I stayed here for 4 nights. The location is good except there are no good convenience stores nearby. There is one little shop near the main road that is overpriced. The hotel itself has character and feels like a large home. The style is European and it's very nice. The rooms were a good size but I was disappointed that the balcony was so small and had no chairs to sit on.

The good things were: nice shower, good size bathroom, comfortable beds and good working AC units. There were a few English channels on the cable including HBO. The pool was really nice with lots of sun and comfortable chairs. The pool does not have drink / food service even though there is a bar up there no one was working.

The not so good things: no elevators - something to consider if you have mobility issues. Also, the walk up to the hotel is on an incline so that could be tough. The doors and windows had gaps so we had some bugs and a gecko in our room. Mosquitos were not out while we were there but it could be a major annoyance if there were many mosquitos. The room was not as clean as I had hoped. When I checked in one of the coffee mugs was dirty and sticky. The balcony area was very dirty and was unsuitable to hang bathing suits and towels to dry.

Another disappointment was there is no in-room safe. Bring a lock for your suitcase or luggage.

The breakfast was fine, nothing special. It would have been nice if the eggs were kept warm. Wifi is available only in the lobby and pool area.

This hotel was good, but different from other hotels in Ao Nang in that the staff does not provide much in the service department. They were friendly and nice but there are no extras here. That's not necessarily bad - it just depends on what you are looking for. Overall it was a good experience. I would stay here again but I'm not sure it would be my first choice.

I spent 7 nights at this hotel and found it to be very good. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Rooms were better than most I've stayed in before for the same price. Breakfast was ok, good start for the day. The pool is a bit small but welcoming after a day out.

overall the hotel was ok, the location was great, just off the main strip in Ao Nang, the rooms were ok, we had a romance room with a bathtub on the balcony. maybe it was our expecations but it wasn't that nice. the breakfast was ok if you had toast, the fried eggs were cooked and left on the side so they went cold. there were about 4 people eating breakfast when we were there so not sure why the chef didnt cook the eggs on request so save wastage and moaning clients.

the infinity pool is nice, shame the view is blocked by the hotel over the road...however it was still a nice pool area, clean and had sunbeds. we were the only people using the pool whenever we were there. the hotel was really quite. we hardly saw anyone.

We were a bit hesitate to book this hotel because most of the good reviews are all the way from 2007, and poor reviews recently; but it surely did not disappoint. We were given a corner Romance Club room, sea view and nicely decorated, romantically. We were here during the low session, and had the whole infinity pool to ourselves.

Plus:
+ lovely bathtub at the balcony, big enough for 2; it's also private enough especially at night
+ nice infinity pool
+ 5 minutes walk to the main street and beach
+ i can feel the sincerity of the hotel owner's design and deco.
+ low density
+ affordable

Ok:
= clean enough
= service, good enough and i'm not expecting a 5-stars service

Minus:
- breakfast? what breakfast?
- the window open to the neighbouring hotel's pool (or to some, that could be a plus?)

side-note:
we had a problem with the hotel arranged cab didn't pick us up from the airport, not sure what when wrong but rather just get a cab from airport on arrival at the same price, or just take the shutter bus.

Don't hesitate to contact me for more info.

We were driving and had not made a booking anywhere. Many hotels we called into to look at were either full, too expensive or downright grotty. I checked Tripadvisor and thought we would have a look at the Alis. It was empty ... well, two other guests. The staff were polite and the room clean and comfortable. We, as planned only stayed one night and after a perfectly good sleep and OK breakfast I can recommend this hotel. There is a huge telecommunications tower on the roof so if the possible health risks (?) associated with this bother you, you may wish to book elsewhere.

Stayed at Alis Hotel for 5 nights in January '13. Very affordable hotel just afew mins walk from the town centre. On first impressions, the lobby is quite dull & appearance is dated. The bedrooms however are tastefully decorated with a boutique theme & appear to be recently redecorated. We booked a romance club room which had an outdoor wooden bathtub & upstairs balcony. Our room was absolutely spotless & room was serviced every day. We had originally booked to stay 2 nights but decided to stay an additional 3 as we felt it was good value for money, compared to other hotels in the area. The hotel was very quiet, bearing in mind it was peak season - we could not figure out why the hotel was so quiet as we appeared to be 2 of just a handful of guests staying there. For several days we were the only people at the outdoor pool. Breakfast is basic but nice. It is a self service buffet & a hot breakfast is available also. The only downfall is, staff are not overly friendly & really should make a better effort with their guests. Other than that, nice hotel & we would recommend it.

Room Tip: Choose a romance club room with an outdoor wooden bathtub

The Alis hotel is in a good location, close to the centre but not immediatly on the beach. The rooms are spacious and tastefully decorated. I found the hall of the hotel and the corridors a little dark, giving the impression of it being poorly cared for. however the rooms are clean and well kept. the breakfast is very nice, one of the best ones I had during the holiday. The staff were ok but not overly friendly. We had a problem with our booking, which was a mistake of Asia rooms and they were a little hesitant in helping us out. I would reccomend you double check your booking direct with the hotel.
