“Do NOT stay here”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

We stayed here in mid April, 2014. Our room was simple and clean. There was a great flat screen tv and comfortable beds. It seemed to be a good value hotel on the main stretch of beach in LaPaz.

However, around 9pm, loud construction began behind the hotel. Beeping construction vehicles, hammering, men whistling and screaming, loud engines idling, and jack hammering continued into the early hours of the morning. We called and asked to change our room, but the hotel was full. We were not able to sleep at all. I would not recommend this hotel based on our sleepless experience.

Don't be fooled by the photo the beach and the hotel are not connected. However it is in a very good location. The rooms were large and clean and the staff helpful and friendly. However the restaurant service was very very slow and the food was ok. I highly recommend trying the chiliquiles as the salsa is very different from other places.

While Staying in Cabo San Lucas I took the opportunity to see Mexico away from all of the Glitz. What did I find? La Paz and The Hotel Pera. This is a nice Hotel and the Staff are Very Friendly. The Rooms are Nice (Large) and Clean. For the Money this was a very Nice Place to stay. Come To La Paz and Stay here and You will not be disappointed. Come on a Saturday or Sunday and sit on the open veranda or the Open Sidewalk Restaurant downstairs and watch the People walk the Malicon at Dusk. This is quite the thing to see if you have have not seen it. The People Old and Young on the Evening Stroll along the Water way. This was truly one of the Highlights of Our 3 week Adventure in the Baja. The Hotel is very comfortable and the food in the Restaurant is excellent (the Nachos are the Pits). The Band is great and take the time to Dance a little Salsa between the Tables-You may not be alone. Excellent Time at the Hotel Perla. Cost about $75 per Room with the Local Mexican Resident Discount (our Friends are Residence of MX), Get a Local Friend and save 25%

It's been said before, but you can't beat the location if you want or need to stay in La Paz proper. Hotel Perla is situated near many great restaurants, plus you are right on the Malecon. Also convenient to the bus station, several car rentals, and a few realty places. Rooms and common areas are clean, and the staff friendly and helpful. Free valet parking was definitely a plus. Otherwise the hotel is adequate; on par with what you would expect from most mid-range places in Mexico. Definitely not a resort or international hotel-chain vibe, but some of us like it that way.

Room Tip: Try for a room that faces the pool area if you want to avoid street noise.

Hotel Perla is a gem. What started as a shot in the dark turned into a wonderful finale to our Baja vacation. Hotel Perla is perfect for anyone who loves the old Mexico - it is an impeccably maintained mid-century hotel that has managed to grow gracefully with La Paz. Staff were superb, people cleaning floors and walls throughout the day. And being right on the malecon, it and its restaurant were great for people-watching, from early morning to late night. The view of the bay from our room and from the various public seating areas was wonderful. Complimentary breakfast in the open air Terazza restaurant was perfect way to start the day. Enrique the waiter was great.

This hotel is right on the Malcolm, literally footsteps away from all of the action. Rooms are clean, service is friendly, nice view from the balcony, refreshing pool, and two hot tubs. Complementary continental breakfast in restaurant right next door. Beds are comfortable but the pillows are really hard.Very convenient location.

It's at the centre of where you'd want to be but if you're the kind of traveler looking for a boutique hotel with a lot of personality - this isn't it. It's fairly large and while the folks at the desk do what they can to be helpful, it isn't personal... They do give you a basic breakfast with the room which is nice.
