“Whale Shark Encounter - Great Service”

While in La Paz (before and after sailing trip), seven of us signed up for the whale shark snorkeling trip. This was FABULOUS. James, the owner, was ever so helpful with scheduling the trip and providing above and beyond knowledge about La Paz and surrounding areas. Our guide, Luis, was excellent. He was personable, knowledgeable and helped to make sure we all had a great encounter. The captains (2 boats) were also very helpful and were great at spotting and locating whale sharks for us. If you are ever in the area, I would highly recommend The Cortez Club --- they offer, SCUBA, whale shark, sea lion, fishing and many other water based adventures!

I am an underwater photographer who brings groups to La Paz annually to photograph whale sharks, sea lion, and other marine critters.

We have dove with five or six operators in La Paz, and Club Cortez is one of the two best operators. The have pangas for smaller groups, and a larger twin outboard fishing boat that can hold up to 12 divers.

We are able to dive our own profiles, and generally do not use a dive master, unless we are at El Bajo. This past trip there were hammerheads at El Bajo.

The other good dive sites are: Los Islotes (sea lion, blennies, jaw fish, eel); Swanee Reef (eel, tropicals, Gardner eel); La Reina (longer trip/current, but sometimes large bait ball, eel, tropicals); Salva Tierra wreck (wreck, eel, garden eel, tropicals).

If you drive here, don't be put off by the interesting third world approach: boats and operator are quite good.

Good operation and very flexible. Cost was very high and they seem to want to rush things a little in the cold water months. However, no complaints whatsoever as I pretty much dove the locations I selected. Not ideal to go after March to mid-summer months. The only thing to see are sealions but even then the sealions are more abundant in the late Fall. In addition, they don't however make many recommendations on dive locations during spring months as the wind is blowing, the water is cold, and the main attraction is seemingly only the sealions.

Our family drove from Cabo San Jose about 2 and 1/2 hours to get to La Paz. We joined a few others on a decent, fast boat, and traveled about 20 minutes to the Whale Shark spot. Our captain Adrian did an amazing job of spotting the whale sharks and maneuvering the boat to line us up to jump in and experience them. AWESOME! We were able to get very close and then swim with them. My teens were fascinated and freaked. I loved being able to swim right next to them and feel the kinship (well, sort of). You will never forget this day!
