction done and payment made as we cancelled two nights and they acknowledge refund and been more than 6 weeks no news and email from them when we returned even when we email them to enquire about the refund... Haiz. Wonder will the refund for 2 nights be back....

The rooms are clean and tidy but the rest of the hotel does need a bit of love and tender care. The floors around the pool area need urgently a wash and the bathrooms around the pool area and lobby need to be cleaned and the garbage cans collected.

It is really sad as the hotel itself is beautiful, it has an open area when you go through the lobby which is very inviting, but when you start going up the stairs towards your room and pass through the pool, you start noticing these little things. I am not a picky person, but this was a bit much.

I hope that the management team at the hotel get a chance to read this review and do something about it, because as I say the hotel is beautiful and the staff is very friendly, but when you see things like this, it makes you go hmm!

There were a few days were the some of the fruit platters during breakfast were full of tiny ants. Luckily they did clean everything up after it was pointed out to them.

I paid over 2,000 THB a night for a room which was not worth it. I have stayed at a cheaper hotel and had much better service. Thank god I only stayed for 1 night otherwise I would be quite depressed. The design and decors are lovely. However, the pool was dirty which is very unfortunate because it's located on the rooftop and I was really looking forward to just laying out by the pool. The hallway could use some more lights because it's a bit dark during the day. The breakfast selection was poor. They had yakisoba (Fried noodle), sausages, cornflakes, salad, yogurt, and toasts for breakfast. The AC in the room was very loud to the point that I had to turn it off periodically throughout the night. My room was right next to the janitor's closet and they left the door opened all the time for some reason. The best part about the hotel is probably the free 24/7 high speed internet, which is allowing me to write this review at the moment.

Reviewed 20 February 2010

On the 3rd day of our stay, I was dismayed to discover that the outdoor oak bath wouldn't fill more than half even though we'd left the tap on for 20mins. Water kept leaking through the gaps causing the floors to flood. The staff was most apologetic when I reported the problem, and got us another room within an hour. This experienced pretty much spoiled an otherwise OK stay at this hotel.

What we liked:
1) 10 mins walk to the beach
2) Plenty of Thai fusion restaurants nearby
3) 5 mins walk to the "mini-bus" stop (50B one-way to Krabi town). The "mini-bus" looks like a mini-lorry with a roof on the back.
4) Super-firm mattress to straighten the back (well, at least I liked this!)

What we disliked:
1) Inconsistent service levels - our room was not cleaned on one of the days; on one of the days we received 3 bath towels instead of 2 bath towels and 2 face towels.
2) Inconsistent facilities within the same class of room - I noticed that the 2nd room we were moved to did not have a tall table to place the drinks tray; but had a basket for guests to carry their belongings to the beach.
3) Poor maintenance - In the 1st room: missing bed knob, leaky bathtub; in the 2nd room: torn shower curtain
4) Safes in both rooms were locked when we moved in, so the poor maid had to lug an unlocked safe to each room.

What we tolerated:
1) Ants - well, it's a tropical country so we expected this. We controlled them by spraying anti-mosquito sprays (containing DEET) on them, and ensuring nothing sweet was left in the open. We kept the doors and windows closed most of the day, so we didn't encounter mosquitoes and therefore didn't really need to bring citronella candles from home.
2) Breakfast - the breakfast table typically consists of bread, butter, 2 types of jam, cornflakes, coco crunch, 1 type of fruit, and a Thai dish (rice and 1 side dish, or noodles). Occasionally there may be 1 other dish like cake. The staff offer to cook eggs for guests but we didn't try this.

Overall, I feel that the only thing that is "boutique" about Alis Hotel is the decor. Apart from that there's nothing really boutique about it because it seriously lacks attention to detail. If you're really bent on staying here, go for a room without an oak bathtub. But if you were going to do that, you may as well consider other hotels - there are plenty choose from in Aonang!
