“Fabulous place, good service and needs all taken care of!”
Reviewed 1 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

Location: Not the main area but only 15mins away drive from Ao Nang town (included) .
30 mins away from airport (included)
Facilities: EXCELLENT
Service: PROMPT & CONSIDERATE
Villa condition: NEW & WELL MAINTAINED

Our group of 7 arrived at the airport with the staff waiting for us there and they drove us to a supermarket to get all the necessities and food we needed and drove us back. When we arrived, we were very delighted that we had chosen the right villa!

The staff welcomed us with drinks and cold hotels in front of the pool at the entrance of our villa. The place was very new and well maintained. The owner, Fon, welcomed us and brought us around the villa and handed us a mobile phone that we can contact her if we have problems.

The villa had good TVs and sound systems, very cosy rooms, fully equipped kitchen (and BBQ pit!!) , private pool (with lots of floats for us to play with!) , pool beds (with shades!), loaded refrigerator, and a lot of small details like traveller plug, drinking water dispenser, hair dryer in every room, entertainment like Frisbee, proper drying racks.... I cannot finish the list. You can find everything you need even if you were to live there.

Fon was very prompt with our requests and we had to trouble her many times to help us when we had problems with our TV and requesting for transport arrangement.

The villa may be off the main action area, but with transport included, its not an issue. Moreover, we felt the stay was too short and it was a pity we did not enjoy the villa to our fill!

“Terrible service and problems with property in a lovely location”
Reviewed 8 July 2013 for a stay in June 2013

Our Experience with Krabi Villa Company at Villa Saifon

First off, apologies for the length of this review. I generally don’t write negative reviews – see my other reviews – but our experience really needs to be fully explained to understand the negative rating.

In case you are short on time, here is a summary:

- It is a lovely villa – with terrible management and service
- Don’t trust Krabi Villa Company – even their contract isn’t worth the paper it’s written on and their staff repeatedly lied to us
- If you want to come to the villas, then make sure you’re happy to pay and keep on paying for average service OR do everything yourself and don’t rely on them for anything
- Get a guarantee that there will be power and A/C (unfortunately I’m not sure that such a guarantee is worth anything)
- Pray you don’t have any issues that you need their help rectifying
- Don’t touch the sink!

Here is the long version:

A group of 16 friends stayed at Villa Saifon 3 and Villa Saifon 5 in June 2013. We chose the property partly based on the rave reviews here on TripAdvisor. After our experience I can only conclude that these positive reviews are people related to the owners or the management company as I find it impossible to believe that others have not had experiences similar to ours.

Our views of the services we received are nearly laughably poor, but I will try to provide as balanced a review as possible lest people reading this believe that our group was full of “difficult” customers with unrealistic expectations.

On that point, everyone in our group are seasoned travelers who work in the travel industry or hospitality. This includes a number of airline staff as well as owners of vacation rental properties and the managers of these properties. We all understand and appreciate that there are sometimes issues – particularly with new properties – but our issues with the business practices of Krabi Villa Company far outweigh any positives.

Let me start with some positives – the properties are located in a beautiful part of the world and are of a high specification. Both villa’s are roomy and have lovely pools overlooking an amazing rock formation. The kitchens are mostly well appointed and the rooms comfortable (other than my specific points below).

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with a very nice Buddhist blessing ceremony followed by a feast of roast suckling pig. This was an amazing highlight of our stay. It wasn’t cheap however, which is a repeated pattern that we experienced with Krabi Villa Company.

When we booked both Villas, we naturally asked for a group discount and was offered around 15% off. At that time we only had 14 people confirmed but our booking confirmation was clear in that we were booking Villa Saifon 3 for 6 people and Villa Saifon 5 for 10 people (see attached pictures of booking forms).

Upon arrival we were informed that we had to pay more as there were now 16 in our party. The Villa Company Manager, Mark Rawlings was aggressive, rude and repeatedly ignored his own paperwork to claim that we were in the wrong and he was in the right. Our options were put to us in no uncertain terms that we could either cancel our booking and forfeit our 50% deposit or pay the revised amount – this while 16 people are sitting in the hot sun not able to move into the villa!

At this time Mr Rawlings repeatedly emphasized that the villas were “the best in Krabi” and “five star” – claiming over and over that all their guests are “blown away by the five star service” and that we would want for nothing.

Not having any real choice, we reluctantly agreed and paid the outstanding balance and moved into the property.

We later brought to their attention that the Villa Saifon website actually had a “Pay for 4 nights, get one night free” promotion which was never offered to us. The villa manager Fah claimed that this was the website of the owner, not the management company and that it had nothing to do with them. However when we later sent an enquiry through the website, guess who replied – the villa manager Fah! I don’t know about you, but bare-faced lies are a good way to get me off-side.

Our group are neither precious nor do we demand five-star service, but when it is promised to us (and we feel we are paying extra for it) then we certainly expect a reasonable standard, but we didn’t expect:

- Power that would cut out several times a day and go to emergency mode
- Insufficient power to run air conditioning reliably
- Toilets not flushing (pumps need power to move water apparently!)
- Kitchen sink not being grounded properly and giving random shocks to anyone using it (no, I’m not making this stuff up)
- A/C in master bedroom leaking and not working at all on first day
- Showers not draining properly
- One bathroom drain smelling of sewer gas (seemed like no trap?)
- Smell of electrical wires burning (fixed fairly quickly but worrying)
- Very slow internet (a 3G mobile phone hotspot) that only worked intermittently and stopped working altogether on our last day
- Unfinished pipes sticking up around the pool, perfect for stubbing toes

I have to say that the majority of these issues (other than the power) were mainly with Saifon 5 – we were the first guests to stay in the property after it was finished. I’m sure that most will be rectified but what really bothered us was that the management company didn’t seem to think that most of these were serious issues.

So enough about the property, what about the service? We opted to get the in-house cooking service for breakfast and dinner. We thought this was extremely expensive at 250 baht x 16 people – 4,000 baht per meal (PLUS cost of ingredients). At 5 nights for breakfast and dinner this came to 40,000 baht or nearly $1500 AUD. We know from Thai friends of ours that this would pay for cooking staff for several months! Nevertheless, we were once again promised amazing food and incredible service, so we opted to go for the catered option.

First, let me say that I really don’t want to single out the staff as being the problem – they were lovely people, they just were not trained in how to provide proper service, and certainly nothing like 5-star service.

Some of our issues with the meal service included:

- Food being served cold
- Table not being set
- Table not being cleared
- Dishes not being washed
- 3x the necessary quantity of food being prepared (and wasted)
- No coffee / tea served with breakfast

Lest you think that we are being picky, on our second breakfast for the 10 guests at Saifon 5, the cook first prepared 24 eggs in two large platters of scrambled eggs, then proceeded to let this sit for 30 minutes while she prepared 2 fried eggs for each person (we’re up to 34 eggs now) which then sat on the counter for 30 minutes while she cooked bacon – again put to one side while the other 2 staff looked on – table still not set, no coffee made, no hot water for tea, no toast, no cutlery, etc, etc. As all of the food was now stone cold, we took over at this point and tried to salvage what we could and cancelled breakfast service for the rest of our stay. My advice to anyone considering this is do it yourself as you will end up doing most of it anyway.

Most of the dinners prepared were tasty but nowhere near the best Thai food we had on our trip and half the dishes were served cold as the first dish was always made an hour or more before sitting down.

I should also mention that ALL of these issues were raised with management on our second day by both telephone and email with suggestions on how the issues could be rectified. Responses were either superficial (and not acted on) or we were told that all other guests think the service is great. At one point we were told that we should feel privileged to be guests of the villa.

On the last day of our trip when settling up our bill we were informed that because we needed 3 airport transfers for 16 people, that we would be charged 1000 baht for an additional airport transfer – this was in spite of us organizing all of our own transport to arrive at the villa.

When we asked whether perhaps some of the issues we had experienced deserved some sort of compensation (or even a free airport transfer!) the answer was a flat no, that in their view everything had been perfect.

Once we got home the great experience just continued – we were charged 5000 baht for water damage to a table that was taken outside by one of their staff during the party and got left out overnight.

During the wedding ceremony I told the property manager Fah that we didn’t want any pictures of us or our guests to be taken or used for their advertising. She agreed and said that they would only take pictures of the decorations. After we left I sent an email to Fah repeating my request that none of our pictures be used and got an email back saying that they did in fact take pictures of us and that they would be used in their marketing and it was their ‘right’ to do so. Once again, her earlier promise was a bald-faced lie.

My advice? Avoid Krabi Villa Company!

Cheers and good travelling!

Firstly we would like to point out that this review was intended for the new Villa Saifon 5 Bedroom not Villa Saifon 3 Bedroom.

Villa Saifon 5 bedroom is a brand new beautiful pool Villa which opened its doors for the first time for this booking. There were some small teething problems which are unfortunately sometimes unavoidable, these issues have now been dealt with, however this was reflected in the new Villa discounted promotion rates at the time , and most guests (nice & understanding) would appreciate this and relax and enjoy their holidays. Unfortunately this was not the case with some of these guests, not the whole group as most of them were very nice & understanding, it was just a small group including the booking leader Mr Peter Philip who actually went out of his way to be so negative about everything, including upsetting the management team so much that one of them had to take sick leave. The pictures they took and placed on trip-advisor were self-made, i.e. taking the outside toilet cover screen away so it looked totally open, also there are blatant lies in the review too many to mention.
Undeservingly this booking leader wanted a further discount/refund from the day he arrived until the day he left (which he most likely attempts everywhere he goes and gets) because we could not justify it - hence the 5 page negative review. To all other Villa owners please be aware of this booking name and be very prepared if you accept his booking.
Please look at all the reviews for Saifon 3 Bedroom on Trip-Advisor, plus many more on our own website, they are all positive and always expressing the great service from Fon and her team (the same management team as the new Saifon 5 Bedroom).
Please to reassure you our company offers a very good service, over the years we have had many guests and many reviews all very positive which we are very proud of, out of the hundreds of guests and reviews that we have received, only 2 are so negative, and these were both from this same booking, unfortunately a very very difficult customer.
As always we will continue to offer an excellent service to all our deserving and co-operative guests.

“Good experience overall with some hiccups”
Reviewed 7 July 2013 for a stay in July 2013

I'll keep this short and sweet. Group: 5 people, stayed 4-7 July 2013.

1) Location: Pretty bad, it's in the middle of nowhere but the view is pretty good and 2 trips were provided for us FOC to Ao Nang beach and nearby areas so it was still accessible.

2) Service: We were served by 3 Thai girls and given a phone number to one of the permanent service personnel, Fon. She was really helpful and answered most of our enquiries. Towels were not changed daily though.

3) Pool: Only cleaned on Wednesdays and Saturdays so expect to see several dead insects and compost :D Not a big deal for us since I used the big float to push all the icky stuff into the drainage.

4) Toilets: Apparently in Thailand, they have signs asking people not to throw toilet papers into the toilet bowl... we disregarded this since it was really unhygienic to throw the papers into the basket.

5) Lights: The night light in the second room by the pool kept going from bright to dim to bright and there were a set of lights in the living room which turned off and on for no reason.

6) TV: The 3 sets of cable TV were okay but the living room one started to die on us on the 2nd and 3rd days. The sound will fade for no reason and then pop back in randomly.

7) Amenities: Fridge, kitchen, knives, pots and pans, cutlery were provided. Bring your own skewer and aluminium foil if doing the BBQ-ing yourselves.

8) Supermarket access: The nearest one is Tesco Lotus. Buy your stuff on the way from the airport since there are no supermarkets in the area near the villa, meaning you'd have to pay the driver 800 baht for a return trip to Tesco.

9) Transport: Good. 2-way airport transfers with 2 free return trips daily to Ao Nang and nearby areas.

10) Internet access: They use a 3G dongle sitting in the patio for Wifi. This means limited access and you could only connect and get a good signal in the patio or the dining room table. Not good since Wifi repeaters are cheap and should've been plugged in throughout the villa.

Thank you for your honest review, the good points and also pointing out any defects, as discussed there was some teething problems with the brand new Saifon 5 bedroom Pool Villa adjacent, such as the intermittent power supply to both Villas which the local electricity board have now repaired.
We appreciate you giving Fon and her team 5 stars for their services making your stay enjoyable. We hope to see you again in the future.

“A superb villa in an idyllic location - we hope to return”
Reviewed 8 April 2013 for a stay in March 2013

Villa Saifon is located in an idyllic and quiet location, but close enough to all the attractions of Ao Nang. Beautifully appointed, and Looking out across the pool and the fish lagoon to the limestone mountain makes a truly beautiful setting to enjoy breakfast or a few quiet drinks at the pool bar in the evening. The villa is owned and managed by Fon and Michael who were wonderful hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Fons inhome cooking was superb and thoroughly recomended if you want a quiet night at home rather than head into town for dinner. The daily complimentary fruit bowl was a great way to start the day.

Daily complimentary tuk tuk hire to Ao Nang provides ample opportunity to explore restaurants, shops or the nearby beaches for day trips. The drivers chosen by Fon were all terrific and very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

Fon and Michael have nearly completed another villa next door with it's own pool, so this will become a great place for a big family gathering in the future.

“A paradise we did not want to leave!!!!”
Reviewed 3 April 2013 for a stay in March 2013

Our family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids aged 12 & 16) booked to stay for 4 nights. We wish we had made this our home base for our entire holiday in the Phuket area. While we stayed in some lovely places on the beach and in the jungle, Villa Saifon was by far the best place (and most reasonable) we have ever stayed in. Not only was the location private and had it's own pool, mountain view, waterfall, and every amenity you could ever want, we also had Fon. She was absolutely the best guide, chef, cleaner, friend, and go-to person we encountered on our trip. We would not hesitate for one minute to recommend this oasis and plan to return with our whole family for a one months stay in the near future. Thank you very much for an unforgettable experience!!!!!!

“Absolutely Fantastic stay”
Reviewed 14 March 2013 for a stay in March 2013

Our experience was excellent. The villa is appointed as a super luxurious home, huge flat screen TV's, multiple fancy kitchen appliances, large indoor and out door fridges, state of the art gas grill, smooth Wi FI and many more. Most of the furniture is hand carved wooden and beautiful, there are also massive comfy sofas in the living room. The villa is literally huge with a very big "terrace' next to the dining room and kitchen with a table that sits up to 12 guests and there is also a sala (thai outdoor lounge with sofas) and a a wonderful 20 mt. pool with an artificial waterfall. The surroundings are very peaceful and calm. THe views are great a mix of tailor made gardens with many flowers with wild tropical landscape with mountains as background. The best of all are the people that run the villa, it is super clean and tidy, they are unobtrusive yet warm. and their food is delicious. A big thanks to Khun Fon and her staff!!!! We realy had a great time. We really enjoyed ourselves and would recommend it to anyone. Oh yes the house is a few minutes drive from Ao Nang if you need some action and another few minutes drive to some beautiful quiet beaches.
