“Relaxed, quiet but not well maintained as it could be”

Nice relaxed, and you can often get the place to yourself. I like the atmosphere as there are very few rooms, nice staff, lovely garden, and decent location as it's between Ao Nang and Nopparat Thara Beach-one commercial and one a national park so you get a nice choice. It's about 15 mins walk to either and motor bike taxis are 40B for 2.We stayed here in 2008 & 2010 and I noticed how it had gone down in standard slightly e.g. wooden sunloungers replaced with white plastic ones, and the pool has green round the rim of the pool-it needed a good clean.I had a bit of a rash after bathing there so I left for the Cha-Am after a week.Service is slow, but the food very nice-breakfast is just OK though. Rooms are OK but if you have a baby they charge you for the cot(I didn't agree with this), and the steps outside and in the room keep you on your toes.I don't think you'll be disapointed, but not as good as it was and there is more competiton now.If you want small and exclusive then book away.

I stayed at Duang Jai with 2 friends for 6 nights and I have to say it is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at.

The hotel staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived to the moment we left.

The pool area of the hotel is very private and surrounded by lush gardens, with the constant sound of birds, frogs and other wildlife. The swimming pool itself is pretty large for a hotel of this size and has a jacuzzi in one corner. There are plenty of comfortable sun-loungers along one side of the pool.

The rooms are a good size and spotlessly clean. We stayed in "Pool View" rooms, which are on the upper floor of the hotel and have a good-sized balcony overlooking the pool area. The lower floor rooms all have a patio area instead of a balcony.

The food in the hotel was very good. A nice little touch is that they provide free tea, coffee, juice, cakes and biscuits in the restaurant area at about 3pm every day.

It is located in a quiet location, a short walk inland away from the headland between Hat Nopparat Thara and Ao Nang Beaches. It is only a 10 minute walk to the quiet Hat Nopparat Thara beach and the junction which leads ino Ao Nang. Ao Nang beach is probably another 5 minutes walk, but there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants along the way.

I'm really finding it difficult to thick of any bad points, but if I had to find one criticism, it would be that there was a slightly unpleasant smell wafted through the pool area a few times which I presume was coming the stream which runs along a ditch next to the hotel. However, this is probably nitpicking as there wasn't any rainfall at all during our 2 week stay in the area, so I would imagine the water in the stream had become a little stagnant.

Overall, I would say this has to be one of the best value-for-money hotels I have ever stayed at and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

This hotel is in a quiet location between Ao Nang (very busy) and Noppharat Thara (much more peaceful) so you can choose which direction to spend your time. It's a short walk to the beach but you can take a free ride from the hotel if you wish. Similarly the busy shops and cafes of Ao Nang are only a walk away. A tuktuk costs 40 baht if you need it and there are plenty.

The Duangjai Resort is a Thai style building, with two levels of rooms around a pool, and the pool is surrounded by beautiful lush planting so it's very green and private. (Most rural hotels here are called resort even though they don't have extra facilities). We arrived by hotel shuttle from Krabi airport and received a pleasant welcome from the staff with a cool drink. We were taken to our room on the ground floor and the amenities were explained to us. The room and pool were spotlessly clean and the staff very helpful so it was all very relaxing. We had a large comfortable bed, ample furniture and cool tiled floors. Steps led down to the kitchen/bathroom area, this could be a little dodgy if you have to get up in the night. There was also a small green garden at the rear of the room. The kitchenette was very small and basic. There was a safe in the wardrobe, but the wardrobe was a little frustrating as it had rather clunky sliding doors which needed manoeuvring to get to the hanging space or the safe. The TV had many channels but these were mainly Asian - we eventually found BBC World News which was on a different channel to that listed. A couple of times we had to ask to have our room made up (around 1pm) but each time they did this straightaway.

Breakfast was included and was good. There were plenty of books but almost all were in Swedish as this area attracts them in great numbers. We ate just down the road one night and then subsequently used other restaurants - we enjoyed the Italian restaurant at Ao Nang very much called Laluna.

All in all a good choice for us.
