There were so many bad things about the ferry I'll try to just summarize the top 3. First, the departure time we were given was completely inaccurate. We were told to be at the ferry terminal several hours before a 2am departure (not sure why). After arriving at 10.30pm and waiting for a couple of hours we were told the ferry would not be leaving until 6am. We tried (mostly unsuccessfully) to sleep in the terminal only to find out the time had been pushed back again to 8:30am. Unbelievable! By the time everyone boarded the vessel and we left port it was approx 10:30am, 12 hours after we were told to arrive at the terminal! What a waste of time.
The second issue was that the ferry was crowded and dirty. We did not get a cabin but from the looks of them they weren't that great. However, anything would have been better than the "movie room" the rest of the passengers were crowded into. If for some awful reason I had to use this service again I would get a cabin.
The last of my top 3 reasons this ferry sucked is that the boat itself was not very accommodating to passengers. Besides the crowded seating and limited bathrooms, there was very little outdoor seating which would have been a great way to escape the diesel fumes from the countless semi-trucks on the boat. Note that this is not a typical passenger ferry! Another reviewer referred to it as a low end carnival cruise line. I don't think it comes anywhere near this generous description. The ship's primary purpose is to transport vehicles, not people...which is very apparent.
All in all the trip took 20 hours (including our wasted time in the ferry terminal). Good luck fellow travelers. Oh, and you might want to bring your own PFD. All of the life jacket bins we saw were completely empty.
