“one of the most stunning bays ive seen anywhere”
Reviewed 15 December 2011

this really is a must see in los cabos . just got back to uk and did this trip quite easily . it took a few hours from san lucas . with a couple of stops .

we took the mountain route and stopped at Los Barilles [sp] on the way , and also a quick stop at El Triunfo [sp] on the way . both neat for a pit stop . old town of ET , and kite surf beach of LB . you can drive onto LB beach .

wouldnt want to do the la paz journey in the dark , roads up over mountains are intersting ! random animals litter roads , workmen on verges diging , narrow, sheer mountain drops with limited armco barriers if at all . definitely do this during the day as others have said !!!!!!!!! there where a lot of wicked thick skid marks off the road along the route - not good and i guess from animals at night .

mountain roads are spectacular tho , youll want to see it during day too . views are epic . lots of peaks , dried river beds , bridges and views .

we found it a nice simple straighforward drive , even tho we had sat nav it really was very simple to do . you could also take the todos santos route but woldnt be as interesting i dont expect , plus the road is being resurfeaced by all accounts and isnt good for a while yet but will be faster when done .

id recommend la paz for 1 very big reason - balandra beach !! WOW WOW WOW . 10 mins drive out of la paz ... one of the msot spectacular bays ive ever seen . no tourism , no commecrcial shiz , 2 or 3 kyaks for rent , 1 beach with 15 locals , plus 4 deserted unreachable beaches [get that kayak!] , one enormous bay that is mostly less than 3 - 5 ft deep right accross with pelicans cormorants etc fishing , and a crazy mushroom rock for an iconic picture moment . telecote beach is next to it ! plus yuo go thru a cactus forest to get to it from the malecon prom .

GREAT DAY OUT ABOSLUTELY A MUST DO . PURE PARADISE . tip : to get there keep the water to your left when leaving malecon and go thru the port . a right turn after port and a left to beach a few miles after [both signed] . view the beach , the bay , and the route on google maps or google earth

here is car park centred on this map

we hired a car from alamo in san jose , left for la paz for a few days ,then returned it in san lucas to finish our holiday [rented from alamo for top price , i just booked it online and collected it next day] . tried to charge us extra for insurance that was incl but after a 5 min debate they waved . con or legit mistake ?? - if it was legit it shouldnt happen again ;)

amazing place ! ill post pics and vids today or tomorrow .

NB ---- there is no facilities there , take drink/food . and bread for gulls ;-)

If you don't have a car, take the beach bus from the station on the Malecon. You just can't miss the most beautiful beach near La Paz!

“A real jewel”

One of the most unspoiled bays we've ever been to. There are no washrooms or food vendors, just a few palapas to shelter from the sun. You can drive there, go with a tour, or as we did, take a local bus to Tecolote and walk the half mile to Balandra. The sand is soft and white, the water is crystal clear, and you can wade out into the shallow water forever. There are several little bays around the bay, so when we were there it felt very quiet. Glorious!
