We were there after hurricane Sandy tore through the Caribbean. The conditions were okay (vis was okay and we had some currents). We dove with the owners (Glenn and Michele) - great people - very accomodating and lots of knowledge. We enjoyed getting to know them and simply sitting down and talking to them in the morning. When we dove, where we dove and how much we dove was completely up to us - they were very accomodating. A great trip and very relaxing. Thank you guys - we had a great time... and took some great pictures!!!!

Thank Jay L

This is a small but organized and friendly dive center where the customer comes first. When you ask what time the dives leave and to where, you will be asked what time YOU want to dive and where YOU want to go! They also offer Nitrox--quite a feat given the tricky logistics of getting things to Statia.

Michelle responds very quickly to e-mail enquiries and unlike other operators where you need to leave your credit card details, here they trust you to show up when you say you will.

I brought my teenage nephew and niece here and they were amazed at how much better the diving was compared to St. Maarten and St. Martin and how much more friendly than St. Barts. We had the boat to ourselves for the two days we dove here. They had good quality equipment in even small sizes for the kids. Kayley and Glenn took us out. All our equipment was always ready to go when we arrived.

The dive sites are all 5-10 minutes away. Aquarium is perhaps 15-20 minutes away and furthest one. (Note that it can have reduced viz due to run off in the rainy season.) The diving is some of the best in the Caribbean, with lots of fish, stingrays, turtles, soft coral and wrecks.

There is not a lot going on in sleep Statia but if you are serious about diving.,It's worth making the effort to come here and dive with Golden Rock.

I spent a week diving with the Ray,Kayley, and Glen (da owner). I walked every morning from the Old Gin Inn. The morning walk was a nice way to start the day minus the islander's driving like crazies :). We dove mostly on the catamaran and typical did 2 dives sometime 3... Eustatius works on island time so don't plan on getting 3 dives done without some effort. The restaurants stop lunch @ 2pm so be prepared otherwise you are walking up the hill for food. The lava fields, wrecks, and 'aquarium' are good dives sites with plenty to keep you interested for 60mins. Most site took @ 20mins or less to travel to. The British Couple that work for Glen do an excellent job and improved my British slang greatly. I liked Blue Bead, Smoke Alley,Cool Corner, Old Gin Inn for dinner/lunch. Eustatius is a not a resort town but still very charming.

My husband and I have just returned from our fifth visit to Statia, where we dived with Golden Rock Dive Center again (for the fifth time). We love Statia and we always enjoy the diving there as it is very varied and there is always lots to see. Golden Rock - owner Glen and
divemasters Kayley & Ray - are friendly, relaxed, helpful and professional. The operation is small and likes to cater for their customers' needs, always tailoring the dives to the ability and preferences of the divers. We had some great diving over a variety of sites - lava flows, wrecks, wall dive, and our particular favourite - the aptly named "Aquarium".
If you are going diving in Statia we recommend Golden Rock - for great diving - and a really enjoyable experience

My husband and I just returned from Statia, and we dove with Golden Rock Dive Center for 6 days. It was an amazing week of diving with many unforgettable marine encounters. The divemasters/guides, Ray and Kayley were professional, attentive, helpful, and organized. Glen, the owner has lived in Statia for 18 yrs and has several tricks up his sleeve to get some awesome fish behavior photos.

We had a phenomenal night dive at the Chien Tong wreck, where we saw 7-8 giant hawksbill turtles swam up to the wreck and slowly settled into their own sleeping positions. This seemed to be a nightly routine for them (definitely opt for the night dive). Among many places we've dived at including Bonaire, Philippines, Indonesia, Cozumel and Hawaii - Statia offers the most diversified type of diving - from wrecks, walls, beautiful soft/hard coral reefs, lava formations to macro/muck diving. Whether you like pelagic like sharks, rays, turtles, barracudas or macros like blennies, shrimps and jawfish, you can find them at Statia. During our one week trip, we saw countless number of hawksbill turtles, Southern stingrays, barracudas, spotted moray eels, cleaner shrimps, pike blennies and pgymy filefish.

We were also fortunate to encounter a Caribbean reef shark just 4-5' away while it was resting under the bow of the Chien Tong wreck. My favorite dive sites were Chien Tong, Double Wreck (saw 7 reef squids), and wreck city.

It rained almost everyday while we were there in early May, but the rain usually lasted 45min to an hour and it didn't interrupt our dive schedule. After a very heavy rain at night, the viz was quite poor the next morning, however viz cleared up half way during our first dive. We didn't rent equipment but their equipment looked decent. We were on a smaller dive boat, Stumpy which was perfect for our group - 5 divers, plus 2 crew. Most dive sites are about 5 to 10min away. We usually returned back to the dive shop after each dive and they were flexible in terms of when we go out for the second dive.

Overall, we are happy, satisfied customers and we would recommend this dive operation.
If you're a serious diver who prefers a more remote, laidback location that doesn't have tons of tourists from cruise ships and away from the duty free shops, go experience diving at Statia.
