Owner description: Shopping street lined with shops selling imported goods.
Reviewed 16 March 2013

This street is the quintessential business district/shopping hub for locals. If you want to experience a typical Mexican/Baja shopping experience, walk this street as well as the little ones off of it. La Paz is a real place...not a manufactured for tourists town, and these shops exemplify what the locals buy, how they dress, what they eat, etc. It's the real deal....from the stands that sell corn in a cup with crema and hot sauce, to cut fruits in a cup with hot sauce, or coconut pieces in a plastic bag with hot sauce, and of course all the shrimp and fish taco carts, too. Try it all! It's all fresh and delicious. One of my favorite stops is the espresso/bakery on the corner 1 block up from the Malecon. There's also a great Chinese restaurant and shop above it. There are tons of store front windows loaded with everything from designer copy purses, sunglasses, cosmetics, etc. Tons of clothing boutiques line all the streets packed with sexy mini skirts, outrageously high heels made in Mexico, and the oddest looking furniture I've ever
seen. It's great fun to just explore....and don't miss trying watermelon water or one of the other fruit frescas offered like tamarindo. Very refreshing.

The street is relatively interesting. The cultural centre has a nice little cafe called Entre Especias y Cafe. It not only has the best coffee in town but the prices are great too (14p) for a big cup. They also serve breakfast and lunch. The shops are not that unique. It would be good to see some more indigneous art and local artists in this area.

If you need anything at all while in La Paz, head for 16 de Septiembre...along this street and on the many side streets are hundreds of shops offering just about anything. During the holidays there are many enterprising folks with package wrapping services. A fun stroll!
