We spent 3 nights at the tropical herbal resort and were really disappointed by it - the website looked so nice but the reality was a resort in need of some care and attention, the whole place had a tired feel to it and what could have been so nice just wasn't. The room was fine - very large four poster bed, fridge, TV, Aircon. The outdoor bathroom was a bit grubby, the concept is good but it needs freshening up and a bit of redecoration ( by the way there is no privacy for use of this bathroom - if you go with a friend then you will be much more intimately aquainted by the time you come home!)
The pool is lovely but again just a bit tired (broken loungers, no cushions, no towels).
We were there at the begining of Feb 08 - there was a building site next door which by the look of things had several more months work to be done on it.

This place is great. It's set upon beautiful grounds, and each villa offers extreme privacy. You can even put up barriers if you want extra privacy. The room is tastefully decorated and each has its own outdoor jacuzzi which can fit up to 3 people. The staff is very friendly and breakfast is good.
However, I would advise not to visit this place during the rainy season. We stayed here 3 days and it rained nonstop for 3 days. The bathroom is outside, so it can be quite dangerous going down the steps in the middle of the night in the rain. Also, the steps leading up to the villas around the grounds are made of wood and in desperate need of repair. I slipped on one and cut open my big toe. It's also dangerous because there are virtually no lights outside to guide you, making it very easy to slip and fall. Also, the restaurant isn't open for dinner during the off season. If they repaired the steps this place would be great.

My family stayed in a villa located nearer the swimming pool. That was good as we did not have to climb all the way upslope. We loved the swimming pool, specially when it had been a hot afternoon. Also enjoyed the strong evening breeze at the verandah. Friendly and hospitable staff. Enjoyable Thai massage. Overall, had a relaxing and tranquil time surrounded by landscaped trees and plants. Even had freshly squeezed watermelon and pineapple juices during breakfast. The off thing were the mosquitoes ! Would recommend for honeymooners, couples and singles.

I have just returned from my honeymoon in Thailand, and staying at this small, but perfect resort was one of the highlights.

If you want to stay at a large resort with hundreds of other tourists in the centre of the action then don't stay here. If you don't like nature or walking up a steep hill through beautiful gardens to get to your room, don't stay here.

However, if you want personalised, delightfully thai service, stunning garden and jungle setting, views of the ao nang rock formations, tranquility (and privacy - with i think only 9 villas in the resort) and excellent value for money, stay here. I can't imagine there to be a better value for money resort in krabi.

We originally scheduled to stay our first 3 nights at the resort, then move on to phuket and phi phi. We did this, but after leaving this resort and spending 6 nights in phuket (kamala beach) and phi phi (erawan palms) - which we also liked quite a lot, we couldn't wait to come back to this resort; which we did for the last 2 nights of our honeymoon and couldn't be happier with this decision.

It has a certain charm that really makes you feel like you are in Thailand, not just another resort. I think what makes the difference is the staff - they are just so friendly and good humoured (indeed very funny) - they like having a chat with you and you don't feel like just another tourist. There is also great attention to detail in what they do, plentiful staff to attend to your every need (including free transfers to town, help carrying bag up the steep slope to your room - trust me, this is needed).

I particularly liked the beautiful private outdoor bathrooms which you share with the local frogs, lizards and even squirrels surprisingly. I am from Australia and am used to nature - but there was nature in bucketloads here, and all very friendly and cute! I recommend you stay in the rooms at the top (i think 'deluxe') - where nature is at its most bountiful, there is the most privacy and views (from room 9 in particular).

The meals were also good value (compared to down the road) and good quality.

The only minor drawback for us was a bit of construction work next door (which looks like its almost finished) - it marred the walk from the centre of town a little bit and occasionally was a little bit noisy. In saying this however, as soon as you enter the resort, with its lush gardens, butterflies flying by your face, together with the staffs' friendly faces and the designer pool surrounded by large palm trees, you immediately forget about any noise and enter into a serene new world.

Needless to say, this resort is highly recommended if you want to relax and enjoy nature and real thai hospitality!

We stayed at the Tropical Resort & Spa for 4 days and had a great time. The resort is set in lush greenery with a 'back to nature' kind of feeling. Its a half hour car ride from the airport, and 5 minute ride to Aonang Beach. There are only 9 villas on the property - all of them well spaced out, giving the feeling of exclusivity. We read reviews online that the spa is one of the best in Krabi and we were not disappointed. We took the Honeymoon package, a 4 hour package for 4000 THB each that included a floral bath, a body scrub, aromatherapy massage and aromatherapy facial. We also did a foot massage (700THB each) after an afternoon out shopping, and it was good. The resort is located about 800 metres from Aonang Beach, the main thoroughfare, but we had no problems getting to the beach as the hotel provided complimentery transters. Coming back, we hopped onto a "tuk tuk" that costs only 20 baht per person. The staff at the Resort are warm and friendly. The receptionist, Paan, is very helpful, not to mention funny, and is quick to offer advice on where to eat and what to do in Krabi. Except for breakfast, we did not eat at the hotel restaurant, but there was little reason to - Aonang being a short ride away. Staff were all friendly and helpful with nice little touches like offering iced water while you're sunbathing at the pool, or cook to order meals.

Here are some tips to make your stay more enjoyable: Tip: 1) Use the aroma oil burner in the room that acts as an effective mozzie repellent. 2) Paan's dad owns a longtail boat. He took us out for a 4 hour trip to one of the islands for snorkeling - good personalised service. Ask her if you wish to hire a longtail boat.

Enjoy your stay!
